The Dubai authorities monitor online activities closely, so just Tweeting a rumour that you've heard about a local tourist spot could lead to some serious trouble.

5) Alcohol
Yes, alcohol is available in Dubai, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a free-for-all. The usual rules apply and can result in fines, imprisonment, or deportation. But remember that the legal drinking age is 21 years old, so if you're underage, you'll have to wait a few more years to party it up in Dubai.

6) Swearing or Offensive Gestures
Making offensive gestures or using profanity, especially towards government officials or police, is considered a serious offence in Dubai. So, if you're feeling angry, take a deep breath and try to keep your cool.

7) Insulting Islam

The hunt begins Aug. 5 at 8 a.m. and ends Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. Prizes include $2,500 for the most pythons captured and $1,500 for the longest snake. Last year, the first-prize winner captured 223 pythons, while the $1,500 winner bagged a snake that was more than 15 feet (4.5 meters) long. Snakes must be killed humanely.

Nauru has got it beat! and that's not the only record that Nauru holds.

It's the only Nation that doesn't have a capital city,
It's the only country that imports 100% of its food,
It's the most environmentally damaged country,
It has the highest rate of smokers,
it has the highest rate of type 2 diabetes,
It's the third smallest country on earth,
and it has one of the highest rates of drunk driving, but only has 30 kilometers of road.

but how did this country get so bad?
and why is it that we have never heard of it before?

In the early 1900's it was discovered that the island of Nauru was (almost in its entirety) phosphate land.
Phosphates were needed for fertilization and therefore a highly sort after resource.
By the 1970s, 35 million tonnes of phosphates had been removed from Nauru,
over a third of its land had been strip-mined,
and its population of around 10,000 people had become incredibly rich.

Nauru was now the second-richest country in the world!
So rich, that its people stopped working and just began spending.
They imported expensive foods, and went on extravagant holidays,
they bought sports cars, cruise ships, and hotels overseas.
They even built an airport!
with 7 aircraft!
for 10,000 people!
that's like Stanford University students having their own airport!
One police chief even imported a Lamborghini only to discover that he was too fat to fit behind the wheel!

Unfortunately, Nauru was so intent on living in the moment that they forgot to plan for the future.

By the 1990s, Nauru's phosphate reserves were almost depleted,
nearly 90% of its land mass had been destroyed,
and the country was close to bankruptcy.

Since the phosphate reserves were nearly gone, the country had no source of income and therefore had to accept Australian handouts (In exchange for retaining over 1000 asylum seekers in an immigration detention camp).

Since all of Nauru's trees, and most of its vegetation were gone, Nauru no longer had fresh water reserves and could no longer produce its own food, so they built a desalination plant to supply fresh water and imported cheap processed food from Australia

Today, Nauru has extremely high rates of alcoholism, child mortality, and poor mental health.
It has insufficient healthcare and a poor educational system
The lack of work and the diet of cheap processed foods has left over 70% of the Nauruan people with obesity, and over 40% with type 2 diabetes.

The sad irony is that the phosphates obtained from the mining that killed the country's ecosystem are used to improve the texture, taste, and sustainability of the cheap processed foods that are killing its population.

Nauru's land was pillaged by Germany, the U.K., Australia, Japan, and the Naruan themselves.
It has been a WWII military air base, an offshore tax haven, a money laundering paradise, and a refugee detainment center.

Nauru's history is a political, environmental, social, and economic disaster,
it's a testament to the evils that can arise with capitalist society and therefore, it's the western world's "Dirty Little Secret".

1. Don’t Expect to Understand English
The English that is spoken in Pakistan, may not be the English you are used to!
The school books in many Pakistani schools are often flawed and so the locals are brought up learning a strange variation of English and will probably think that YOU are the one talking funny!

2. Don’t be a Feminist!
Most locals won’t agree with any views of women empowerment and might even take offence at any equalistic views. The majority of Pakistani men believe that the place for a woman should be behind four walls.

3. Don’t Travel During Ramadan
Ramadan is the Muslim month of fasting, so you should respect this and not be seen eating of drinking in public.
But how does this affect travelling? As nobody is drinking there are often no toilet stops on public transport, sometimes for up to 8 hours!
Luckily, at night time it’s a different story...

4. Don’t Fill Up On Appetisers
When dining in a Pakistani home, they will often have many appetizers and snacks before the meal. Sometimes a great deal of dishes that might make you think that it’s the main course.
As a general rule, if there isn’t bread on the table it’s probably not the main meal.

5. No Means No.
No! Don’t assume no means no! Like in many Asian countries, In Urdu it’s polite to say no thanks, or Nahin shukriya, sometimes up to three times, when accepting something.
Of course, sometimes when you genuinely have to say no put your hand on your heart and say “Bas shukriya”.

6. Don’t Dance at a Dance Party
If some guys invite you to a dance party, it’s more than likely that all the dancing will be done be a teenage girl that they’ve hired to sit around and stare at while they all drink and smoke.

7. Don’t Wear Short Shorts
You might see locals wearing shorts, but that doesn’t mean you can! It might sound racist but some Pakistanis will stare and white skin, being flashed around, and have even been seen to crash motorbikes whilst staring.
You should try a Pakistani dress to avoid attracting the wrong kind of attention.

8. Don’t Be Surprised by Powercuts
All over Pakistan there are frequent power outs. These are highly annoying government-controlled power cuts, usually on the hour during a whole hour. In some places you might only have power for half of the day!
Probably best to pack a flashlight and find out if your hotel has a generator.

9. Don’t Shake Hands!
In Pakistan women only shake hands with other women. If you are a woman don’t shake hands with men and if you are a man don’t touch or shake hands with women.
In fact try to keep touching to a minimum.

Okay, so if you're going to Disneyland there is no way you can completely avoid the queues but you can avoid a lot of them. Be sure to use the Disney Genie Service or the Disney Genie+ service that will give you access to Lightning lanes.

2. Don't Forget To Make Dining Reservations.
If there is a particular restaurant you want to experience make sure you reserve it at least 60 days in advance. The restaurants get very busy so it's better to reserve early rather than too late.

3. Don't Miss Out On The Nighttime Fun.
With so much going on during the day, by the time the sun goes to bed you'll be looking to do the same, however, while you're asleep some of the best entertainment happens. In order to avoid missing out, try to organize at least one more relaxed day so that you have the energy to experience the nighttime fun and festivities.

4. Don't Get Hangry!
Rushing around the park, crowded rides, and an overly ambitious timetable can make your time in the park a bit stressful, add hunger into the mix and a family meltdown could easily ruin your day. Take the time to sit down, have a rest, and get something to eat, once you're all fed and rested you'll be recharged and ready to get back to the fun.

5. Don't Forget The Sunscreen.
With all the excitement it's easy to forget that Disneyland is a hot place. Make some you put on plenty of sunscreen to avoid sunburn and be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

6. Don't Camp Out for The Parades
A lot of people will camp out in order to get a good position to watch the parade or nighttime show, this is a complete waste of time! Instead, get a Disney dining package in a restaurant that will give prime positioning for parades and nighttime shows.

7. Don't Underplan.
Inside Disneyland, you will need to have a flexible timetable but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't plan. Work out roughly where you want to go and when you want to get there to minimize walk times and make sure you don't waste precious park time.

8. Don't Try To Avoid The Height Requirements.
The minimum height requirements are there because the ride's seat belts or retainment systems aren't designed to work on people who are smaller. Spiking your child's hair up or making them wear taller shoes may get them onto the ride but it won't stop them from falling out.

8 Things To AVOID in Texas!

1. Don't expect Chicken Fried Steak to actually be Chicken.
Chicken-fried steak refers to the cooking method, not the meat! It is Steak, fried using the same technique as "fried chicken". Ergo; Chicken-fried steak.
Interestingly enough Spain has a similar dish that's called "Cachopo".

2. Don't put ketchup on your burger.
There aren't many strict guidelines when it comes to burgers, but there is one hard and fast rule: ketchup is only for French fries. Mayo and mustard, however, are acceptable condiments for burgers. This is according to Barry Popik, who compiled a list of terms like "Yankee Burger," which refers to a burger topped with ketchup.

3. Don't Forget to Go Large
If you're traveling through a state that's as large as the 39th biggest country in the world, you're going to need to take a break at some point. The Buc-ee's convenience store in New Braunfels is the largest in the world, with a massive 66,335 square feet of space. As an added bonus, it also has the longest car wash in the world, so you can give your vehicle a thorough cleaning whilst you pick up some snacks.
Of course, Texas is also home to the World's largest Belt Buckle and Cowboy boot.

4. Don't Confuse Coke with Coca-cola.
It doesn't matter if it's a Dr Pepper, 7-Up, some fancy schmancy soda you bought from Central Market, or a can of Grape Crush - it's all just a coke to a Texan. So, if someone offers you a coke down in Texas, the correct response is, "Sure thing! What kind of coke do you have on hand?" Not, "Nah, I think I'll pass on the coke and go for a Diet Sprite instead." Just take a look at this map of the different names people use for soft drinks by county, and you'll see what I mean.

5. Don't Forget To Hire A Car.
Texas is absolutely massive!
If you're trying to get from one city to another, it can take a while - we're talking hours! And unfortunately, if you're outside of a larger city, you're not going to have many public transportation options. You'll have to drive or fly. But if you do take a road trip through Texas, make sure to keep an eye on other drivers and try to avoid rush hour if you can.

6. Don't Stroke an Armadillo.
Armadillos are cute, little creatures that are known for their hard shells and their habit of rooting around for food. However, about 20% of them carry leprosy! It's believed that armadillos acquired the bacteria that causes leprosy from humans after Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, and they can transmit it to humans who come into contact with them. In fact, armadillos are responsible for about 33% of leprosy cases in the United States each year, with most of those cases occurring in Texas and Louisiana. So, while they might be cute to look at, it's best to avoid touching armadillos!

7. Don't Avoid The Bar-B-Queue!
Nobody likes waiting in line, but when it comes to barbecue joints, it's a good sign if there's a crowd waiting outside. In the larger cities, you might even have to wait up to two hours to get a table at the really popular places, but trust us - it's worth it. If there's no queue, it's usually for a good reason!

8. Don't Mess with Texas!
This phrase is often used to show pride in the state, and it's not meant to be taken literally. However, it's a good idea to respect the state and its residents. Don't point if you see someone dressed as a cowboy or mock someone's boots. Remember Texas is also an Open Carry state!

Nairobi is big on Mobile Banking and M-Pesa is king.
Basically, as you would with a pay-as-you-go phone, you top up your phone with credit and can then transfer that credit to other people or businesses using pin-protected SMS messages. In 2011, M-Pesa had 17 million users in Kenya alone, and nowadays it's used by everyone. If you don't want to be carrying around a lot of cash with you, get M-Pesa.

You used to be able to get apply for your visa once you arrived in Kenya, as of January 2021 you have to have your visa before you leave your home country. Fortunately, it can all be processed online but is does take some time so don't think you can get it done while you wait at the airport.

People in Nairobi only use "Jambo" a form of saying "Hello" with tourists. If you want to say "Hello" and gain some respect with the locals use "Habari" which is like "How are you" or "Niaje" which is Nairobi street slang for "How's it doing".
If you're the one being asked, you can answer with "Mzuri" good, "Si mbaya" not bad or "Poa" cool. Try to learn some Kiswahili before traveling to Nairobi, the locals will appreciate it and probably be more inclined to help you and less inclined to try to overcharge you.

1. Don't expect "Mexican Food"!
If you're a fan of Mexican food back home in the U.S. don't expect it to be the same in Mexico.
Mexican food in the U.S. is TexMex, a Texan/Mexican watered-down version of Mexican food made to be more favorable to the American palette.
You won't get Burritos, hard shell tacos, ground beef toppings, orange cheddar cheese, chimichangas, or a big bowl of nachos in Mexico!
Instead, you can expect Tacos, Tortas, Pozole, Tamales, and Enchiladas, with a wide range of exotic and spicey flavors, be careful with the spice though! things may be somewhat hotter than you expect.

2. Don't Bring Your Own Car.
If you have a car accident in Mexico, your American car insurance isn't valid.
If the accident is deemed to be your fault and you don't have Mexican car insurance, the police can detain you until you can prove that you can pay for the repairs.
So unless you want to buy Mexican car insurance or hire a car you're probably better off just using public transport.

3. Don't Hail a Taxi.
Not every cab in Mexico is licensed and a lot of the unlicensed cabs are involved in scams, extortion, and even kidnapping.
One of the methods is to pick up the client and instead of taking them to their destination, they take them to an ATM. They are then forced to take out money and had over their valuables and are then dropped off in some remote (and sometimes dangerous) neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.
If you need a taxi, use a "Taxi Rank" cab that you have to phone beforehand to book.

4. Don't Insult La Virgen De Guadalupe.
The Virgen of Guadalupe is Mexico's patron saint and an important religious symbol.
In 2002, Pope John Paul II declared her the patroness of the Americas, and her birthday, which is on the 12th of December is a national holiday.
Even if you are not religious, you should treat Guadalupe with respect because insulting her is like telling someone from North Carolina that Nascar is boring and America sucks.

5. Don't Be Brash With Your Cash.
It is never a good idea to go around with a huge wad of cash on you or flashing your valuables, it is always best to carry a smaller amount, or separate a larger wad and stow it in different locations.
In Mexico, it's also a good idea to be careful with your cards.
Avoid using debit cards at gas stations because of card skimming, and never give your card to a server at a restaurant, instead, make sure to pay at their card terminal.

6. Don't Expect Them to Hablar Ingles!
In general, we English speakers expect foreigners to speak our language.
If we go to Sweden, we expect them to speak English, however, the idea of a Swede coming to America and expecting us to speak Swedish seems preposterous!
In Mexico, the native tongue is Spanish, and although many people there may speak and understand a little English, it is always more respectful and better received by the locals, that the visitor should, at least attempt to speak their language.

7. Don't Wear Flip-Flops.
Flip-Flops are for the beach and shouldn't really be worn anywhere else! this is not just because of that annoying "Kerplick, Kerplock" sound they make but also because they instantly announce that you are a tourist and that they are impractical and unhygienic, especially if you are in a city.
Cities are dirty places and you tend to walk a lot more than you think when visiting one, so to avoid having blisters and skanky feet at the end of the day get yourself a pair of closed sandals or comfortable sneakers.

6 Laws That Airlines Dont Want YOU TO KNOW!

Destination Tips 2022-11-25 | Did you know that if your flight is delayed the Airline should be providing you with free food and drinks?

Or that if you cancel your ticket or miss your flight, the airline should be reimbursing you with up to 70% of your ticket price?

If not, stay tuned for more laws that airlines don't want you to know!

1. It's illegal to charge for hand luggage.
By law, hand luggage is considered "Necessary items" and not "Baggage"; therefore, an Airline cannot legally charge you for bringing it aboard.
Airlines that still charge their passengers for hand luggage do so because the money they receive from doing this greatly outweighs what they have to pay out to the very few passengers who actually claim compensation and the fines they have to pay for breaking the law in the first place.

2. Ticket Refund.
Whether you cancel your ticket in advance or just moments before your flight, (even if it's entirely your own fault) you are in fact entitled to at least a partial refund.
Ticket prices can be broken down into three parts:
The base fare, fees, and taxes.
If you cancel just before the flight you are entitled to a refund on the fees and taxes which in some cases can be up to 70% of the ticket price.
If you notify the airline before you cancel and they are able to resell your ticket, you could be entitled to up to 95% of your ticket price.

3. Delays
If your flight arrives at its final destination over 3 hours late and the delay wasn't due to "Extraordinary circumstances" such as extreme weather, you are entitled to compensation.
On flights up to 1500 km, the amount is 250 euros,
on flights between 1500 and 3500 km, it's 400 euros,
and on flights over 3500 km, it's 600 euros.
If your flight is delayed by 2 hours the Airline is obliged to supply you with free meals and refreshments, if this delay should exceed 5 hours, you are no longer obliged to take the flight and the airline must provide you with either a full refund, a ticket for a later flight under comparable conditions, or an alternative form of transport, and, independent of the option you choose, you are also entitled to the compensation of up to 600 euros depending on the distance of your flight.

4. Cancellations
If your airline cancels your flight over 14 days beforehand, they are not obliged to pay you compensation.
If they cancel between 8 and 14 days before, they must offer an alternative flight with a departure time variation of no more than 2 hours and an arrival time no greater than 4, or they must pay you compensation.
If they cancel less the 7 days before they must offer an alternative with variations of less than an hour in departure and 2 in arrival.
However should the airline offer you an alternative that falls outside of this timeframe, or should they offer you coupons or vouchers, or fail to offer an alternative at all, they are obliged to compensate you in the same manner as if your flight were delayed, 250 for 1500km, 400 for between 1500 and 3500km, and 600 for over 3500km.
Should you opt for an alternative flight outside the compensation-free timeframe they are also obliged to pay you 50% of the compensation due.

5. Boarding Denied.
There are various reasons why boarding can be denied, but the most common are overbooking, errors inspecting travel documents, or traveling with a different credit card than the one used to book the flight, and these reasons are all considered the airline's responsibility, and therefore, deserve compensation.
The quantity of that compensation is the same as if the flight were delayed or canceled,
600 for 3500km, 250 for 1500km, and 400 for anywhere in between.
Should you be offered and accept an alternative flight within the stipulated timeframe this compensation is reduced to half that amount.

6. Lost or Damaged Luggage.
From the moment your luggage has been correctly checked in, it is entirely the airline's responsibility.
Therefore, should your luggage get lost, be delayed, or get damaged you are also entitled to compensation.
This compensation should cover the costs of replacing any broken items, reimburse you the cost of any emergency purchases you made due to its delay, and replace any of the articles that have been lost, and could be as much as 1500 euros.
However, should your luggage go astray you must claim compensation in a timely manner and be sure to fill in a Property Irregularity Report form before you leave the airport.

Why Dont Airplane Tires EXPLODE on Landing?

Destination Tips 2022-11-18 | Tires can explode from overheating, general wear and tear, being made to carry too much load, or being put under too much stress.
So if Airplane tires have to carry very heavy loads, can be retreaded up to 7 times and undergo at least 500 landings before each retread, and experience extreme stress and heat during every landing...
Why don´t Airplane tires explode?

On the outside, an airplane tire may look a lot like any other tire, but in fact, they are completely different

Composition.
In order to withstand the extreme stresses they have to, an airplane tires are made by combining layers of different materials, these materials are synthetic rubber compounds, aluminium reinforcements, nylon fabrics, steel reinforcements, and aramid fabrics.
Aramid fabrics are strong, heat-resistant fabrics used in ballistic-rated body armor and other military and aerospace applications.

Conductive Rubber.
The synthetic rubber used for airplane tires is called conductive rubber, meaning that it can actually conduct electricity.
On a modern aircraft, there are hundreds of electrical components and sensors that are very sensitive to electrical discharge.
During takeoff and landing, the friction of an Airplane's tires creates static electricity, should this energy suddenly discharge it could interfere with or damage these sensors and have catastrophic consequences.
The conductive rubber allows the tires to conduct that electricity into the ground and therefore avoid a potential build-up of static and its subsequent discharge.

Nitrogen.
Aircraft tires have to be inflated to 14 bar in order to carry the burden of the massive aircraft above them, they also have to endure extreme pressure changes and drastic temperature changes. During a normal flight, a tire's temperature can go from -40ºc to over 200ºc in a relativity short period of time.
Normal pressurized air is affected by temperature change, it's corrosive, and, it's flammable.
So in order to reduce the level of expansion and contraction that the tire suffers during these changes, reduce internal corrosion, and lower the risk of an explosion or fire, airplane tires are actually filled with the inert gas, Nitrogen.

Safety Measures
Airplane tires are also equipped with some pretty ingenious safety devices.
As we mentioned before, aircraft tires have to endure extreme pressures and heat, even though they are filled to 14 bar, the tire itself has to be able to withstand 4 times that pressure for at least 3 seconds in order to be deemed "Safe".
In addition to this, most aircraft wheels are equipped with an OPRV, Over Pressure Relief Valve to release the tire's pressure should it exceed a safe level.
Another safety device wheels have is a Thermal Fusible plug.
This plug has a central core made from a metal that has a low melting point, normally lead or tin.
Should the wheel or tire exceed this temperature during a heavy braking situation, the inner core melts, slowly releasing the tire's pressure and therefore reducing the possibility of an explosion and improving braking by increasing the friction the tire has with the ground.

Circumferential Grooves
Airplane tires don't have the intricate tread patterns that car tires do, just some circumferential grooves, oddly enough, this is also done to stop them from exploding.
A tire's tread is designed to evacuate water from the surface beneath it to increase traction and avoid aquaplaning.

The horizontal tread that we see on a car tires design doesn't appear on an airplane tire because the average aircraft's tire hits the runway at 150 mph and it must accelerate to that speed as it is dragged along the runway,
this stress would literally rip the block-like car tire tread from the tire and possibly cause it to explode.
Also, aircraft really have no need for the horizontal tread anyway.
The horizontal tread is designed to evacuate water as we go around a bend giving us traction when we corner at speed. Should you ever be in an airplane that's cornering at speed, aquaplaning, probably isn't your biggest worry!

7 WORST Places To Visit in India!

Destination Tips 2022-11-08 | Every Country, City, Town, and Village has some beautiful things and some horrible things, sometimes the good things make the bad seem insignificant, and sometimes the bad things make the good stuff seem inexistent.
According to the internet, Here are the Worst Places to Visit In India!

1. Dras.
The mountain town of Dras sits at 3,300 meters and is the second coldest inhabited place in the world with temperatures sometimes dropping to below -45 degrees centigrade.
Dras is only accessible by road, The National Highway 1, which, if we're being honest, is a rather extravagant name for such a humble trail.
In addition to being hard to visit and hard to stay in, Dras has also had problems with Pakistani invasions, the Kargil war in 1999, and in another incident 2013.
To this day, unexploded ammunition and ordnance are still being found in around the area.

2. Bastar.
Bastar is in an area known as The Red Corridor.
The Red Corridor is a region in India where Left-wing extremists called "The Naxalite-Maoist Insurgency" have a strong presence. Terrorist attacks on police and armed forces are fairly common in the area and although they are not directed against civilians there have been many civilian casualties.
Even though it is a beautiful, relatively unexplored destination populated by indigenous tribes, it is also home to an estimated 5000 Maoists, making it just too dangerous to visit.

3. Kanpur.
What you expect from Kanpur is a busy city with beautiful architecture, parks, and gardens sitting on the banks of the Ganges River and famous for its high-quality leather and textiles.
What you get is a dirty and congested city that hasn't been unable to keep up with its own rate of growth.
The water is heavily contaminated with chromium from the tanneries and only half of it is treated before being dumped into the Ganges river.
The air is polluted by factories and the excessive number of vehicles on its inadequate roads.
The streets are littered with the rubbish that it is unable to transport to its over 400 open-air dumps, and continuous and regular power cuts highlight the city's drastic energy problems.

4. Kishtwar Kailash Road.
The Kishtwar Kailash road is the worst place to drive in India.
The 121km from Killar to Kishtwar is a tough journey even for an experienced driver but the last 50km are brutal!
Made from rocks and gravel the road has steep inclines and declines and no rails or barriers to stop you from going off the edge and into a 300m freefall into the Chandrabhaga river.
The road snakes along the cliff face it has been cut into, and the rock above hinders you from seeing oncoming traffic. Because the road is barely a car wide with barely room for two in certain places, if you do meet oncoming traffic, you may find yourself having to reverse back down all the terrifying bends until you can find a place where you can get past.
In addition to this, storms and flooding can make it unpassable even for 4x4s and the change in altitude reduces oxygen levels which can lead to dizziness, and that, is not something you want to experience whilst driving on this road!

5. Gurez Valley.
The Gurez Valley is located just below the military line of control between India and Pakistan. In addition to being a rather volatile and precarious place, it is also littered with unexploded shells and landmines.
The area is subject to heavy snowfall from November to March and is highly prone to avalanches, having once experienced over 80 avalanches in a three-day period.

6. Mumbai.
Mumbai is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with close to 80,000 people packed into every square mile, That's 6 times as many as there are in London, England.
Mumbai also has a trash collection and treatment problem and garbage litters its streets.
Sand storms, factories, and traffic congestion pollute the air with up to 20 times more dangerous particles than are deemed safe by the World Health Organization, In fact, Mumbai's air quality is only really safe during the rainy monsoon season when flooding cripples transport systems and the streets become rivers of refuse!
These problems aren't just specific to Mumbai, they are actually apparent Delhi, Bengaluru, and in most of India's larger cities.
This doesn't mean that Mumbai or other cities don't have some beautiful tourist gems to see, it's just that no matter how beautiful a jewel is, it doesn't really shine much when it's covered in dirt.

10 Bonkers Customs That Are NORMAL To Foreigners!

Destination Tips 2022-10-26 | Traditions, customs, and Religious processions are common in many countries, and although they are completely normal to natives, to outsiders they can seem a little bit crazy.

1. Teeth.
In the UK and the US, when a child loses a tooth, the Tooth fairy takes it away, replacing it with a gift, usually money.
In Spain and France a similar thing happens but "The Tooth Fairy" is actually a mouse called "The Good Little Mouse" or "The Little Mouse Perez", in Jamaica, "The Tooth Fairy" is also a rodent, called "Ratta Ratta".
In the Middle East, the tooth is thrown into the sky so the sun will grant the child a brighter smile with a new tooth.
In Greece, they throw the tooth onto the roof for good luck, and in China, India, Korea, and Vietnam, only the lower teeth are thrown onto a roof for good luck, the upper teeth are placed on, or under the ground, so that the new tooth will grow straight and true.

2. Pomlazka.
The Czechs have an odd custom that supposedly improves a woman's luck, fertility, and health for the upcoming year.
Every Easter, young men braid whips from willow branches and tie ribbons on them, on Easter Monday, they go round the village whipping the girl's legs and buttocks and singing a song which roughly translates as.
"Feast, Feast, give me a painted egg,
if you don't have a painted one,
give me a white one instead,
and then the hen will bring you an egg again"

3. Kanamara festival
In Japan, they also have a fertility custom.
The Kanamara festival is held every year in spring at the Kanayama shrine in Kawasaki, Japan.
Kanamara Matsuri translates as "Festival of the Steel Phallus" and every year there are processions with three different portable shrines:
The Kanamara Boat Mikoshi, which is a roofed shrine on a boat with a shiny black steel penis inside,
The Kanamara Mikoshi, which has a square base and a roof with a wooden penis inside,
and The Elizabeth Mikoshi which is just a large pink penis tied to a platform.
This fertility festival offers penis and vulva-shaped candy for you to suck on, Daikon Radishes to carve penises out of, and a whole range of genitalia-themed goods to buy, from keychains to candles.

4. Pushers.
The Japanese people in general are very honorable, they avoid offending others and respect each other's personal space. However, Japan's Subway system, like every subway system in the world, is crowded and, left to their own devices, the Japanese would respect each other's personal space and the trains would leave half empty. This would make the system impunctual and inefficient.
To overcome this problem the subway system employs people they call "Pushers", their job, is to guide, push, and jam as many people into the trains as possible, increasing the number of passengers on each train and improving the system's efficiency.

5. Falaka.
Falaka is a light-hearted tradition from South Korea.
During a wedding, the friends and family of the groom will make him lie down on the floor or on a table and take his shoes and socks off. Next, they take it in turns to beat the soles of his feet with dried fish whilst someone asks him questions. This custom is supposed to prove that he is worthy to take his bride home with him and strong enough to endure the night ahead of them.

6. Año Nuevo.
In Spain, it is customary to welcome the New year by wearing red underwear for luck.

7 Things NOT To Do in Hawaii!

And this is meant to be a fun video based on these findings, so don't hate and please correct us if we're wrong!

1. Don't Pay For Expensive Hotels.
Expensive resorts may offer amazing amenities, bars, and restaurants, but if you're planning on spending your days exploring the island, going on tours, hiking, or just relaxing on the beach, you won't be using the expensive amenities that you've paid for. To get the full Hawaiian experience, book the first half of your holiday in an affordable hotel, explore the island and go on excursions, and the second half in a nice resort, where you can relax, this will give you the best of both worlds.

2. Don't Go During High Season.
Hawaii is expensive! but even more so in the high season, if you can avoid it, you could save a lot of money on flights, hotels, and activities. If you can plan your trip in September through mid-December or from mid-April to June, not only will it be cheaper but it will be less crowded and easier to book activities, attractions, and guided excursions.

3. Don't Underbudget.
You may have booked your flights, a rental car, and an all-inclusive hotel, but don't think the costs end there. When planning your vacation you need to budget for: resort fees, additional attractions and activities, food costs when you're not in the resort, and parking!
Hotel parking for your rental car is expensive, especially in Waikiki, and because it's charged on a day-by-day basis, it quickly creeps up and you can suddenly find yourself paying two weeks' rental and parking for a car you use on a just couple of occasions.
Try to plan all your car excursions on successive days, this way you'll be able to save money by hiring the car for fewer days and paying fewer days for parking.

4. Don't Just Eat At Chain Restaurants.
Going on holiday and just eating in Mcdonald's or KFC is just stupid and wrong,
When Hawaii has Kalua Pulled Pork, Barbeque Huli Huli Chicken, Garlic Shrimp,
Kalbi Short Ribs, and Manapua steam buns filled with curried chicken, hotdogs, or barbequed pork
why would you eat a big mac?

5. Don't Leave It Too Late.
While most bars and clubs stay open till 2 am, and some are allowed to close at 4, Hawaiian restaurants are all closed around 9 pm, so if you turn up around 8 pm, you probably won't get served.
If you want to have a late supper out, make sure you phone the restaurant beforehand and make a reservation for the latest time possible, this way you won't find yourself hungry and angry in a street full of closed restaurants rushing around, looking for a grocery shop.

6. Don't Take Rocks, Shells, Or Sand Home.
Hawaii has a limited number of rocks, shells, and sand, in fact, Waikiki beach is almost entirely manmade and erosion and climate change cause it to lose at least 30 cm of the beach a year.
Hawaii receives millions of tourists every year, if everyone were to take a jar of sand home with them the island's beaches would disappear in no time.
In addition to this, it is considered bad luck to take rocks and sand from the island and those who do will incur the wrath of Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of fire and Volcanoes.
This may seem a bit ridiculous, but before you laugh, there might actually be some truth to it.
Every year, thousands of packages containing sand and rocks are mailed back to the island addressed to Pele and pleading for her forgiveness.
Rocks have been received from all over the world including Japan, Australia, and even Germany, with postage costs sometimes reaching as high as $100!

7. Don't Pick The Wrong Island.
Hawaii has 4 main islands and each offers a different experience, make sure you pick the right one for your home base and don't try to visit them all during your stay because you'll end up spending most of your vacation time traveling.
Big Island is the biggest and has the bluest waters, and active volcanoes, although you may not see actual lava flow.
Kauai has tropical rainforests to explore, the Napali Coast, and Queens Bath.
Maui has whale watching, snorkelling, and water sports.
and Oahu has Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, and Pearl Harbor.

1. Dubai Garden Glow in Zabeel Park.
Dubai Garden Glow is sold as "The largest glow in the dark garden made of millions of energy-saving LED's and 120 Animatronic Dinosaurs".
What you actually get for the $30 entrance fee is a cheap and tacky park full of poorly maintained plastic dinosaurs, no music, no show, and pushy food vendors selling expensive shawarma and tornado potatoes at $12 each! 12 dollars! For one potato!

2. Burj Khalifa Observation Decks.
This attraction is just too pricey for what it offers, the views aren't tremendously spectacular, and at 555m up, the 148th-floor observation deck is still well over 100 meters below of the top of the building
If you want to see all the observation decks on the 124th, 125th, and 148th floors, it's going to cost you over $56 per person and you'll probably spend at least an hour queueing to get up there and another 30 minutes queueing to get back down.
You could avoid these queues by getting a "Skip the Line" ticket, but that will cost you over $130 per person!

3. Desert Safari Packages.
In Dubai, there are a wide variety of desert tour providers, and some are really good, but beware! if you plan on going on a desert tour make sure you research the provider well beforehand, some companies will offer all the activities like Dune bashing, quad rides, sand boarding, Arabic coffee and dates, henna, and an unlimited Arabic buffet, but then only deliver long commutes to a desert camp, a small meal box and a short fire show with a belly dancer.

4. Dubai Mall.
Dubai Mall is the biggest mall in Dubai and a "Must see" for every tourist, but this, unfortunately, makes it an incredibly busy place. Even though it is bigger than other malls in Dubai it has the same types of shops and offers a similar type of experience.
If you want to shop but also want to avoid the tourist crush, you are better off visiting smaller malls like Emirates Mall or Wafi Mall.

5. Jumeirah Public Beach.
When visiting Jumeirah beach you expect a beautiful white sand beach, clean water, and the Burj Al Arab in the background.
What you get is a cigarette butt-littered sand pit with limited and expensive facilities, dirty water with plastic floating in it, nasty smells, and views of numerous construction sites and for some reason, hundreds of fully clothed Indian Men.

6. Palm Jumeirah.
Unless you're planning on going to the water park or the Atlantis hotel, Palm Jumeirah isn't really worth visiting, sure, its shape and the way it was built are pretty impressive but you can only really appreciate them fully from above. At ground level, it just looks like a bunch of houses grouped together.

7. Deira and Sonapur.
In Dubai, as is with most cities, there is a balance, the richer some areas are, the poorer other areas become, but in Dubai, the richer areas are right at the top of the scale, tremendously extravagant and ultra-modern and this means that the poorer areas are right down at the bottom of the scale, dirty and overcrowded shack-filled slums.
While it may be nice to visit areas like the Deira district during the day for a more authentic experience and its many souks, it is best not to stay there or to visit after dark, and places like Sonapur it is best to avoid altogether!

The crew members on a cruise have a secret code they use to communicate without distressing the passengers, some examples of these codes are:
30,30- which is a request for cleanup (this is normally a P.V.I. or Public Vomiting Incident.)
Alpha- is a Medical Emergency,
Adam- means a child is missing.
Bravo- is a fire,
Echo- means the ship is starting to drift,
Kilo- is a request for all staff to report to their emergency posts,
Operation Rising Star-means someone has died.
and Oscar means someone has gone overboard.

2. Trickery
Cruise lines want you to spend as much money as possible on their cruise and they have a variety of sneaky techniques to accomplish this, some of them include:

-Bundling- They offer bundles like an "all-inclusive drinks package" that you pay months in advance.
This way when you are on the cruise you feel that you have, what industry executives call "A Fresh Wallet" making you more likely to spend money on other things than you would be if you were also paying for your drinks whilst onboard.

-Room Key Credit Cards.
Using your room key as a credit card makes things a lot easier for guests but also, studies have shown that people are far more likely to spend when using a credit card than when using cash.

3. Subliminal Messaging.
Cruise Ships also use subliminal messages to manipulate their passengers for various reasons:
Special promotions are organized in different areas of the ship, the idea being to move guests around the ship to avoid or decrease congestion in other areas.
If the casino's revenue is low, they'll host an event or raffle on the far side of the slot machines, increasing foot traffic through the area and therefore potential revenue.
Spas and restaurants have special offers on port days to encourage you to stay on the ship and spend your money onboard, and you are informed of all of these special offers by a Daily Newscast from your Activity Manager as she sips on an iced coffee from Starbucks. "which can be found on Deck 4 in the Centrum!"

4. Cleanliness.
Cruise ships are incredibly clean, the kitchens are spotless and common areas are regularly disinfected.
However, this isn't so much as to maintain a clean image as it is to control the spread of illness.
With thousands of people packed into a confined area, cruise ships are a breeding ground for bacteria and disease and so cruise lines have to follow strict sanitary protocols.
The normal protocol is OPP1 or Outbreak Prevention Plan 1, this consists of audio and visual reminders to passengers to wash their hands at the hand sanitizer stations located at all high traffic junctions.

OPP2 is put in place when there is a "6 in 6", 6 passengers taken ill within 6 hours.
This protocol includes enforcing mandatory hand sanitization before entering any of the common areas and the quarantining of all inflicted passengers or crew members.

OPP3 is when things get serious, self-service is prohibited, all crew members must help to serve food in the buffets, and all restaurant and guestroom linen is put in red biohazard bags and laundered in a separate special facility onboard.

5. The Small Print.
Buried within the small print of the contract you sign before setting sail are a number of clauses and conditions that the cruise companies aren't willing to advertise too loudly:
-We give them permission to track us via our key card and with the cctv cameras that have face recognition software and are located almost everywhere on the ship, apart from your cabin and in the bathroom.
-We also give them permission to search us, our belongings, and our cabin, they can also confine us to our cabins or even the ship's prison, if the Captain deems it necessary.
-The captain can also disembark us at any port, without facilitating our passage home or compensation should he think we are a danger to security or guilty of a crime.
-The cruise line can also change your itinerary and even choose to drop ports whenever they see fit and they don't have to offer compensation unless they themselves define the change a 'significant' one.

So unless you're a massive fan of the blues, soul, and rock and roll, you're probably better off avoiding the 1 in 41 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime.

2. Gary, Indiana.
Gary is the birthplace of Michael Jackson and while this may be a hefty "claim to fame" it doesn't quite outweigh the town's crime rate, pollution, lack of tourist attractions, and proximity to the state's maximum security prison!
Considering that Chicago is just 25 miles away from Gary, rather than become a great place to visit, Gary has become a place to point at and say "MJ was born there!" on your way through.

3. Cleveland, Ohio.
Cleveland is known for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and being consistently ranked by Forbes as one of the most miserable cities in the U.S.
Its population has been steadily declining since the 1960s and has gone from close to a million people down to just around 350,000, and as the city's population decreased its poverty and crime rate increased.

7 Things NOT To Do in California! #shorts

1. Don't Drive In The Rain.
It doesn't rain often in California, in fact, you could stay there for months without seeing a drop! This lack of rain means that the road surfaces build up a residue of grease, oil, exhaust emissions, and other fluids.
When it finally does rain, this grease layer turns the roads into a dangerously slippery surface that is best to avoid.
If you have to drive, wait until it rains enough to wash away this greasy layer away, or even better, wait until it stops raining, because, for some strange reason, no matter which country you are in, when it starts to rain all the idiot drivers get into their cars.

2. Don't Drink The Tap Water.
Although California is a large state with over 7000 public water systems, only 4000 are regulated by the Division of Drinking Water and at least 300 of those that aren't, are out of compliance with basic drinking water standards.
We aren't going to list those 300 so you can avoid them, because, to be honest, it'd bore you and you probably wouldn't remember them anyway so, to cut a long story short, Don't Drink The Tap Water!

3. Don't Diss In-and-Out.
The fast-food chain "In-and-Out" started in California over 70 years ago and until fairly recently was exclusive to the state making it somewhat of an institution.
On the face of it, it may seem like just another burger joint offering the same old products cooked in the same old way and with way fewer options than its competitors, but it's probably best not to say this whilst you're in California!

or on a video that a Californian may watch.
But although In and Out may seem just like the rest, things aren't always what they seem.
In and Out actually has a Secret Menu! (That's not really that secret because here it is

Burgers with lettuce for buns, burgers with 4 patties and 4 times the cheese, chili burgers, animal-style fries, and mustard grilled patties, not only is their menu more interesting than their rivals, but their burgers are larger, tastier, fresher, and cheaper than most too!

4. Don't Rely On It Being Warm.
As we said before, California is huge, so big in fact that it doesn't have the same climate everywhere within the state.
While places like L.A may have a Mediterranean climate, the Mojave Desert and Death Valley have a desert-like climate, and further north in South Lake Tahoe the temperature can drop to -10C in winter and in summer never rise above 30C.
This is also true about the temperature of the sea. Whereas in summer in Santa Monica the average sea temperature is a "fresh but manageable" 21c, further north in Mendocino it won't climb above a "freeze your nuts off" 11c!
Check the weather for where you plan to travel and pack accordingly, wearing shorts in Malibu may be fine, but in San Francisco, they scream tourist!

5. Don't Support The Wrong Teams.
In Spain, walking around Barcelona wearing a Real Madrid shirt will probably get you into a bit of trouble, this is something that seems to happen almost everywhere in the world, so if you do have to wear sports merchandise, make sure you're wearing the right team!
Before you leave, learn which teams are from the area and who their rivals are, this way if you're planning on visiting Oracle Park or watching a San Francisco Giants game you'll know it's best not to do it in a Dodgers shirt.

6. Don't Think California Is just L.A. And San Francisco.
A thing you need to know about "Cali" is that it's not just made up of L.A. or "Frisco" as we see in the movies. (Also never call California "Cali" or San Francisco "Frisco" or "San Fran").
California has National Parks, Beaches, Vineyards, Snow-capped Mountains, Deserts, and Redwood forests. Don't just limit your stay to just the typical major cities or you'll be missing out on the genuine California.
