PEN America, a literacy and advocacy organization based in the US, released their annual report for the 2023-2024 school year, and they found that 10% of the banned and challenged books in the US (overwhelmingly in public and school libraries) feature a character with a disability. Let's talk about why this is a problem, why this impacts more than just the disability community, and what we can do about it.
