Running through the heart of Pennsylvania between Harrisburg and Philladelphia, Amtrak's Keystone Corridor sure is a unique electrified operation outside of the Northeast Corridor! The Keystone Corridor has been on my list for a long while, so it was great to be able to experience it earlier this year!
One of the unique things about this line, are the use of the ex-Metroliner Amtrak cabcars. These cabcars used to roam the Surfline on the San Diegan trains throughout the 1990's. This is my first time seeing these cabcars in person, so it was a real treat to get a few shots of them! Power along this line are the standard ACS-64 electric locomotives, however diesel P42DC power is used on the twice daily Pennsylvanian train. Norfolk Southern freight traffic is far and few on this line, mostly in the form of local freights. However in Middletown, NS freight trains are seen paralleling the line, as they make their way to the NS Port Road branch.
Also included at the end, are two bonus shots of the Elizabethtown Industrial Railroad. Based at the Elizabethtown Industrial Park, this operation interchanges with the NS along the Keystone Corridor. A former CP GP9u lettered for the Clinton Terminal Railroad, is used for power. This operation only runs on a rather limited basis, so it was cool to be able to stumble into it!
