It was cut from the movie and not included on the original album. It is now available on the How To Train Your Dragon 2 deluxe album from 5 Cat Studios.
This track sets the tone for the scene and reprises familiar music from the series, but this would have made six-and-a-half minutes of wall-to-wall music. There needed to be a breather right here.
I carefully synched Dragon's Lair with the scene so it overlaps Toothless Lost/Hiccup and Toothless Attacked, and I mixed it in with the film audio so it sounds like it would have if it stayed in the final cut. SaltyGamer777 helped me to place the music in the right spot.

I realize that Simba from the Lion King “just can’t wait to be king” and Hiccup doesn’t want to be chief, so technically HTTYD is more like Monty Python and the Holy Grail than the Lion King.

This track also uses the Fate Theme (basically Hiccup's theme) and one of the Viking themes when Hiccup and Toothless take off.

(New HTTYD Series)Film Score and More2021-10-19 | Dreamworks is continuing the How To Train Your Dragon franchise now that Dragons: The Nine Realms, a new HTTYD series, is streaming on Peacock and Hulu in December. What are the nine realms, how does this tie in with mythology and HTTYD?
The Dragons: The Nine Realms trailer didn't give much information about the new Dreamworks series, but we know it's set 1300 years after the events of the previous HTTYD movies and shows. This creates a bit of am issue in the HTTYD timeline, which I explain in the video.

I replaced Michael Giacchino's Kronos Unveiled with Anthropodie by Christophe Beck because it suits the tone and gradually escalates. Both the Ant-Man scores and the Incredibles score have a similar style, which makes this fit even better.

It was fun to discuss the two very different flying themes, and I may be a guest on future episodes! I’ve also got a re-score coming soon that I’m very excited about!
Reddit: reddit.com/user/FilmScoreMoreYTThe Original Temp Track of Forbidden Friendship: Odins Raven Magic (Jónsi and Sigur Rós)Film Score and More2021-09-12 | My video essay on the cultural influences on John Powell's HTTYD scores showed how the Sigur Rós and Jónsi piece “Odin’s Raven Magic” influenced the creation of Forbidden Friendship. It was used as the temp track because director Dean DeBlois is a friend of Jónsi. The track almost played in the Forbidden Friendship scene, but John Powell was inspired by it and based Forbidden Friendship off Odin’s Raven Magic instead.
So, this is the Forbidden Friendship temp tack placed back over the Forbidden Friendship scene from HTTYD 1.
I do not own the rights to this piece, performance, etc. All belongs to Sigur Rós and Dreamworks. No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD 1 Score: Not So Fireproof Instrumental Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2021-04-08 | This is my instrumental cover for Not So Fireproof from John Powell's HTTYD 1 score, sampled in Notion 6 and based off the sheets from the official HTTYD scorebook.
Not So Fireproof is a simple cue with a lot of personality, but I think this is probably my best mix so far.
I don't own the rights to HTTYD, Not So Fireproof, etc. All belongs to Dreamworks and the score was written by John Powell. No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD 1 Forbidden Friendship Re-Score: True Romance: Youre So Cool - Hans ZimmerFilm Score and More2021-03-07 | This is a re-score of the Forbidden Friendship scene from HTTYD 1 with Hans Zimmer's You're So Cool from True Romance. The reason I did this re-score is that both Forbidden Friendship and You're So Cool use marimbas extensively. I didn't even realize You're So Cool is in the first trailer for HTTYD 1!
Something about the marimbas makes You're So Cool fit here and match the playful spirit of Forbidden Friendship, despite the song being from a movie written by Quentin Tarantino, which I wouldn't have expected.
I do not own the rights to HTTYD 1, Forbidden Friendship, You're So Cool, True Romance, Hans Zimmer, etc. All belongs to Dreamworks, Warner Bros, etc. No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD 2 - Where No One Goes: Test Drive Re-Score - John PowellFilm Score and More2021-02-15 | This flying scene from the HTTYD 2 opening is unusual in the series for featuring a song, Where No One Goes by Jónsi and Sigur Rós. It contain's some of John Powell's score in parts, mainly as the pulse, but it is a lyrical song.
I've replaced Where No One Goes with Test Drive and Coming Back Around to get the full effect of the orchestra and John Powell's score.

No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD 2 For the Dancing and the Dreaming (and the Dies Irae) - John Powell and JónsiFilm Score and More2021-01-14 | John Powell and Jónsi’s “For the Dancing and the Dreaming” from HTTYD 2 is definitely not my favorite HTTYD song, but there are some really unique aspects to it that are worth discussing - some of which I’ve only discovered very recently (it’s the Dies Irae). I’m not sure if it’s there on purpose, but it 100% has the right notes. So here's another HTTYD score analysis: For the Dancing and the Dreaming (and the Dies Irae).
I didn’t expect to cover the Dies Irae in a HTTYD score analysis, but here I am. At least I have a little something new to say about it; I haven’t found anywhere else that someone has identified it in HTTYD (or Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Chapters: Intro - 00:00 For the Dancing and the Dreaming, John Powell and Jónsi - 01:19 Battle - 03:37 Dies Irae (?) - 04:40 Stoick's Death and Funeral- -06:45 Ending/Remembrance - 09:05 Outro - 09:27
I do not own the rights to any of the clips, movies, songs, etc. All belongs to Dreamworks and For the Dancing and the Dreaming was written by John Powell and Jónsi. This theme is all over the score, but Harry in Winter is the track that really makes it soar and stand out.
I don't own the rights to this song, movie characters, etc. All belongs to Warner Bros. and Harry in Winter was composed by Patrick Doyle. No copyright infringement intended. The Call of the Wild Soundtrack: Joining the Team Piano Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-12-10 | This is my cover of Joining the Team from John Powell's Call of the Wild soundtrack. This song has several variations of some of the themes, including the sled team themes, and Buck's theme. The secondary sled team theme plays early and then on a much larger scale later on. Buck's theme is hinted at in a couple ways when he starts helping the other dogs and then played outright at 1:44.
I like how this cue starts with only folk instruments and as it grows more orchestral instruments enter. It really aids the setting and scope of the scene.
I do not own the rights to the Call of the Wild movie, soundtrack, characters, etc. John Powell wrote Joining the Team and the rest of the Call of the Wild soundtrack. All belongs to Disney, and other respective owners.Toothless Hears the Call of the Wild: Scenes Re-Scored - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-11-19 | Here's the ending of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World re-scored with John Powell's The Call of the Wild score, because they're both John Powell movies and Toothless hears the call of the wild.
Songs used: We Carry Love - 00:00 The Call of the Wild - 02:56 Buck Takes the Lead - 04:46

I do not own the rights to this movie, soundtrack, characters, etc. All belongs to Fox, Disney (?), and other respective owners. The Call of the Wild Soundtrack: Wake the Girls Piano Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-10-30 | This is my Wake the Girls piano cover, from the opening of John Powell's Call of the Wild soundtrack. John Powell is known for writing very thematic music, and I think pretty much everything in this Buck's theme. The start shows his more serious theme and at 0:34 his more lighthearted and free theme enters. This theme shows up again in several other cues, including my covers for Snowy Climb and Buck Takes the Lead. Buck's light theme starts very open and happy here becomes more disciplined over time. The heavier theme follows him in more serious moments like Train North and the ending of the movie, in the track titled: The Call of the Wild. This cue also really has the spirit of a big, rambunctious dog, especially towards the very end.
John Powell and Batu Sener have finally released their own Call of the Wild piano solos, and it seems they're also the same arrangement from the Call of the Wild piano book (which Batu Sener probably arranged). Mine is also based off the Call of the Wild piano book, but with several embellishments. In fact I had to decipher a lot of the bass notes myself.
I do not own the rights to the Call of the Wild movie, soundtrack, characters, etc. All belongs to Fox, Disney (?), and other respective owners. The Call of the Wild Soundtrack: Snowy Climb Piano Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-10-16 | This is my second piano cover of John Powell's Call of the Wild soundtrack. This track is Snowy Climb, from the snowstorm shortly after Buck joins the team, so the theme for the dog sled team is very prominent. Buck's theme also comes in toward the end of the song.
I do not own the rights to this movie, soundtrack, characters, etc. All belongs to Fox, Disney (?), and other respective owners. The Call of the Wild: Buck Takes the Lead Piano Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-10-08 | As far as I know, this is the only piano cover on YouTube of Buck Takes the Lead from John Powell's Call of the Wild score, until Powell himself and Batu Sener release their upcoming Call of the Wild piano solos.
John Powell's score for The Call of the Wild is great, and I was looking forward to it since I heard he and Chris Sanders were working together on it, with Harrison Ford starring, too! The score contains much of Powell's signature sound with a folksy, bluegrass kind of flare including many banjos, basses, accordions, etc. As the song progresses it grows in scale and the orchestra gets more involved. You can also here a bit of Test Drive from How To Train Your Dragon in here when the sled dogs get ready to take off.
I do not own the rights to this movie, soundtrack, characters, etc. All belongs to Fox, Disney (?), and other respective owners.HTTYD 1 Score: Test Drive Strings Cover - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-09-18 | This is my first cover of John Powell’s Test Drive from How To Train Your Dragon. It’s another string reduction because the strings carry so much on their own, and in this case it really sounds like flying!
Test Drive is the main standout from all the HTTYD scores, so I'm glad to finally release a cover of it.
Like my other string arrangements this was adapted from the written score and inspired by Momo Symphonia’s HTTYD piano/string covers, which helped me to realize just how powerful the strings can be on their own.
I do not own the rights to these scenes, the characters, the music, etc. All belongs to Dreamworks and Test Drive was composed by John Powell. No copyright infringement intended.Chadwick Boseman Tribute - Black Panther and Dry Your Tears, Afrika: Scenes Re-ScoredFilm Score and More2020-09-03 | This music video is a cross between scenes from Marvel’s Black Panther and John Williams’ Dry Your Tears, Afrika from the movie Amistad.
I started this project a long time ago because the song is about African children returning to the continent after hardships and still persevering, like T’Challa returning to Wakanda after the death of their king. For Amistad, John Williams adapted Dadié’s poem to music and translated the lyrics (translated below) to Mende.
I didn’t expect this video to become so timely through unfortunate circumstances, but I knew it was finally time to release it, now as a tribute. RIP Chadwick Boseman.
Original lyrics:
Dry your tears Africa! Your children come back to you in the storm and tempest unsuccessful trips. The laugh of the wave and the babble of the breeze, On gold leavening And the purple of sunsets the tops of the mountains proud And light watered savannah They come back to you in the storm and tempest unsuccessful trips.
Dry your tears, Africa having drunk In all the fountains misfortune and glory, Our senses are open the splendor of your beauty the fragrance of your forests, the enchantment of your water the clarity of your sky to caress your sun And harm of your green beaded with dew.
Dry your tears, Africa! Your children come back to you Hands full of toys And heart full of love. They return thy clothing Their dreams and hopes.
I do not own the rights to these scenes, the characters, the music, etc. All belongs to Disney/Marvel, and Dreamworks. “Dry Your Tears, Afrika” was written by Bernard Dadié, translated by Audrey Snyder, and composed by John Williams. No copyright infringement intended.Avatar: The Last Airbender - Zuko Beach Flashback/Reconciliation (Cover)Film Score and More2020-08-18 | The soundtrack of Avatar: The Last Airbender (by Jeremy Zuckerman and the Track Team) has always been terrific and distinctive. This theme from the beach on Ember Island is one of the more subtle pieces, but it’s still powerful.
Despite only appearing in book 3, this theme is so prominent then it could almost be Zuko’s leitmotif, apart from that main Fire Nation motif all over the show. It’s also called “Reconciliation,” but that is a different arrangement from a different scene in Sozin's Comet.
I used a celeste for most of it and just two violin sections with a cello section for the strings. I could be wrong, but I didn't notice any violas or basses. The percussion is a bass drum with a tam tam scrape.
I do not own the rights to this scene, the characters, the music, etc. All the music was written by Jeremy Zuckerman and the Track Team. All belongs to Nickelodeon. No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD 1 Score Unreleased Track: Did Anybody See That? (John Powell) - Piano Cover/Music VideoFilm Score and More2020-08-05 | This is a piano cover of “Did Anybody See That?,” the unreleased track from the HTTYD 1 score, composed by John Powell. It covers the end of the opening scene and covers the important moment of Toothless being shot down and ends the opening with a bang. Appropriately, the Berk theme and the Vikings’ theme are loud and strong here, both playing fortissimo multiple times.
Like I said in the video, this arrangement is based on the written score and the sound is sampled from Notion 6. I did not learn this by ear and this is not me playing.
I do not own the rights to this scene, the characters, the music, etc. All belongs to Dreamworks. No copyright infringement intended.HTTYD Score: Romantic Flight Strings Arrangement - John PowellFilm Score and More2020-08-04 | This is my third HTTYD 1 string section arrangement based off the written score; this time it’s John Powell’s Romantic Flight, a scene with almost no dialogue already and emphasis on Powell’s score.
Like the arrangement I did for This is Berk, this was inspired by Momo Symphonia’s HTTYD piano/string covers, which helped me to realize just how powerful the strings can be on their own.
