And well I have a lot of my own associations with Counting Crows music - my mom loved them enough to own a Greatest Hits CD of theirs (and after my abusive mom died I decided to incoportate a Counting Crows song into her memorial slideshow), and I was supposed to go to a concert of theirs with the ex I had the hardest time getting over, and still went to their concert with my brother instead after the breakup. I have a lot of love for so many of their songs and had never really heard this one before Roswell NM introduced me to it in January (when I finally dove into watching that series). I've actually vidded Counting Crows' music a few times before.

I'm really sorry for not including any Alaric at all, since you also mentioned shipping Alaric/Katherine - and same with Cora. You said you shipped Stiles/Cora and I completely, idk, forgot about her. But Alaric and Cora are fairly minor, I think, in the characters' whole journeys, so hopefully you don't mind too much that I left them out. Multi-Fandom Foster Youth & Former Foster Youth, 8 vidders! I am SO impressed with how well you all made use of this song with unusual lyrics and how well it ended up working for the theme, and how well all the parts flowed together. I am so proud of how this turned out and so happy with how well everything flowed together. I'm gonna leave a detailed comment gushing about everyone's parts. And yay for 24 fandoms represented, and even if you don't count the 8 fandoms that are only in my introduction part and no where else, there's still a good 16 fandoms throughout the entire collab. There were even more scenes and fandoms and characters I wished we all could've vidded/I wished could've made it in, but I'm really happy with the fact that we got so many in. ;) I'm planning to become a foster caregiver, to sign up to be a foster parent when i am financially stable enough, ideally when I find a co-parenting partner... so hopefully within the next 3 ish years I'll really be ready to start the process. I've been working on establishing my own business I started & it's been slow going so I don't really have the necessary financial situation quite yet. But hopefully it's within reach. I've been talking about & thinking about my dream to become a foster parent for nearly 20 years. I think ever since I was 13 years old I was thinking about it. My mom was quite abusive and I am a sex-averse asexual and I had a lot of reasons I was drawn towards this alternative path to parenthood. I realized at some point that my grandmother who helped raise me was in many ways like an emotionally neglectful foster guardian in some ways too. This all led to my goals being what they are for me.I have been researching a lot about the perspectives of Former Foster Youth (FFY) and I really wanted this video to center THEIR perspectives and not the foster parents, who are often framed as "saviors". I wanted us vidders all to capture the struggles that foster youth deal with, the trauma, the complex mixed emotions, the wide spectrum of experiences from they can have within the foster care system. Most of these perspectives are from the point of view of the USA - I believe Orphan Black takes place in Canada, there's a sci-fi/alien component to the Roswell, New Mexico story, it's not all super based in reality of course, it's all just fiction, but... from what I can tell from years of listening to the voices of FFY, I think this video is mostly based on very real things kids and teens go through. There is a lot of oversimplification of issues in television and film, there's a weirdly high percentage of teens in foster care who talk about having been given up as a baby but no one found an adoptive parent for them. That seems really unrealistic for a kid without severe disability so I'm not sure why that keeps being portrayed that way. There are honestly too many parents wanting to adopt the babies... but nonetheless, I feel like this video highlighted a lot of the real issues and traumatic situations that foster youth have to survive. And I love how it turned out! Marissa Coopers Bisexual Awakening - Bi Bi Bi VioletEmerald 2022-07-24 | The voiceovers that are not transcribed in text burned onto/rendered onto the video as open captions are now added in the Closed Captions (CC) if you want to toggle those on - up to you. ;)~~~ I first saw all 4 seasons of The O.C. over the summer of 2009, when I was 19 years old. But season 2 of this show actually aired in 2004-2005, which is nearly 20 years ago at this point... and TV has progressed a lot since then.I did not yet know I was not straight myself (I'm actually a gray-panromantic asexual) and I didn't understand at the time when I was watching Marissa's "lesbian" arc that actually, she was being portrayed as very clearly bi and into both guys like Ryan and girls like Alex. It took me years before I realized Marissa was Bi - they didn't use the word on the show! And I was so unaware about stuff back then! Being ace but unaware of that, I also just kinda went with whatever they were telling us about who she enjoyed kissing or had these feelings for, without much thought. I really... related a lot to Marissa in some ways, and I really liked multi-shipping her with both Alex and with Ryan, tbh. The show semi-implied this was "just a phase" for Marissa, as even Kirsten had a line like that as well as Julie having a few, and because Alex was the only girl Marissa ever expressed interest in, but Marissa never said it was a phase. Marissa had a real relationship spanning 7 or 8 episodes with a girl she had strong feelings for... A lot of the writing of the show was pretty homophobic/biphobic/queerphobic and yet at the same time it was a really wonderful piece of teen queer representation during the 2004 television landscape. A lot of people have fond memories of what this was.Also, there are 4 million "Bi Bi Bi" videos on YouTube and most bi characters have one, but Marissa never had her own vid and I got inspired to maybe make my own Bi Bi Bi video for Marissa years ago. I was vidding The O.C. again for a collab that will go up on my channel in the next couple weeks or so, and was hit with the inspiration to make this idea, and made the whole video in only 2 days, mostly on a Saturday, which is a record speed for me lately. Usually I put so much more thought, time, and effort into videos but this one was just... I was giving myself permission to just have fun and do whatever was fast and easy. I know most people who vid this song in the bisexuality way don't really follow the lyrics all that closely, so I gave myself permission to semi-ignore the lyrics as well. (It's complicated to decide how many seasons the show has. Netflix had said 6, but officially it's 4 I think. Two of the seasons were split into two separate chunks of story though, originally airing in winter vs. in summer on ABC Family.)I hope to make a full-length vid for something about the show sometime, and while it might just end up being a Cappie/Casey vid or nothing... Gilmore Girls: Rory & Jess (Literati) [Foolish Games by Jewel] VioletEmerald 2022-07-07 | One of my favorite Rory/Jess videos I ever made. This is the remastered version of my fanvideo from 2008, which you can view the original as an unlisted vid still here: youtube.com/watch?v=Ela3RHzXXpQI had the idea probably over 15 years ago, but only felt ready to make it and did make it 14 years ago. I was always so proud of this vid. I wanted to re-edit it with widescreen clips that were all the correct aspect ratio and higher quality/not blurry on the better screens we all view vids on these days ;) I hope I did the remaster justice! I kept super closely to what the original was like but there were a few moments where I decided to change my timing slightly, or vid the scenes in a slightly different way... I added in one scene that wasn't in the original, but didn't remove anything. ;) I hope the quality of the clips is good enough that it was worth the remastering process, even with all the various coloring effects I added on top. It was so hard for me to resist adding in voiceovers at select moments while I was editing this, as voiceovers is my new vidding style I would always do... but I knew part of what was so wonderful about the original was the fact that it had zero voiceovers, and all the scenes speak for themselves and match the lyrics perfectly, the lyrics get to shine, and all the true Rory/Jess fans know exactly what they said in each moment anyway and why each scene fits so perfectly. ;) So I stuck to the no-voiceovers way I originally edited it.I couldn't get the NewBlue FX that would've matched the transitions in the original most closely - if I had more money this year maybe I would've - but in the end I actually really like that I had to switch up the transitions to a different style. I think this new style suits the vid just as well.My memory for these scenes is still nearly as strong as ever btw. I was able to quickly find almost all of these scenes again and know exactly where in the episodes they'd be. Only two of the less popularly vidded moments did I guess wrong at first and have to take a few extra minutes to find them lol - one was pretty easy to Google but the other one I had to skim through a handful of s3 episodes to find the tiny moment. But re-editing this entire video to copy the original was so much quicker than editing a new video tends to be for me these days - and I'm glad for that!It feels weird to me, seeing what my 17-year-old self already saw in the story of Rory/Jess, long before I figured out my asexuality or started dating and ended up in my own relationships with avoidant partners like Jess who played their own foolish games at times and ultimately each broke my heart. I wish I could've realized the depth of how this ship resonated for me might've in some ways been a warning sign or something lol... I adore Jewel's music, and in fact recently vidded "You Were Meant For Me" for a ship on a show hardly anyone watched: youtube.com/watch?v=ecaX4QJW7j0 but part of me always imagined maybe that song would also work amazingly well for Luke & Lorelai - if anyone ever vids that idea, I'd be so ecstatic ;) One day I hope to vid at least one more Jewel song, probably for the fandom Shameless but we'll see. I relate to the perspective in this song now in a way I didn't back when i edited it. i get it more deeply. I've lived this kind of partnership and intense feelings that the album is about. Lorelai & Christopher - Champagne Problems VioletEmerald 2022-03-28 | If you want, you may turn on the CC (Closed Captions) for the voiceovers and/or lyrics transcribed, and toggle with the settings gear ⚙️ to change it between the options of captions. The perfectionist in me was so strong with this one. I felt like I couldn't stop tweaking it even when it was basically done for like days on end, and I kept imagining doing fancy stuff with text on screen but then didn't ultimately decide to do anything fancy at all with text on screen, etc etc. I wanted to fit more in than would fit but didn't want scenes to be rushed - I hold myself to a higher standard with Gilmore Girls vids for multiple reasons, because it was my first main vidding fandom and because there are so many talented Gilmore Girls vidders out there these days! But this idea I had within the first couple months of this song's release, early 2021 while I was in the midst of a Gilmore Girls rewatch, while seemingly everyone else was vidding it for Rory/Logan. I knew it would work well for these two but didn't realize just *how* well until I was inside of editing it! I am pretty proud of the final result and I really hope you all like it!I made my own coloring for this, btw.Please leave me a comment if you enjoyed it! And her way of breaking up with me made me think back to the way that guy broke up with me too.So anyway... songs like "All Too Well" make me think of my exes and especially that one guy... lol... and then Jewel as an artist I adore but also Jewel herself now kinda sorta at times makes me think of him... I'm clearly as much of a mess as so many of my dysfunctional faves in fandoms 😅.I now realize this song in particular is SUCH an epic ADHD anthem (Nicholas canonically has ADHD). I just love how the lyrics describe a person who does the kind of things those of us with ADHD do - like accidentally leaving keys in the door or leaving the lights on! 😅 I wish people vidded this song sometimes but I don't think I've ever seen a vid set to this song before. I've wanted to vid it for many years but wasn't sure what ship would fit it well enough - the closest I got was Lorelai/Luke maybe on "Gilmore Girls" but I was never inspired. And then suddenly I realized like a week ago as I was finishing my first ever Michael/Alex "Roswell, New Mexico" vid that I could make Nicholas/Alex work for this song! I've watched some episodes of this show about 4 times now because of showing some to my Ace & Aro meetup group for the asexuality storyline... + then we watched & discussed the sexual consent stuff in 1 etc. And I just. I have so many thoughts and feelings about this show and these characters. I really want to try to write some fanfiction for it but I haven't written any fanfiction for ANY fandom in like 2.5 years so... we'll see... But I've been thinking for at least 3 ish months I wanted to write fic for this fandom! So. Maybe I actually will. It's in depth and not just a one-off scene for an insignificant character. Yes it's not perfect... see a couple paragraphs down here... but it's definitely, overall, quite good.I've never seen a homoromantic asexual character on television, an autistic asexual character, an asexual character in a same gender partnership, open relationships with aces where an allo partner has sex with other people, an asexual character getting married... this little Freeform TV show that's currently on Hulu gave us all of that and more, and as a gray-aro, pan-partnering, sex-averse asexual who hopes to have my own wedding one day I was so excited to get the chance to see all of this and more in this little TV series.I don't relate to every single thing about this representation, of course - for one thing, I'm much more kissing-averse and sex-averse than Drea is. And I wish the show hadn't implied all aces don't have sex... there was just one line of Nicholas's that was utterly incorrect and frustrating, that all there would be to find when you search on the internet for nuance about asexuality is that "the person doesn't want to have sex" is just inaccurate and ridiculous. That's not. That's not all there is to it. But regardless, I forgive this amazing little series. I really, really do. That's what tends to happen, I watch a show for the ace rep, then... the character I relate to the most is usually not the ace character. This show is really fun but I stopped watching all the Arrowverse shows around 4 years ago not on purpose, it just sorta happened as my life got really busy and stuff. I always intended to catch up. This one I clearly had a bias in my vidding for Sara Lance lol... but... I actually like a lot of aspects of this show that I never vidded. I like this show a lot! Hopefully I'll get back to watching the rest of it one day. ;) I think these parts only have a little extra femslash energy because I was in a femslash collab group that needed me to vid that stuff for a couple of the collabs ;) And I like variety and vidding things no one else does.(As I upload each of these collab part compilations, I will also make sure I then update the fandom's line in my spreadsheet of my favorite pairings [both platonic and romantic].
