In Chattanooga, Tennessee, Volkswagen of America begins production of the ID4 compact SUV, the company's first electric car built in the US.

Later this year, Volkswagen plans to raise ID.4 assembly in Chattanooga to 7,000 vehicles per month, with a further increase in manufacturing anticipated through 2023. Vehicle deliveries to customers might start as soon as October 2022. The rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive ID.4 made in America will initially be offered in 82kWh battery version. In addition, a rear-wheel-drive model with a 62kWh battery and a cheaper MSRP will enter production later in 2022.
