The 2025–2026 sea turtle cold stun season has officially come to a close!
This season ended earlier than usual after water temperatures in Cape Cod Bay dropped more rapidly and dramatically than is typical, and live turtles were no longer stranding. Although the season didn’t extend into 2026, our teams still rescued and treated 473 live sea turtles throughout November and December.
At this time, 60 turtles remain at our Sea Turtle Hospital for long-term rehabilitation. The other turtle patients have been transferred to partner facilities so they can continue receiving care while we focus on our long-term patients.
In total, our Sea Turtle Rescue team helped treat:
• 404 critically endangered Kemp’s ridley turtles
• 48 green sea turtles
• 21 loggerhead sea turtles
