Giant theropod dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex and Spinosaurus have always captivated the imagination of paleontologists and the public. A new study on dinosaur size, Larramendi et al (2020), indicates that previous size estimates of extinct animals, including theropod dinosaurs, may have been too low due to errors in the measurement of specific gravity. This video explains the meaning of specific gravity, how it affects dinosaur size, and if a 10 ton theropod is physically possible. Spinosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, and other megatheropods like Carcharodontosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Tyrannotitan, Deinocheirus, and Mapusaurus are all bigger than previously thought!
