Belgium might be breaking apart soon. And the reason why is more surprising than usual: its own Prime Minister wants it to happen. Bart de Wever is the new Belgian PM - a staunch Flemish nationalist he has stated that he would "rather die as a southern Dutch man than a Belgian". While he has toned down the rhetoric of potential reunification with the Netherlands after taking office (due to his obligation to represent the Wallonian citizens of the South too) he maintains that the 18th century separation of Belgium from a Greater United Kingdom of the Netherlands was a mistake; and that a return of the "Benelux" concept could create a new "beating heart of Europe".
