Best UHP All Season Tire? Continental vs Pirelli vs Falken vs BFGoodrich vs General vs Vredestein
updated
To find out how much wheel weight really affects driving dynamics and performance, I had what must be the world's heaviest 19x10 wheel made, weighing in at 52lbs (24kgs), a 38lb (17kgs) wheel, and I got a set of the beautiful Apex VS-5RS at 19lb (9.1kgs) to get acceleration, braking and handling / lap time.
The results surprised me.

From the first drive the difference is immediate, the car is flatter yet more compliant over curbs. I can't wait to dial it in properly but I'm already well up on my fastest lap at my local track with some stock settings bimmerworld kindly provided.
Good damping is expensive but really makes a difference with adjustability, control, and most importantly imo, driving enjoyment.

l look at on-road comfort, noise, and steering response, before taking both tyres off-road to see how they handle sand, gravel, rock, and more. The KO3 is a worthy benchmark thanks to its excellent comfort, low road noise, and strong snow and off-road performance, but Pirelli claims the XTM matches or beats it in almost every measurable category.
I cover:
Whatβs new with the Pirelli Scorpion XTM vs the old Scorpion AT+
How it compares to the KO3 in comfort, noise, and steering feel
Off-road traction, braking, and handling differences
Key stats like treadwear, weight, and price
Whether Pirelliβs bold performance claims hold up in real-world driving
Both are premium, 3PMSF snow-rated all-terrain tyres β but which one would I pick? Watch to find out.

To find how the differences between popular track options I put three very best in their segment through their paces on track to answer one of the most common enthusiast questions: how much performance do you actually gain by moving from a street tire to a track-focused compound, and then to a full-blown βsuper 200β tire?
The tires I test:
Street Tire: Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 β a daily-friendly tire that also handles the occasional track day.
Endurance 200: Continental ExtremeContact Force β built for consistent lap times and track durability.
Super 200: Hoosier Track Attack Pro β one of the most extreme street-legal track tires available.
Using a BMW M4 GT4 on a hot day at Thermal Raceway (with thanks to the BMW Performance Driving School), we compare real lap times, heat performance, steering response, and overall drivability.
By the end of the video you should learn how each tire behaves across multiple laps, how heat affects performance, and which might be best for your next track day. Whether you're just starting out or looking for maximum lap time, thereβs something here for every driver.
Let me know in the comments what tires you run on track, and check the links below to learn more or book a day at the BMW Performance Driving School!

Then there's the CrossClimate 3 Sport β a completely different tyre designed for performance vehicles that want sporty summer handling and solid winter ability. It's great.

Most of these tires are available in Europe and the US. The PZ5 has been released in Europe already, I believe it's coming to the US, you should message Pirelli to encourage them.
I put the brand new Pirelli P Zero PZ5 against the top performance summer tyres on the market - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, Continental SportContact 7, Bridgestone Potenza Sport, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, Falken Azenis FK520, and a budget Sunny option.
Can Pirelli's latest UUHP (Ultra Ultra High Performance) tyre really raise the bar in both handling AND grip? Watch the full test to find out!

Summer tires (tyres) are primarily available in Europe, however a number of these patterns are available in North America too. Summer tyres are designed for temperatures above freezing (though can be used in below freezing temperatures with reduced grip), and have almost zero snow or ice ability.

The Uniroyal Tiger Paw SRTT is the industry benchmark tire, it's essentially the baseline for programs like the EU tire label. The production of this tire is very tightly controlled by Michelin meaning there is super low variation between production runs, something vitally important for a reference tire.
It's very likely that the tire you have on your road car was benchmarked against this tire at some point in its life.

No one has done this level of testing before. Both the BMW M3 and Audi RS4 were on the same matching winter [snow] tires, the Pirelli P Zero Winter. Same size, same pattern, same wheel width, to make this as fair as possible.
Both cars were tested in snow drag races, ice races, and snow handling to finally answer what AWD / four wheel drive system is best in the snow, the BMW X-Drive or Audi Quattro.
If you've seen a better / more scientific test, let me know in the comments. Otherwise be sure to subscribe, and follow me on instagram for more fun like this.

Ever wondered if a low tire pressure or high tire pressure is best in snow? There's loads of good arguments for both low and high.
In theory a high tire pressure puts more pressure through a smaller footprint to increase grip. Also, in theory, a low tire pressure puts more rubber in contact with the surface of the road to... give more grip!
Both can't be correct (well I guess they can as tire testing can be very confusing) so I'm going to scientifically test low tire pressure vs high tire pressure in snow traction, snow braking, snow handling, ice traction and ice braking at 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50psi to finally answer what pressure is best in the snow, low or high tire pressure.
The results might surprise you, and it will hopefully stop everyone on the internet arguing.

Ever wonder what would happen if you mount a directional tire backwards in the snow, dry, and wet?
I find out by putting the same tire through a full, data driven tire test. We test a set of the amazing Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3s in 235/35 R19 mounted forward, and a set of exactly the same tires mounted backwards. We test them in the dry, wet and snow, looking at traction and braking, handling, aquaplaning resistance, noise, basically everything you could ever test.
The results might surprise you! They did me.

To give this test extra depth, I also have six ultra high performance winter tyres in exactly the same size, and I've included a summer tyre. With this relatively small test field I've managed to test everything as one test, which means a common control allowing us to cross reference the data. This has shown us how the very best all season tyres compare to the very best summer and winter tyres in the snow, ice, dry and wet. There's some really interesting insight into how the all season tyres compare to the other categories below.

Building upon the huge success of the Hoosier R7, the TrackAttack Pro aims to take all the goodness of the best Hoosier race tire and package it up in a streetable product, rather than taking a street tire and trying to make it fast on track.
They're not only going after the other 200tw tires, they're aiming big. The new TrackAttack Pro aims to take on the might of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R on vehicles like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
In this first drive, I get to compare it to the Hoosier R7 and a Hoosier Medium Racing Slick to see just how good the new tire is. In the future I will be sure to test it against the main rivals such as the Yokohama Advan A052, Bridgestone Potenza RE71RS and many others.
The test was conducted at Thermal RaceWay at the bmwperformancecenter.com , you too can pay to drive this beautiful GT4 car, I highly recommend you do.

Both offroad all terrain tires are in the same size (LT275/65 R18) and are fitted to identical wheels to ensure the fairest possible test.
The wheels are high load rating off-road developed Mantra Fox - mantrawheels.com
In the video I compare the BFGoodrich and Falken on and off-road, looking at the performance of the tires on gravel and sand,, and also how they perform on road in terms of the comfort, noise and steering response.
We also compare the pricing of the two tires, tread life warranty and talk about the snow and wet performance of the tires.
The advantage of this test is that I'm actually driving them myself and directly comparing them, unlike all the other comparisons online.

The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 is the successor to the hugely popular Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, and aims to be better in every way, but in particular better steering reactions which is something i always found lacking on the PS4S.
The MO version of the tire has taken the base of the PSS5 and tuned it even further to work perfectly with the new Mercedes AMG GT63.
In this video we interview the lead Michelin / AMT development test driver, and compare the new Pilot Sport S 5 [MO1] against the track focused Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R [MO1]

Do you really need special wheels and tires to have fun on track days? What i you car is totally stock? Does the stock camber and make track day or 200tw tires a waste of money?
To find out I've tested one of the best of street tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S against one of the fastest 200tw track tires, the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS.
In the test we not only look at how fast each of the tires are, but also how easy they are to drive fast, peak braking, acceleration and lateral grip / G, and everything else involved with going fast on track.
Thanks to fitment industries for the wheels.

Full details of the test can be found on TyreReviews.com, and yes I will be testing it as soon as Porsche agree to lend me a 992. There's a lot of interesting technology in this new tire which comes directly from Pirelli's involvement in various motorsports. I can't wait to try it.

For the longest time the Michelin CrossClimate 2 has been the best all season tire available to buy.
Now the Michelin is over 3 years old there have been some new challengers from Bridgestone, Continental and Pirelli.
To find out which is best I test the new all season tires against the CrossClimate 2, and include all season tires from Dunlop and Yokohama.
I test these in the dry, wet, snow and ice, I test rolling resistance, noise and wear in what should be the most in depth all season test this year!
The tires in the test:
Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6
Continental AllSeasonContact 2
Dunlop Sport All Season
Fronway Fronwing AS
Michelin CrossClimate 2
Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3
Yokohama BluEarth 4S AW21

We know car manufacturers love to make a custom tire for their vehicle, but why do they do that and what does that mean for the driver?
For a lot of cars, the manufacturer often focuses on things that make the driving experience worse, or even unsafe.
This is why fitting OE or original equipment tyres isn't always the best idea.
The counter argument to this video can be found here:

FWD = Front Wheel Drive
RWD = Rear Wheel Drive
I'll be testing acceleration, or snow traction to see which car is fastest on snow, hill climb to demonstrate which drivetrain is best for getting up a hill, snow circle to test the lateral acceleration and of course, snow handling to see if the FWD Audi A4 is faster around a lap than the RWD BMW 3 Series.
FWD = Front Wheel Drive
RWD = Rear Wheel Drive
This isn't just a test of drivetrain; it's a showdown between two automotive giants. Whether you're a car enthusiast or just curious about how these cars perform in winter conditions, this video is a must-watch!
After the tests, we break down the performance of each vehicle, discussing the pros and cons of FWD and RWD in snowy conditions.
In the test we have a traditional all season tire, "Anti Skid thickened tendons", which are are a type of cleat, but also essentially just cable ties, "Adjustable Anti Slip Tire Chains" which are fat cable ties, with studs, Peerless Chain Passenger Cables, Diamond Alloy Tire Chains, Autosock snow socks, and of course a snow / winter tire, the Michelin X-Ice Snow.
Each traction device will be tested on a 15% incline, then a 20% if it gets up the 15% hill, plus we will scientifically test the traction and braking of the devices and the tires on a snow flat and ice flat.
This will be the ultimate test to see which device really is best in the snow and ice, and whether any can compete with the winter tire.

In theory, the electric vehicle should have the advantage as the electric motors of the tesla can react much faster than the mechanical AWD system of the Audi, but the RS4 has been developed in the worlds most extreme situations, the snow rallying of World Rally Championship.
The acceleration will be testing on snow and ice to see which is faster in a drag race, and hill climb and snow handling / lap times will also be tested to see which is best overall!

It's one of the oldest argument on the internet, and it crops up every winter.
Are you better off with a narrow or wide winter tire?
In this video we'll find out whether a narrow tyre or a wide tyre is best for snow and ice by comparing a 205 wide tyre on a 16" wheel, all the way up to a 275 tyre on a 19" wheel!
First, let's quickly talk about why we're having this argument. There are two contrasting theories about grip on snow and ice, and both of them are technically correct.
The first is the one you most often hear from the internet experts, and it gets used for dry and wet performance too. That is that a narrow tyre can apply more pressure on the surface below. While this is true specifically from a physical grip point of view, it ignores the fact tyres produce chemical grip, and that the footprint shape changes with different tyres widths. Which is kinda a shame as I think a La Ferrari would look hilarious on 155 wide tyres.
The second argument is that a wider tyre has more in contact with the surface., which means more compound to grip, a greater distance of sipes, the cuts in the rubber in a winter tyres tread pattern which gives the tyre more gripping edges, and everything else being equal, a wider tyre should have a little more space to pack snow into the tread, and as snow grips snow pretty effectively, this is an advantage.
As always, it's a really in depth test, comparing the snow handling, traction and braking performance of the four sets of tires to see which is best in the winter!
Can an all terrain tire really get close to a full winter tire, or out perform a good all weather in the snow? Or will be barely be able to match the all season? Only one way to find out.
It's worth noting that three of the tires are 3PMSF marked, which is the 3 peak mountain snowflake symbol, sometimes called "severe snow rating" which means they're tested to be legal winter tires. The Winter, All Weather and All Terrain tires carry the 3PMSF marking, but the all season does not.
The test size was 265/65 R17.

This will help us answer whether a snow rated (3 Peak mountain snowflake) all terrain really can replace a good all season tire, or even a winter tire in snow.
