On November 1st, 1954, at 6:30 AM, Rosa Lotti Dainelli, a forty-year-old farmer, married and mother of four, left her home early on All Saints' Day (it was 6:30) to attend Mass at the church in Cennina. She carried a bouquet of flowers she intended to offer to the Virgin Mary, holding her new shoes and black stockings in her hand to avoid dirtying or damaging them as she walked along the rural path to Cennina.

Upon reaching a small clearing, she noticed a dark, pointed object about 20 meters ahead, protruding from the bushes. As she approached, she realized it was a large, spindle-shaped object, wide in the middle and pointed at both ends, positioned vertically at the edge of the clearing near a tall cypress tree, with one tip inserted into the ground.

The object was about two meters tall and one meter and twenty centimeters wide in the center, matte brown in color. In the middle, there were two round windows, opposite each other, and between them, on the lower "cone," a closed "glass" door.

Suddenly, two beings emerged from the bushes, cutting off her path. They were very small, about the height of four- or five-year-old children (around one meter), but perfectly proportioned and otherwise human-like. They wore tight-fitting gray suits that covered their entire bodies, including their legs and feet.

They had short capes over their shoulders and high-collared jackets with small shiny buttons on their chests. On their heads, they wore what appeared to be leather helmets that also covered their ears with small discs. One of the beings began speaking in an unknown language, occasionally addressing the other.

Then, smiling, he gently took the bouquet of flowers and one of her stockings from her hand. After examining the flowers, he walked toward the spindle-shaped object. Lotti protested, and the being returned part of the flowers but not the stocking. Then, by placing his hand on the door, he opened it outward.

Since she was less than two meters away from the spindle, she could see inside, where she noticed two small round, flat seats without backrests, facing the two side windows. After throwing the flowers and the stocking inside, the being took out a dark brown cylindrical "roll" with rounded ends, smooth and uniform in texture. He pointed it lengthwise toward the woman, alternating his gaze between the object and her, giving the impression that he was taking pictures.

At that moment, the woman became frightened, fearing she might be killed. She quickly left the clearing. The beings did not attempt to follow her, but they seemed to offer her the object as if giving her a gift. Shortly after, the vegetation obscured the scene from her view.

The only trace left behind was a hole in the ground, presumably where the object had been inserted, confirmed by all those who, upon hearing the news, went to see it (including the woman's husband). Rosa Lotti was found to be a respectable person, serious, and sound in both body and mind.

Indirect confirmation of the case seems to come from two local children, Ampelio and Marcello Torzini, aged six and nine.
In a school essay written a few days later, Ampelio recounted that on the morning of November 1st, while he and his brother were in the area herding pigs, they heard some talking and saw Rosa talking with the "little men" in the clearing.

The older brother ran to inform their father, but by the time he arrived, the clearing was empty. However, this testimony could be the product of the children's imagination, possibly inspired by the illustration Walter Molino dedicated to the case on the cover of "La Domenica del Corriere." Nonetheless, the two boys were not very talkative, suggesting that their parents had forbidden them from speaking about the incident. Investigations were also conducted by the Carabinieri.
