2022 Wisconsin Frozen Butt Hang Miyagi on the Trail 2022-03-08 | The annual "Wisconsin Frozen Butt Hang" is a great place to dip your toes into the world of winter camping. The event is organized by Nick Gordon from NOW OUTDOORS over an extended weekend. This trip is all about hammocks, snowshoes, big fires, bushcrafting, campfire cooking and of course lollygagging! It's a great place to talk gear, discuss winter camping techniques and just have a great time cooking food and socializing around huge campfires. Backpacking Hemingways Big Two Hearted River Miyagi on the Trail 2021-11-18 | Join Miyagi, Trips, The Wanderer, Raspberry Al, Tiffany and Goose on a three day backpacking trip along the Two Hearted River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula along the North Country Trail, the longest national scenic trail in the United States.Following his recuperation from an injury during his service in World War 1, renowned American Author Ernest Hemingway spent time with friends in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the area of the Two Hearted River. This fall adventure in the year 1919 was later the inspiration for his famous short story "The Big Two Hearted River".In Hemingway's stories he typically position nature as a source of refuge and rebirth. His characters are often shown retreating to the country in search of regeneration. Hiking the Jordan River Pathway - Lower Michigan Triple Crown Miyagi on the Trail 2021-05-05 | Join Miyagi, Rob Pelton "Krusty", Midwest Backpacker "Almost", Mark Goes Hiking, As the Crow Flies Hiking "Crow", and Backcountry Pilgrim as theyhike the Jordan River Pathway as part of the first leg of the Lower Michigan Triple Crown.The Jordan River Pathway is an 18-mile (29 km) loop trail located in Michigan in Antrim County, next to the Jordan River and the Jordan River hatchery. It includes Deadman’s Hill near U.S. Route 31 in Michigan at one end and Pinney Bridge forest campground at the opposite end. One side of the loop in incorporated into the North Country Trail. The Jordan River was Michigan's first to be designated a Wild River (National Wild and Scenic Rivers System), unhindered by damming. This scenic valley is well worth a trip in any season, however fall colors are noteworthy due to its rich hardwood forests. Its looped trail system is mixed with moderate to rugged topography, providing excellent opportunities for hikers and backpackers. The full pathway is a good two-day hike. Backpackers can stay at the Pinney Bridge State Campground, located near the trail's halfway point (dispersed camping is not allowed in the Jordan Valley). Hikers can conveniently start and end at the same place if completing a smaller loop or the whole trail. This trail houses four different trailheads that allow access to the pathway, with the main trailhead located at Deadman’s Hill Overlook.
