Welcome to our new slow stitch project for 2026 that will be running as a stitch along. Everyone is welcome to participate. We’ll be stitching a hexagon work mat for your studio or craft room desk featuring vintage embroideries and fabrics. I’ll be sharing vintage embroidery transfer designs from my collection and lots of inspiration to include in your own work mat.
The project can be tailored and adapted to the supplies and time you have on hand, and what you want to create with the hexagons. There is no cost to participate.
In this video I will talk about useful slow stitching supplies and tools and also provide a tutorial to do a number of hand stitches including French knots, buttonhole wheel, back stitch, whipped back stitch and straight stitch. These stitches are combined in a beautiful vintage flower design.

The heat erase markers I use are pilot Frixion.
The inkjet printable fabric I mentioned is from Matilda’s Own here in Australia.
