WeatherSTAR 4000 Phase 2: July 4, 1990 - The graphical interface debuts.
20 years ago this weekend, (July 4th, 1990), the WeatherSTAR 4000's graphical interface made its debut. This was another major leap forward for the local forecast in such a short time (the first being the addition of the radar during the 4000's beta release earlier in the year).
System drawn 8 bit color backdrops were now used on most screens (excluding the Travel Forecast which remained untouched for another few months).
As vivid as the new graphics were, the only product that received a major overhaul was the Regional Forecast, which was the first to go fully graphical. However, the system often reverted back to the former text based version whenever the national map was being tweaked or quite possibly just due to system error. The icons remained static until February of 1991.
