The worst crosscutting mistake, besides putting your hand in the direct path of the blade, is to use your fence to make repeatable cuts. Oh, it’s tempting to do it, but don’t. Instead, make a simple flip block stop out of two pieces of scrap, a short nail, and a screw. If you can use a drill, you can make this jig…I promise it’s very easy.
The first block needs to be at least 3/4 shorter than the second. We’ll tape them together with the right corners butted up. On the left corner, we’ll drill a hole that’s the same thickness as our nail. You could add some super glue to the larger back end of the block if you want, but put the nail through both. On the back piece we’ll add the screw. You might need to twist the first block a few times to loosen it, but the jig is done.
The easiest way to use this is with double sided tape pressed between it and the fence, about 5 inches before the blade. After measuring, put it in place, line up your stock to it and flip the first block. A second way is to drill a hole in the top and use my simple u-bolt clamp.
