A Janeite Sews | 18th century hair is a lot of work so I made a wig to slap on the day of the ball! @AJaneiteSews | Uploaded September 2023 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
I think I have my hair sorted for the 18th century ball in Saint Louis in October! I started with a whole lace synthetic wig, put curls (perm rods) and pin curls (hair pins) in it for the tête de mouton hairstyle, like the coiffure francaise in the @americanduchess guide to beauty.
Next I boiled the curled parts (well, poured boiling water on them and let them steep for two minutes).
I let the wig dry completely before removing the rods and pins.
The i pomaded and powdered using @lbcchistorical products and teased before wrapping the buckles around a large knitting needle and securing with hairpins.
I teased the heck out of the front for that sheep hair look lol
I’m sure I’ll need to powder again on the day of the ball, and I might make more buckle curls to attach! I also need to find or make some flowers.
