1998 12 Hours of Sebring - The eventual winner of the race, a 333SP Ferrari, spins late in the race while exiting Turn 11, as seen at 9:16-9:37 in this video. Footage taken at the 1998 Sebring 12 Hour Endurance Sports Car Race. Much of the footage was shot while riding aboard the La Bomba Race Car Float. See other YouTube videos about the making of La Bomba. The Friday night 12 Hours of Sebring pre-race dinner aboard the float was certainly a memorable one. 1998 was one of the few years at the 12 Hours of Sebring that we had both the old Cadillac La Bomba Land Yacht Sled and the new King Size La Bomba Race Car float at the 12 Hours of Sebring at the same time. We finally wore out the old Cadillac and it had to be sent out to pasture. During the night racing section of the 12 Hours of Sebring race, the eventual winning Ferrari had a pretty dramatic spin in Turn 11, right in front of our camp. The Ferrari V12's had the most glorious song as they screamed by at full throttle. If it looks like everyone at the 12 Hours of Sebring is having a great time, that would be correct! We were blasting disco music from the cheezy & loud La Bomba PA system and everywhere we went around the track, at the 12 Hours of Sebring, people were grooving and dancing and cheering us on as we drove by. As you can see in this 12 Hours of Sebring video, it rained a bunch on Thursday turning the Green Park into a marsh like area. In past years, before we were properly supervised, these muddy areas became massive mud bogging pits that would swallow up cars much to the crowds delight. The road leading to the inside of the hairpin turn where the legendary 'sippi-hole' used to be is now fortified with concrete rubble under the surface to keep us in check. A YouTube disclaimer: The young lady in the back of the pickup truck who momentarily liberates herself from the bondage of her bathing suit top was discretely wearing pasties so that nothing of impropriety would be shown in public. Whew! Thank goodness for that, so I didn't have to edit out that section. More Later.
