Chulip Any% (Emu) in 1:18:00 (w/o commentary)
updated
Couldn't edit the first 6 minutes out without youtube lowering the resolution, for whatever dumb reason.
If you want to catch my annual BD streams, I do my streaming here: @Otones
This was my test run of the Mural Belt Plus route, a big refinement of the original MB route from last year. This route's already out of date though, noticed some stuff shortly after this run that resulted in different strats being feasible, which led to removing the Ancient Forest visit, so expect another run soon. This might be the only Any% run that'll ever fight Land Shark C.
Good stuff:
- Gold drops were amazing the whole run, could've skipped the final selling and would've had plenty to spare
- Sai, Kesu, and Szabo went perfectly, Szabo in particular (that accidental Chest Laser skip...)
- Another trademark Eat-Yeet funny moment
- Perfect Rockwind Wolf Ghost fight
- Insanely good OHKO on Mechataclysm
- Perfect Destroy fight
Bad stuff:
- 2nd try Dinoram due to a crit
- Encounter with a ghost in Ancient Hospital, fast flee
- 2nd try King Ghost due to being too fast and me not playing accordingly
- Slow end of Dullahan fight, didn't skip Last Resort
- Ku and Mai were a bit slow
- An unfortunate Flying Mecha Robo spawn in the Ancient Factory, forced me to flee (I think Field Barrier might prevent this going forward?)
- Very slow War Mecha Robo fights
- Very slow Kelolon Grind, had to fight multiple smaller groups, mainly due to not noticing Stink had been healed
- Encounter with Horned-Viper Trident, fast flee
- Slow Grand Szabo
- Encounter with a Skimmer in Devour Forest, fast flee
- A very slow encounter with a Soyo-Soyo
- One of the worst Land Shark shooting segments I've had
- Really sloppy Laser Defenders with no 2-hits
- Kinda slow Sentry and Dynamo fights
- Got 1 Crimson Blood Rain from Pyro Dragon
- Sneezing Cyclops was a bit slow
- Missed MAU on Zola in Ultimate Szabo
- Kinda slow Nene
- Really slow end to Ultimate Nene after not getting MAU on Marumaro
Run starts at 1:36
First PB with the new Mural Belt route, really solid first half, terrible second half. Got a nice Disc 1 PB, but it all started crumbling after that Surprise Attack before Nene's Fortress, and then Jumbo happened...
Ended up bleeding 5m in the final bosses, will need to figure out how to avoid that when possible. Also need to make my menus a lot better, they were pretty bad this whole run.
Could have very easily been 15m or more faster, so I'll be aiming for sub 5:30 at the very least, ideally something close to 5:20. Any further than that I can't say, but a godly RTA run can definitely sub 5:10 now, which is insane.
Got a 10:43 just before this, glad I kept going... Not sure how to improve this route further, taking any more time off will probably be all about crazy optimization. The Taffly did fly around for a while after geting torched though, scared me for a second. Really happy with this one!
Not a bad run, but I did mess up at the end when I realized I couldn't get a Bluebell for the Reddhott variant, so I just planted some extra seeds and hoped for the best. Sub 11 is definitely doable, I'm more curious as to whether sub 10 is even remotely feasible.
Run starts at 1:20
After a huge amount of rerouting thanks to the realization that someone getting Double-Cast was actually viable, and eventually 3 party members reaching it, I managed to pull off another PB/WR exactly like the last one. I wanted to practice and derust and somehow ended up going all the way to sub 6 and then some, and with a very sub-par Disc 1 at that. The new Triple Double-Cast route is without a doubt faster and much safer than the older routes, and my final goal will now at the very least be getting sub 5:50, maybe even sub 5:40 or close to it.
As an aside, I think some frame drops happened in this recording due to the encoder overloading, but it's not that noticable.
Noteworthy time loss in Disc 1:
- Second try Dinoram due to me not paying attention...
- Winking Patroller was slow due to very unlucky turn order
- A very slow flee in the Undersea Caverns
- Fast second try King Ghost but horrible gold drop, loads of safety pickups
- Compost Poo Snake shenanigans during Lazy Bear skips
- Second try Heat-Wave Sai
Noteworthy time loss in Disc 2:
- Sub-par (17 attempts) Black Belt grind, considering we only need 3 now
- Having to fight a Kelolon separately and forgetting a menu again
- Kinda slow Jumbo Mecha Robo
Noteworthy time loss in Disc 3:
- Sloppy Mechat navigation
- Sloppy Mechat shooting segment
- Route flaw causing me to be a single medal short for final Toripo, Zola didn't get Double-Cast when intended and it slowed down the start of Primitive Cube a bit
Really broken with the Shovel gear.

My first offline Any% Emu attempt, and an unbelievably good run. This is easily one of the most optimal runs I've done of Chulip and of any game for that matter, and is better than my console Any% PB in multiple ways. Outstanding luck all around, solid execution, couldn't have gone much better. Only bad part is the court sequence, but it's pretty minor.
Definitely done with Any% until new skips or JP version competition comes around.
Here's the raw recording of the run without any restream commentary: youtu.be/nrBDM3oy3cM
End song is "I'm gonna make her mine" from Yakuza 0
It's all you Shadow! :^)
In the second section, the box that originally was used for the kerfuffle launch seems to be very receptive to the same launch setup as the one in the first section. As a result, the second section is much faster than with the previous no-ETD kerfuffle method.
Sub 1'30 is definitely possible, though extremely close to human perfection with the current strats.
Was an okay run overall, biggest mistake is about 10 seconds lost at MSG. Sub 9 is easily doable with AFCs in Crisis City and Wave Ocean.

As a measurement of how well I feel each story went, here's each ranked out of 10:
Sonic: 4/10
Silver: 7/10
Shadow: 5/10
Last: 6/10
I can definitely improve on this, and plan to in the future. It was a really fun race, though me doing Silver before Shadow did make it hard to follow exactly how well I was doing versus the others.
Luckily the bonk near the beginning doesn't matter since I have to wait for the blue swing anyway. Unfortunately it doesn't seem possible to get across the gap without it.

Missed the first hit only for it to give me an IL PB thanks to seeing the faster laser attack again, replacing one of the slightly longer attacks at the end. アリエンテ!
Time is from the last frame before the timer disappears.

I bonked at 0:44, but I don't think it mattered based on the red swing's cycle afterwards.

Sub 1 minute is doable on JP, and super doable on other versions assuming the load and retry cycles are the same.
