Presented in 4K - For a period of time in 2018, Amtrak GE P42DC locomotives were a common sight on the Pacific Surfliner trains. Since the Siemens Charger locomotives have taken over the Surfliner, P42DC locomotives have been far and few on the Surfline. Time will tell if these units reappear in a more common manner, but their time is also counting down, with the fast arrival of the ALC-42 locomotives.
The Surfline route sure has changed a fair amount in the recent years. From only a few years ago being dominated by EMD and GE locomotives, new Siemens Charger equipment has taken over. Whether for better or for worse, variety isn't as common as it once was.
In this lookback, you'll see the various P42DC invasion on the Surfliner route between Fullerton and San Diego throughout 2018. Featured P42DC's include: AMTK 6, 39, 41, 45, 48, 87, 99, 120, 146, 154, 155, 162, 164, 165, 167, 168, 169, 179, 183, 199, 201, 202, 205, and 206.
