In today’s video, I’m diving into my cool colour scrap bag to begin a beautiful new mixed media collage. I’m working with handmade Kozo papers and Gelli prints in shades of blue, turquoise, and green — mixing plain pieces with richly textured patterns to build depth and interest.
Once my 16 x 20" watercolour paper is covered in layered papers, I add an image transfer of a woman’s portrait to create mystery and focus within the artwork. After adhering the collage to canvas, I pour a fluid glaze from the top edge — a transparent veil of turquoise that flows softly across the surface, uniting the collage beneath.
To finish, I add more textured papers to blend the layers seamlessly, creating a rich balance between the collage and the fluid paint.
Along the way, I’m sharing creative tips for developing your artistic voice and becoming a successful artist — insights drawn from my own journey of experimentation, persistence, and joy in the creative process.
