Part 1 of 2Mack LR Heil 5000 on Manual Yard WasteNorCal Waste Trucks2022-03-26 | Up until recently Bay View Refuse serviced Kensington a Census-designated place in Contra Costa County with quite the unique service in todays modern terms. As many city's and towns especially in California have already transitioned to carted automated or semi-auto collection for many decades, only recently due to a Senate Bill did a wonderful and efficient system meet its end. As in this video of the unlimited yard waste collection you will see very generous set outs of customer provided bins and just like my recent video of Bay Cities Refuse, the same company just servicing Sausalito, the Recycling would be picked up curbside though with non company cans and trash had the option for on-premise collection. Late January of 22' EVR-2's of all many size options made there way to each account for all three systems and will be collected curbside with the same trucks as before. Definitely saving the backs of the guys darting up stairs with a big pack can to collect trash at it seemed every other resident on some streets. I would like to make my way back now that the new system is in place to see how yard waste is being dealt with just being carted. Hope you enjoy this weird truck combo for California at least and a big thank you to the driver and helper for letting Colby and myself film for as long as we did. Colby does have a video of trash/recycle being collected here taken many years ago that I hope he uploads so you can see that but as I said, look on my channel and you can see how the on-premise/ backyard collection is done if your not familiar and are interested.Custom 1998 CCC LET Front LoaderNorCal Waste Trucks2022-03-19 | Back in 2018 I was fortunate to meet the yard manager for the Palo Alto yard while out filming. At that time I had seen this truck at the yard and wanted a closer look and that was made possible. I scheduled a time and got one of the head mechanics to show me around and run a few quick cycles of the arm. That's basically all the truck can do because its just a wash truck and has no blade. The only badging is an Amrep control box but I've seen plenty of refurbished units use that and the body was not a Amrep. So that leaves the body a mystery. PASCO way back did have some ADR (Advance Research Design) FL's, Dempster FL's, STAGG, and IFL's and my best bet apart from a complete custom truck would be a ADR though the tailgate and braces are much different. The last three photos, two being from Google street view is the old Pre WM buyout wash truck. That truck definitely made its way around from sitting at Davis St transfer to now behind a commercial building sitting next to the IFL pictured after sitting at a truck lot next to dozens of old WM trucks now all gone. To my surprise the manager knew about the truck and if this truck died plans would be to acquire that truck and put it on route but as of a year ago or more an all electric truck with a bin washing unit is allegedly has taken place of this interesting unit. So if anyone has info on this body or an assumption I'd love to hear it. WHY NOT?Monterey Disposal Autocar WXLL Bridgeport RangerNorCal Waste Trucks2022-01-31 | Here we have a Delo burning Xpeditor low level creeping through route in Monterey, CA. I was told this was the oldest resi truck on route that day so that should tell you a lot about the rest of the fleet. Finally a good time came up and here's the result. Mainly the on premise/backyard collection is what I came for but as of early November residents received Toters and that not only made residents get rid of their own supplied cans but many opted to just roll them for curbside semi-auto service. Still the big old aluminum "pack cans" are used for some stops and that's what I tried to capture. Lots of drivers and helpers can tip and dump carts but it definitely takes some skill and muscle to run around with a can full of trash and its not light to say the least... trust me. Bay Cities is one of the few if not last company that even hauls a Bertuccio bin on their trucks. I really apricate all the friendly and hard working drivers and helpers that day for letting Colby, Stevie, and I too follow them around route and get some footage and be able to document yet another city and there collection technique and methods. The pack can is definitely something that will still be used, just a bit less and hopefully I can make it down again and film some of their other trucks running around the city. But I'm glad I was able to film this and the older Autocar RL that day.Cal-Waste Recovery Maxon Legal One Front LoaderNorCal Waste Trucks2021-11-27 | So Colby, Stevie, and I made it about 5 exits down from Colby's place on the way to Waste Expo and spotted this beautiful 12 sided polygon front loader paralleling us while going down the highway. We took the first exit we could and confronted the kind driver which was more then okay with us following him around. This truck was collecting dumpsters that residents can rent out so we ended up going all over Galt that morning. This system seems to work quite well as all the neighborhoods are quite compact meaning less driving and once emptied just like G.I. Rubbish's Insta-Bins they can be stacked up and multiple taken in one trip back to the yard.
This 1997 Volvo Xpeditor WXLL has my favorite body, a Maxon Legal One. The shape of the body and tailgate make it unmistakable when seen and able to haul a larger and legal load. Wish more of these West Coast beasts where still around but I'm glad a company somewhat local to me keeps this truck around and alive. Very soon unless a hauler decides to re chassis or re power a truck, body's like this will be a thing of the past.Waste Management Diesel Mack MR Wittke FLNorCal Waste Trucks2021-07-10 | ...GreenWaste Recovery CCC Maxon MSLNorCal Waste Trucks2021-06-26 | Ever wondered what collected public litter bins in San Jose? Well this old, small, and rusted 1991 Crane Carrier works its way all over the city collecting what people have tossed in the bins. Here is part one that I put together from my first trip down to try and find this classic and interesting truck.
Working alongside a ever upgrading fleet of garbage trucks trying to keep the city clean it was interesting seeing such a classic and big thanks to the friendly driver for letting Colby and I get some clips of his truck. At the time of filming the traffic of not only cars but people made the route quite light and easy with many bins empty. Apparently a new truck will soon replace quite possibly the oldest truck in the fleet. So GreenWaste you should totally put it up for action or just sell it to me ;) "Why Not?"All Electric Garbage Truck- GreenWaste of Palo Alto BYD New Way SidewinderNorCal Waste Trucks2021-03-13 | Hey GreenWaste Recovery I heard that truck 117 is possibly being taken out of services and would just like to throw out that I got a nice parking spot for it and cash in hand. Thx
So Colby and I went out to the Bay area and one big goal of the day was to try and find a electric truck in Palo Alto. Being that I filmed the first version of GreenWaste's electric truck and learning that the second truck is now around it would be cool to see the changes in speed and equipment quality. A lot more long drive shots and take offs in this video as it was filmed in a actual neighborhood and not the tight streets of downtown. The New Way body definitely is more appropriate for the fleet as it matches other ASLs in the yard and seems to handle and age better then the Wayne.

Early January Mendocino Refuse and I took a long drive out to route in the hope we find and film and company that isn't that well known and hasn't seen the cameras yet. Well route isn't that long and what you see minus a few clips is all of it. Of course route started late that day but it gave us plenty of time to look around and explore. Participation for residential recycling is just about the size of the Ford Perkins satellite that is used too pick it all up. But anyway here is a long but short video of the Willow Creek commercial recycling route. I will have to come back and try too get more footage as other city's were on the list too try and catch that day so commercial trash was not filmed. Same truck but different commodity... The residential trash route is definitely something worth the drive back to film or the sweet bonfire that occurs after all the cardboard is piled up at the yard. On a mission to find the electric garbage truck...again I happen to roll up onto this truck after scouring route with no luck on finding it and my worst filming fear was confirmed... the truck I was after was down for mechanical problems. So sticking with the now old motto,"Why Not" I thought let me film this beautiful truck on full recycling dumpsters and the occasional cart. I would like to extend my gratitude to the driver for letting me film and Chris letting me tour the yard. Was a great experience and if your scheduled allows I would not mind touring again not only to see the new trucks you've been getting lately but when more truck are in the yard.Recologys Square Body Heil Formula 7000NorCal Waste Trucks2018-03-31 | Semi quick back story on how we found this truck. About 3 months ago Andy, Colby, and I were staking out the yard for a cool old truck to leave. Well this truck happened to suite that bill. After “engaging pursuit” we lost it by some very sad driving technics. Now seeing this truck I made it a mission to film it. So last week Colby and I went back out to North Bay and well our luck couldn't be better as the truck was running a route that day and we happen to roll up on it as it left that yard. I mean if we were 5 mins late we wouldn't have had a clue where it went and that would equal no footage *gasp*.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the driver for letting Colby and I film and the op’s manager for being so rad.

Ever since i’ve filmed the Auburn-Placer Amrep FL I really wanted to film one mounted with a Curotto Can. To my knowledge back then the only yard I knew ran a handful would be Recology Del Norte a nice 7+ hour drive from my house. Well not only did I have to only go out about 1 hour away from my place this combo includes a well worn down 1995 WhiteGMC (2006 Amrep body). Most of the Amrep FL’s which I believe are conversations where Volvo so that was a pleasant surprise. Even better the driver was pretty cool too. Sadly came a little too late to route so most of the more house populated route was done. I do hope to return soon especially when it's not as windy as you can probably tell by the trees swaying and carts releasing some recycling. Next time hopefully I can convince the driver to rev the arm a little ;)
One of the last filming trips with California Refuse TrucksBay Areas First Electric Garbage Truck - BYD Curbtender HammerPakNorCal Waste Trucks2018-01-20 | I'm in no way, shape, or form endorsed by GreenWaste of Palo Alto, Curbtender, or BYD
First off I have to say WOW! After seeing this truck in person man do I have a different view and opinion on it. This combo is fairly new so i'll quickly go over it. Here is a BYD (Build Your Dreams) ALL electric class 8 truck paired with a Curbtender (and yes it says Wayne on the hopper shield) HammerPak. To my knowledge this is the first video of a HammerPak on YT so that just shows how few of these are out on the road. Yes there are pro's and con's but damn it looks good paired with the BYD cab. Probably your first question is can it finish a whole route? well...no. From the time I found it to when it left for the transfer station it was roughly 3 hours. The driver switches trucks after about that 3 hour period and continues to finish his assigned route. Now the driver that drove out the replacement truck drives the truck and dumps. Man this truck is quite to especially when the PTO cuts out after about a minute of idling. I have to say the side PTO really reminds me of old 50’s trucks and I like it. I really hate writing descriptions so i’ll leave it at that if you have any questions comment them down bellow. This was the first day of rollout/cart takeback and what really made it weird is it was on a Saturday (due to collection being pushed forward a day in a result of Thanksgiving). The city's contract with Republic Services finally went up after years and judging by the old BFI carts I think it's safe to say someone outlasted their welcome and it was time for a new contract agreement. Most residents use their own 32gal. container to A) save money not having to rent a bin from Republic B) If you did rent a bin Republic only offered 60 and 90's for customers. That brings up my first problem I saw a decent amount of FULL 90 trash carts. Now the biggest trash cart you can get is 67 gallons and if you have extra trash you'll have to pay for extra bags. Now it's not that bad tho as food scraps are being diverted so hopefully people will use that to their advantage and landfill less.
Sadly every time I tried to find the recycling cart crew they would not be in the neighborhood (probably loading more carts at the prep site) anyway the recycling carts are just 90 split IPL’s. That's also one of my concerns. Every since 2006(ish) when AW rolled out single stream cart residents didn't have to bother with separating fiber products from metal, plastic, glass, etc. So I think it will definitely be a learning curve for the residents.
Now that ends my rant (for the single family housing side). Also I only managed one clip of the cart rollback crew but at the same time the hood’ they were in didn't have to many cool old carts so I don't think it would be to interesting. In 110 degree weather it got old quick but maybe the obvious point of the square shaped headlights reminding me of a old late 1980's 310 and actually filming a Curotto Can for the first time I just pushed on.
