As all important railway lines meet in Belgrade, the Belgrade Railway Junction (BRJ) is the most important, complex and largest railway intersection on the Serbian railway network. The BRJ consist of 17 stations, 11 intersections, 10 rail tunnels and 4 large railway bridges over the rivers.
Considering that the construction of the BRJ has never been fully completed as it planned, the lines for the passenger and freight traffic are not fully separated in the central city area. Freight trains run on almost all lines of the BRJ. As the construction of a new railway line between Belgrade and Novi Sad is currently underway, freight trains on the most important railway transit route between the south and the north of the country had to change their route. These changes force much of the freight rail transport towards the Pancevo Railway Junction. Due to these changes, it is interesting to take a freight train ride through the central part of the city.
This video shows the cab ride from Resnik (the BRJ southernmost station), to Pancevo main station (the first and main station of the Pancevo Railway Junction). So, this is the ride from suburban part of the city, through and under the urban parts and again towards the suburban of Belgrade. The ride is 35km long and takes place through the two longest rail tunnels of the BRJ. These are the tunnel "Vračar" (3510m long) and tunnel "Dedinje" (3086m long). Passing through these tunnels may be the most interesting part of the video. Particularly interesting is the tunnel Dedinje as well as passing through the underground passenger station Vukov spomenik, below one of the central parts of the Belgrade. The ride also takes place through several other tunnels, due to the complexity of the connections at this railway junction. Also, there is a crossing of the Danube river (old steel railroad bridge "Pančevački most") and crossing the Tamish river, near Pančevo.
For this train ride it is used an intermodal freight train and all relevant details about the train, the locomotive, the route and during the ride, are shown in the video.

Railway line Budapet - Gyor - Hegzeshalom is one of the most important railway lines ih Hungary. In recent years, a lot has invested in rail infrastructure at this line. Today this is line with increased trains speed up to 160 km/h. On several sections trains can run at this speed. Station Nagyszentjanos is located at 160km/h section between Komarom and Gyor. This section of the railway line is extremely busy with many different types of trains.
Most of the freight trains between Middle and East Europe are passing here. In addition to various types of freight trains this line is used by Railjet trains between Budapest and Viena, Raaberbahn, GYSEV IC trains, passenger trains between Budapest and Gyor and many other train types.

This video shows a lot of fast trains in the Czech Republic, mostly in tunnels. The recordings were made at the tunnel section of the railway line between Prague and Ostrava, actually between Česká Třebová and Zábřeh na Moravě. The maximum allowed speed of trains on this section is 160km/h.
There are several railway tunnels between stations Tatenice, Hoštejn and Lupěné. Because there are a lot of interesting railway tunnels, many of trains spotted in tunnels or in front of them. Railway station Tatenice is a well-known place for shooting and taking videos of trains, where many railfan enthusiasts come. This station place is interesting because it has platforms between two railway tunnels. The whole mentioned railway section is located in the very picturesque and beautiful nature of the middle - eastern part of Czech Republic.
Large number of passenger and freight trains pass through that route. These are very diverse types of passenger and freight trains. The video shows a large number of different state and private rail operators like České dráhy, ČD Cargo, RegioJet, Veolia... There are many different locomotives, electric and diesel multiple units, like different types of Škoda locomotives, Siemens locomotives, Pendolino trains...

Railway line Sarajevo - Čapljina - Port of Ploče (Adriatic Sea) has one of its significant landmarks - great railway mountain pass Bradina. On its way from the inland of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Southeastern Europe, towards the Adriatic Sea, this railway line passes through some of the most beautiful natural areas in the Balkans. South of Sarajevo, and between Sarajevo and Konjic, there is a large mountain massif, which consists of the Bjelašnica and Prenj mountains slopes. In that place, the railway line overcomes a large height difference in a short distance. It climbs from the north side, overcoming deep valleys with very high and grandiose concrete bridges and viaducts. The most prominent are the 5 large, connected viaducts above the village of Tarčin. After the highest point at Bradina station, the steep and long railway descent towards the Neretva river valley begins. On that southern side, above the town of Konjic and between the village of Ovčari and railway station Grad, several long railway serpentines were built, in order to overcome the height difference of about 400 m. Along that way, numerous tunnels, bridges, viaducts, deep cuts and notches were built in the rocks of the steep mountain slopes.
There are few passenger and mostly freight trains, which mainly supply heavy industry inland, for the needs of the big and dirty industries of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Of the passenger trains, there are only 2 pairs of daily Talgo fast trains between Sarajevo, Mostar and Čapljina. Train traction is performed by old, electric ASEA locomotives, ŽFBH 441 series (ŽFBH - Željeznice federacije Bosne i Hercegovine - Railways of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina). As the gradient, or track slope is over 23 ‰ in some places, heavy freight trains are generally consist of 11 to 13 loaded wagons, for trains that go uphill. Such trains are usualy hauled by two locomotives traction. Often one locomotive is at the front of the train and the other is banker locomotive at the back, pushing the train. Such freight trains usually transport various coal ores and weigh around 700 t.
In addition to several filmed freight trains, a special passenger train was also shown. It is a Golden Eagle Danube Express luxury train, chartered agency train that traveled on its multi-day journey from Paris across the Balkan Peninsula to Istanbul and Bucharest. On that long journey, the train made a detour from the main route for two days, so that tourists could ride this railway line and visit Sarajevo and Mostar. It consisted of 14 special luxury passenger cars, which were pulled by two locomotives over this mountain pass.
The most outstanding and interesting shots were taken around the Ovčari railway station, on the viaducts and at the tunnel portals above it. In order to create most of the video material, it was necessary to do a lot of hiking and walking in the surrounding terrain, which is mostly very difficult to access. Being there live, waiting for the trains and carefully and precisely choosing the video shots, is something that cannot be described in words. The sounds made by the trains winding small radius track curves through this mountain massif is something that needs to be experienced live and I hope the video managed to capture and transfer even a small part of it to the screen and speakers. Also, a particularly powerful sound is produced by the locomotives as they pull heavy trains up the steep track, as well as the train horn sounds, which echoes and can be heard from faraway places.
It took 5 years of recording to collect enough material for this trains compilation. The recording was done in all seasons. In winter, the dense pine forest on the northern side was covered with white traces of snow, while during the summer, on the southern side, a particularly loud sound of crickets appeared, which shows how hot it was. Perhaps the most beautiful and most represented during this video is the late autumn period. The mix of colors of coniferous and deciduous forest is something really vivid and calming to watch. The appearance of fog in the valley during autumn and the view of it deep under the railway line or along the railway line is something special. The lower levels of the line are covered in fog, the middle level is on the edge of the fog, and the upper part, high up in the mountain is in the sun and with an unreal view of that fog below. In a few parts, this video shows the appearance of the train deep below the fog, that is only audible and then the train slowly climbs and breaks through the fog, until it climbs high enough to emerge from the fog behind and continue its journey high above the misty mountain ridges and valleys. There are also special landscape views that make it fulfilled this railway line scenic nature and mountains surroundings.")

Railways in the northeast of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the area of Tuzla Canton, connect the largest industrial centers of heavy and dirty industry of Bosnia. Those lines are not electrified and connect coal mines with thermal power plants, industry for the production of coke coal, alumina, salt and sugar. Rail traffic in that region relied on steam locomotive traction. Today, steam locomotives mostly have replaced by large and powerful diesel locomotives manufactured by the American General Motors. Those locomotives are the backbone of freight traffic on non-electrified railways in Bosnia. These are locomotives of the EMD G16 series (Electro-Motive Division locomotives), in these areas known as the 661 series, under the nicknames Kennedy or Džems.
Heavy freight trains video compilation shows freight trains of Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine), Railways of Republika Srpska (Željeznice Republike Srpske) and freight wagons from abroad, such as Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary... Along with the video scenes of all trains, the basic data about those trains, such as train length, train mass, type of goods being transported and the trains transport route, are also written. There are mainly trains for the transportation of various types of coal, but there is also something really rare and exotic, such as the transportation of soda to Ukraine.
The largest generator of trains in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the complex of heavy and dirty industries in Lukavac. Some of the most important industries which use rail transport are:
Industry for coce coal production (Global Ispat Koksna Industrija doo (GIKIL, Koksara Lukavac)),
Sisecam Soda Lukavac,
Banovići, Šikulje and Dubrave coal mines (rudnik Banovići, rudnik Šikulje, rudnik Dubrave),
Thermal power plant Tuzla (Termoelektrana Tuzla),
Sugar refinery in Brčko (BIMAL Grupa) and
Alumina Zvornik in Karakaj, near Zvornik.
Coal for making coke coal is transported by trains from the Port of Ploče on the Adriatic Sea. Coke coal is exported by trains most often to the ironworks in Radinac, Serbia (HBIS Srbija, Železara Smederevo). Raw, crude sugar is brought from Brazil by ships to the Port of Ploče and then by trains to the sugar refinery in Brčko...
Lukavac train station is the main hub for all these heavy freight trains transports. Bosanska Poljana railway station is the main junction of the two main railway lines in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is intersect of Brčko - Banovići and Doboj - Tuzla lines. Another significant freight railway line, Živinice - Zvornik Novi, is separated a little further, at Živinice. Trains on all these lines are shown in this video.
In that part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is no passenger rail traffic anymore. The passenger train at the beginning of this video is a special passenger train on the occasion for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Brcko - Banovići railway line. Right after that passenger train, only freight trains are shown.
As the railway traffic in these parts of the Balkans is very neglected and on some lines and tracks only one or two trains a day come across, the collection of material for the creation of this video lasted eight years. The recording period was from 2016 to 2023, during various seasons, mostly during the winter or late fall period.
It was a real pleasure and enjoyment recording to these powerful diesel locomotives, watching and listening to them live, while releasing a large amount of smoke, pulling heavy freight trains. I hope that at least a part of that feeling can be conveyed through the video.")
