Statement On Population Stabilization
Humankind has many challenges: to obtain a lasting peace between nations; to preserve the quality of the environment; to conserve natural resources at a sustainable level; to advance the economic and social progress of the less developed nations; to assure basic human rights and at the same time accept responsibility for the planet Earth and future generations of children; and to stabilize population growth.
Degradation of the world's environment, income inequality, and the potential for conflict exist today because of rapid population growth, among other factors. If this unprecedented population growth continues, future generations of children will not have adequate food, housing, health services, education, earth resources, and employment opportunities.
We believe that the time has come now to recognize the worldwide necessity to achieve population stabilization and for each country to adopt the necessary policies and programs to do so, consistent with its own culture and aspirations. To enhance the integrity of the individual and the quality of life for all, we believe that all nations should participate in setting goals and programs for population stabilization. Measures for this purpose should be voluntary and should maintain individual human rights and beliefs.
We urge national leaders to take an active personal role in promoting effective policies and programs. Emphasis should be given to improving the status of women, respecting human rights and beliefs, and achieving the active participation of women in formulating policies and programs. Attention should be given to realistic goals and timetables and developing appropriate economic and social policies.
Recognizing that early population stabilization is in the interest of all nations, we earnestly hope that leaders around the world will share our views and join with us in this great undertaking for the well-being and happiness of people everywhere.

That January 6, 1994 smash of a baton on Nancy Kerrigans knee kept her out of the National Skating Championships and on the front page for months. It meant she couldnt qualify for the Winter Olympics in February. The whispers began immediately that people close to rival Tonya Harding were involved.
“I cant believe it. I mean why does someone want to discredit me? I just dont understand.”
Were you shocked when you heard some of these things?
“Its ludicrous. Its totally ludicrous.”
But it wasnt. Her husband Jeff Gillooly and bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt were involved, and she knew it. She admitted it just days later.
“I had no prior knowledge of the planned assault on Nancy Kerrigan I am responsible, however, for failing to report things I learned about the assault when I returned home from Nationals.”
Gone with Hardings Olympic dream: her marriage, her membership in the U.S. Skating Association, and a $100,000 fine imposed for the part she played in hindering the investigation of the attack.
Her former husband, Jeff Gillooly, was given two years in jail. 18-month sentences were handed to Tanyas bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt, hit man Shane Stant, and the getaway car driver, Derrick Smith.
Shawn Eckhardt changed his name to Brian Sean Griffth. He died in 2007 at age 40 of natural causes.

For Prince Charles, the year gets off with a bang Down Under as an assailant firing a starters pistol merely startles the heir to the British throne. Meanwhile his estranged wife Diana is fending off her own assailants who are wielding cameras. In july Charles admits
to adultery in an extraordinary televised interview. Surprisingly he earns points for candor.
I thought he came over very very well and it was a man of substance.

In October the release of the kiss-and-tell book ‘A Princess in Love’ details Dianas own alleged infidelities with Army Major James Hewitt.

At years end there
are rumors of an impending divorce and speculation that the son may finally be setting on the British monarchy.
