The creative process isn't always clean, and it isn't always clear, and putting in the work is the only real "secret". In this video we give you a raw session of three game designers (us) designing a tabletop RPG game in real-time.
We are working on the 5 Minute RPG, a future release for independent tabletop game publisher Absolute Tabletop (release date to be determined, hopefully in 2021). In this video, I (Tim) have some design questions that I throw to Jeff and James and we talk them out.
The video is rich with design philosophy, cordial disagreements, miscommunications, triumphs and game design. We purposefully tried to keep it all in there, the good, the bad, and the ugly so you can see how the sausage is really made.
We hope this helps all of you who are getting into game design. We're appreciative of the feedback our game design videos have been getting (most recently 'Imagine it Better', or last video). We've discovered that discussing design is one of our favorite things to do, and based on the feedback we're even considering a game-design-centric Patreon for those who would want more on this topic, and potentially drilled down help. The details are still totally undefined, but we're excited at the prospect, and wanted to share with all of you.
