High atop a remote, unnamed mountain ridge, I stumbled upon something the forest had tried its best to reclaim: the crumbling stone foundations of a 100-year-old homestead. Walking through the skeletal remains of a life lived a century ago is always haunting, but it was what I found after the hike that changed everything.
When I returned home and pulled up Google Earth to map exactly where I had been, I noticed a strange anomaly just a few hundred yards from the ruins—something invisible from the ground, but crystal clear from space. This discovery led me down a rabbit hole of forgotten maps, local legends, and a mystery that has been sitting in plain sight for decades.
In today’s adventure, we’re pushing through dense brush and steep terrain to explore the ruins of a pioneer-era home. Who lived up here? Why did they choose a location so isolated and difficult to reach? And most importantly, what is the significance of the secondary site I discovered on satellite imagery?
Join me as we piece together the history of this forgotten mountain home and uncover a secret that the wilderness almost kept forever.
