Here we have a 1980 Gottlieb Amazing Spider-Man pinball machine in action.
This was Gottlieb's first machine using the infamous System 80 hardware.
The first thing you'll notice when playing this game is that it's BIG. It's a wide machine with plenty of real estate. The right bank of drops are fun to shoot at from the left flipper and the spinner shot from the right flippers is surprisingly satisfying when the flippers are strong. There's lots to aim for all over the playfield and the game can play pretty quickly in spite of the massive area it has to travel over.
Sound is pretty ho-hum, but what it lacks in sound it makes up for with great artwork.
Honestly, this is a fairly average game that would be nothing without the theme, but it's far from bad. When looked at in contrast with what Bally, Williams and Stern (!) were doing at the time, Spider-Man is just "okay". Keep in mind, of course that Stern and Williams released some unbelievably memorable games in 1980. Gottlieb - not so much.
