Hi Guys and Gals here we have the 2015 Trackmaster 2 Talking Thomas. What a toy!
I got this (and the other 2) a couple of weeks ago off ebay from a local seller and I think these are the greatest Trackmaster 2 engines so far! They could even be the best of all the motorized battery powered Thomas toys! Why? I hear you ask, well the simple fact is that all the electronics, the speaker, the batteries and the motor are contained inside Thomas so there is no need for a permanently attached car! Fantastic!
The look is the same as the regular Thomas but it lacks the on/off switch which is now replaced by a button, the large speaker grille is visible at the rear of the engine too. The face has they eyes looking slightly off to the side which is a nice variation.
It runs on 2xAAA the same as a regular Trackmaster 2 Thomas but this one talks! It's actually quite amazing when they used to need 3 batteries in the old versions, sometimes more. It is quite fast and the sound is loud and clear.
Some drastic changes have gone on with the chassis, there are 5 screws holding it together now and the whole top half of the drive unit contains the battery compartment, motor, sound chip, speaker and on/off button assembly. They have also done something to the area where the rear coupling sits, the coupling now sits under a sort of black plastic clip which was glued down, so changing of the coupling will no longer be as easy as it used to be although I did it.
He says several phrases and a constant chuffing sound when running although the chuffing stops when he speaks or whistles, when you press the button a second time Thomas will stop with a loud brake Hissing sound (very cool).
I definitely recommend this Version of Thomas! it is only a few $ more than the normal version but is so much better!
I give 2015 Trackmaster 2 talking Thomas a 9/10
