Fun fact - Back in January 2001 I played this primarily to put up a score on the MAME Action Replay Page, and I had a replay that made it to Stage 15 (2-7)! I was pumped, because there was only one more stage after that for the 2-loop clear. Surely if I kept grinding I could pull it off!
...but I didn't. To be fair I kinda gave up on it quickly and moved on to other games. Now it's 25 years later (oh god I'm so old now), and decided once again to pursue this goal, primarily because it was required for mastery on the RetroAchievements set. This time I learned some new things for the second loop (shoutouts to CPP-Shooter for some very useful videos), and was finally able to put together a run that reached the end credits at last.
Yes, I originally did this game 5 years ago for the 1CCBBH project ( youtube.com/watch?v=TJNiuYm2hPQ ), just counting the 1-loop as a clear and moving on, because I had a LOT of games to get through in those early streams. That other video was done with Spanky, but this time I used the Blazers. They have very good offensive power when point blanking, but the bomb can be frustrating in how sometimes it won't give you good damage on bosses if they decide to move out of the way. If they do stay in place though, you can get quick kills on things like the Stage 10 and 12 bosses, so that's cool.
I was even fortunate enough to get Soh-Takeko to show up at the very end of loop 2! Luckily I still had one life in reserve so I'm confident I would have killed the saucer boss if it had shown up anyway.

![TG-16 RetroAchievements - Air Zonk, Darius Alpha, Burning Angels [04-09-2026 stream]
0:00 Air Zonk went from easy baby game to impossible on the highest difficulty. Maybe just as well there were no cheevos for that!
1:42:54 Darius Alpha of course is just a weird boss rush. not super enthralling but it also wasnt a retail game
2:34:57 Burning Angels was a strange one, featuring anime babes in weird cockpit seats. One lifebar for the entire game with no continues and strange powerup distribution. Got the badge there too eventually
4:14:08 also includes some more attempts on R-Type Complete CD but nothing was accomplished, feel free to skip TG-16 RetroAchievements - Air Zonk, Darius Alpha, Burning Angels [04-09-2026 stream]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/g6l0N74EYqU/mqdefault.jpg)
