4 Tips to shooting in a small 2 bedroom apartment in my hometown of Quebec
As an amateur photographer we have to make due with whatever we have as a photographic space. When dealing with the reality of winter (Not being able to shoot outside) and wanting to shoot beauty portraits, we sometimes have to go inside to do a shoot. Inside on a limited budget means that you have to sometimes squeeze yourself in small 4 1/2 apartments and make due. The good news is that it is indeed possible to do a great job even though your space is minimal. Here are a couple of tips and tricks I use to maximize the somewhat limited fact of shooting in a small apartment to get the shot.
So here are the most essential tips for shooting in a small apartment
Tip #1
For great lighting, shoot away from the window. If background is busy like this one, use a wide open aperture to isolate the subject
Tip #2
Always fun to do the backlighting thing where the subject sits in the window sill and let the sun create a silhouette
Tip #3
Always find the kitchen. In general, it has a great deal of nice natural light pouring in. You can get lucky and get golden hour through the window.
Tip #4
Although a personal tip, Edit with a nice glass of wine
Details about the shoot
This is the second part of a shoot I started the night before doing circus photos with model Alexanne Mezzorana. I will look at and analyse the photos from that shoot in another YouTube video later where I will give tips on how to shoot circus aerials. We had shot the night before in a big circus space but I had not gotten the best photos for portraits so I decided to shoot the next day.
Equipment used
I shot with the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T20 using only two Fujinon lenses (The Fujinon 35mm f/2 and the 56mm f/1.2) I used natural light from windows and played with the position of the model relative to our lightsource the window.
