This episode features the installation and first firing of the 482 cubic inch big block Olds that has been in the works for over a year and a half. You’ll first get a good description of the components on the build, which is basically a 455 block bored 0.125” over, partially filled with block filler & has a steel 4 bolt main conversion kit on mains 2-4, a 425 steel crank offset ground to 4.250” stroke with big block Chevy 2.200” rod journals, K1 BBC 7.100” long steel rods, custom Diamond pistons, CNC ported Speedmaster aluminum heads, and a hydraulic roller camshaft. You’ll see the engine run on a dynamometer, but unfortunately there was a problem with the dyno, and we were not able to do any full throttle pulls to measure torque or horsepower.

At 9:08, You’ll see me remove the old engine, modify the G-body alternator to power steering pump bracket to fit the 455 block, and the G-body AC bracket, then install the new engine. The oil system has an external oil cooler with a remote oil filter mount + oil thermostat from Improved Racing Products, and is plumbed with -12AN lines. I modified one tube on the American Racking 2” primary to 3-1/2” collector stainless steel headers to clear the top oil fitting going into the block.

Lastly, you’ll see us start the engine in the car, and that’s where it goes south.
