Our southern rockhopper penguin chick is now on exhibit! 🐧🐣
After growing behind the scenes for two months, our female rockhopper penguin chick joined the rest of the penguin colony in the Aquarium last month.
This little one hatched to parents Pebble II and Fuego II on June 23, and our staff had been raising her off exhibit, teaching her to hand feed and socialize with other penguins. Now that she has grown her waterproof feathers, she's on exhibit with the other 13 rockhopper penguins!
We've hatched and raised over 185 successful penguin chicks at the Aquarium over the years, but this chick marks only our tenth southern rockhopper chick, so she's a big deal! Although she doesn't have a name yet, she will be getting both an educational name + a recognizable ID bracelet in the coming weeks.
