Hi all! First and foremost-- HUGE shoutout to Debra L. for supporting my channel--THANK YOU!!!
It was a bit nerve-wracking to do a commission on film! This is a 10"x20' gallery wrapped canvas, and the client asked for a deconstructed bloom in blues, white, black and gray. I used various shades of blue This Little Piggy aka TLP pigments, along with some Golden Fluid Teal, and decided the black and white part could be the cell activator colors. I feel like I am making progress with the hair dryer in blowing the paint across the canvas--there are several areas in this piece where I got the cells and lacing 6 or more inches from the center of the initial puddle. I turned the volume down in those portions of the video so you wouldn't have to hear the hair dryer drone on and on LOL.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: I will be LIVE right here on my YouTube channel on Sunday September 12th at 5:00 PM EST! Come hang out, ask questions, and boss me around!
TWO (!!) BIG! HUGE!! MASSIVE!!! Announcements are coming soon!! CANNOT WAIT TO SHARE WITH YOU!! STAY TUNED!!
I hope you enjoy my take on the blooms technique; recipe is below.
I TRY to post 2 videos regularly each week--one on Tuesday and one on Saturday. Both will air around 3:00 PM US east coast time. Occasionally you'll get a bonus video for premieres and collaborations--but Tuesdays and Saturdays are firm. xoxo --Karen
Colors/Brands/Bloom Recipe:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the canvas:
Gliddon Essentials White in SemiGloss -- 4 cup batch mixed with 1/4 cup Golden GAC800 to prevent crazing.
Pouring Medium aka PM—mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Valspar Hi-Gloss Enamel Untinted Deep Base Paint (Lowes); Varathane Triple Thick Gloss Varnish (Lowe's) ; 2.5:1 ratio paint to varnish. Mix well.
Brands/Colors mixed:
Golden Fluid Acrylics in Teal, Manganese Blue Hue
This Little Piggy pigments in Nebula, Lakeside, Sapphire
Golden Fluid Acrylics-- I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick then I'll add a teaspoon of varnish to thin.
All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it, then added into 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator (last color on your puddle before you swipe or blow it out—no PM):
Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Oxide Black and Titanium White. 3:1 ratio Floetrol to paint
