Your curls can lose structure before you even apply your gel.
Every step before gel adds conditioning to your routine:
shampoo → conditioner → prep
Too much conditioning and your gel can’t hold shape
Too little and your hair feels dry and brittle
That’s routine imbalance.
Here’s the structure I teach in my Beginner Curl Series:
1. Shampoo: cleanse well enough that your hair doesn’t feel heavy or slippery afterward
2. Conditioner: adjust lightweight or richer based on your hair
3. Prep: where most routines accidentally add too much conditioning
4. Gel: if curls frizz or fall after breaking the cast, you likely need stronger hold
Once you start thinking in terms of total conditioning across your routine instead of individual products, everything changes.
