Here is a 1959 Gottlieb Universe pinball machine in action. This machine was brought to me by a customer who got it from a neighbour, non-working, nearly 30 years ago. He had never played it (ever) and asked me to make it work. So make it work I did!
I wasn't expecting much from this game, but it took me by surprise. This game is really neat! A nudger's dream! Hit all 8 rollovers to light the gobble hole for special. It's *not easy* and results in lots of "just one more time" games.
High tapping is a must to get the ball to the top of the playfield with the lower flippers. Hitting the two targets on either side of the upper playfield is satisfying and nudging to get those numbers, both at the top and at the bottom of the playfield, is great fun. Don't tilt!
The backbox animation is great with the rockets circling the earth to make trips to the moon. Replays are awarded for trips and for points (and for specials, of course).
This game was designed by Wayne Neyens with (fantastic) artwork by Roy Parker (the classic Gottlieb team).
