The 2010 Rubonia Mardi Gras parade as seen through the lens of the La Bomba float from Sarasota, FL. This is our annual pilgrimage to Rubonia, FL (just south of Tampa/St. Pete) to take part in the Mardi Gras Parade that started back in 1980 when a small group of neighbors and friends celebrated the birthday of Ruby Begonia by taking to the streets in a sort of impromptu parade. This whimsical birthday celebration has evolved now for thirty-one years and draws revelers from all across the state of Florida. The Budweiser Clydesdale team did not make it this year, but the crowd was as big as ever. The Rubonia Mardi Gras is always a frolicking good time. On a personal note, Rubonia Mardi Gras is also a sort of 'tune up' for the La Bomba float's annual trip to the 12 Hours of Sebring which we will be embarking upon in about two weeks time.
