Hi Guys and Gals as you may have guessed my recent pattern of video making its time for another Thomas and friends engine video! Today we have Trackmaster Molly.
This is an engine that featured in many episodes with allot of the appearances being Cameo's it did have a couple of episodes where it did feature in the story and had a speaking role, the first example was the one I mentioned in the video where she was made to haul empty trucks and didn't realize until the end that the railway cannot function without empty trucks! A most important job as it would turn out.
This Trackmaster version has the motor in the tender with the locomotive itself being a dummy that just rolls along, there are other versions with the motor in the locomotive and thats the RC version, why couldn't they just put the motor in the locomotive? it seems its just a rushed early design that they have stuck with to save money when they acquired the tooling and designs for the engines.
The engine has the flat type drive unit which is by far the most simple type to do a motor swap on, it is powered by a single AA battery and the whole drive unit and battery is housed in the tender as mentioned above. As I turned the locomotive on it made a horrible noise that did not go away the whole time I filmed this locomotive over several laps, this is the normal noise for a badly put together drive unit with sloppy tolerances, it does not seem to affect the performance of the locomotive which is average at best.
It is a decent looking locomotive with a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement the same as edward but this engine has a more modern design and is more efficient according to some stuff i read before filming. This locomotive did have a problem on the automatic plarail points because the little activation tab is on the tender instead of the locomotive, it also does not work on the Trackmaster Tidmouth sheds motorized turntable for the reason of being tender powered.
I will let you guys and gals give a score, I give it a 7/10 definitely needs a new version like Hank.
