Dutch is a 1991 American road comedy-drama film directed by Peter Faiman and written by John Hughes.
The film stars Ed O'Neill and Ethan Embry, co-starring JoBeth Williams, Christopher McDonald, Ari Meyers, and E. G. Daily. The original music score was composed by Alan Silvestri.
The film was released on July 19, 1991 and was poorly received critically. It has gained a slight cult following due to the popularity of Ed O'Neill.
Plot:
To get to know his girlfriend's son, Dutch Dooley volunteers to pick Doyle Standis up from his prep school to spend Thanksgiving together. Dutch learns from the start that Doyle is much like his father: snobbish, selfish and elitist.

The film takes place in the same universe as Career Opportunities (1991), Curly Sue (1991), and Home Alone (1990), all written by John Hughes.
John Candy was the first choice to play Dutch Dooley. Tim Allen,Mel Gibson,Tom Hanks, Jim Belushi, Robin Williams, John Goodman and Bill Murray were also considered.
The film was mentioned in passing in an episode of Married... with Children during an in-flight to London, as a joke to the film's failure. The film was also shown in where main characters, Ed O'Neill and Katey Sagal were in a video store and looked briefly at a rack that showed a poster of the film with a sign over O'Neill's face that said "Free Video".
O'Neill and Embry would later reunite as Joe Friday and Frank Smith in the 2003 version of the television series Dragnet.
At one time in the movie, a billboard is shown, showing that Dutch is actually the owner of a very successful trucking company.
The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray and are both currently out of print so used copies sell for about $35.
