Hello pinball people! Today for your viewing pleasure we have a rarely-seen 1976 Zaccaria Moon Flight pinball machine in action.
Zaccaria was an Italian manufacturer and many of their games were imported into North America to compete with the big names. Zaccaria and the other Euro pinball makers used some sort of polyurethane clearcoat on their playfields and the result is that they're usually in absolutely stunning condition and show very little (if any) wear. The colours pop on this beauty, which is often the case on Zaccaria machines, even after 45 years! Bally, Stern, Williams and Gottlieb could have learned a thing or two about keeping their games looking great from these guys! Or, perhaps they liked the built-in obsolescence?
This machine has some interesting rules. Hitting the "Target Advance Module" advances the satellite inserts in the centre of the playfield the corresponding number of spaces, which adds a letter to "ORBIT" with each completion. Spelling ORBIT (or ORBI, depending on the operator's preferred settings) lights the target specials. Advancing the bonus to full lights the upper right lane rollover for extra ball. Completing all four rollovers at the top four lanes leaves one rollover lit for extra ball as well. This machine was available in both replay and add-a-ball versions. Interestingly, the replay versions had the labels for converting to add-a-ball in the head but the actual connectors required to switch it between novelty and add-a-ball are missing completely.
This game doesn't look like it would have much to shoot for, but it's actually fairly fun. Making the shots to the top is challenging and satisfying. Great artwork by Lorenzo Rimondini.

Also, trying something with this video and added the score angle due to popular demand. It gets out-of-sync towards the end. Will try to improve upon that as we move forward.
