The new software features:
Accuracy has been significantly improved by implementing multi-wavelength calibration and a Polynomial regression data fit to compute wavelengths as precisely as possible across the measured range.
Full screen spectrometer display! On Raspberry Pi systems, the interface is designed to fit 800 x 480 screens, which seem to be a common resolution for RPi LCD's, paving the way for the creation of a stand alone benchtop instrument. (for example the HyperPixel 4.0, etc)
Waterfall display from measuring spectra changes over time
This uses readily available components and easy to use Python software I have written specially for this application.

In this video I have rebuilt a Domino D100+ Industrial Laser Coder/ marking head, and demonstrate some code to get it to do some engraving! This Laser uses the XY2-100 Protocol to drive the Galvos and modulate the Laser, so software and hardware is needed to get this to work. This Uses the awesome OpenGalvo OPAL library written by Daniel Olsson, and a PCB designed by me, to send standard Gcode which is then translated into XY2-100. This combination is suitable for driving other Galvo Scan heads such as the Sino-Galvo SG7110. F-engrave from the Linux CNC project is demonstrated to turn an image in to suitable G-Code for the machine. I engrave a few types of materials with it including Wood, Perspex and glass!

In this video I tear down a Domino D100+ Industrial Laser Coder! It has a high speed Galvo Scan head complete with all the amplifiers the drivers and Silicon mirrors, and beautiful Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) F-Theta lens. There is also a II-VI ZnSe Collimating lens and of course a 15W Synrad Carbon Dioxide Laser, with an unusual wavelength of 9.3 microns!

The RC differentiator (11:15, thanks "GermanMythbuster" for pointing that out!) is missing values on the Schematic The cap should be 22nf, and the resistor is 4k7.

These are of course non working, and in very poor physical condition, so I do a very in depth tear down on one, right down to the guts. Later I rebuild it, and hack on a good old fashioned Spark Gap switch to see if I can get some output.
This will be a two part video. Later I will build my own control electronics, and graft in a triggered spark gap. Stay Tuned!

A look inside an Industrial/Commercial Lasertechnik MNL-100 Nitrogen Laser! This is a beautiful piece of Laser engineering, and uses solid state switches as opposed to spark gaps or thyratrons! I hack up a fibre optic RS-232 interface and use the manufacturers software to control it. I also use a made Fibre coupling lens assembly and pump a home made Dye Laser with it.
This particular version is rated at 140uJ (51 kW peak power) at 24Hz

DIY home made quick and dirty Helium Neon laser power supply! A quick and dirty power supply for a Helium Neon laser, made from a ZVS driver, and an old monitor Flyback Transformer.
With 15v input at 2 amps, this will provide on off load voltage of ~6kV (enough to strike the tube) and when the tube is struck this drops to 2500v at 6mA

I was going to do another Nitrogen Laser video, as I have spent the week finishing off a bigger and better one, but I have just run out of Nitrogen! In this video I demonstrate an aged Spectra Physics Mutiline Argon Ion Laser. This thing is well past its serviceable life and can be hard to start, but can still put out over 50mW of multiline goodness.

In this video, I show a Commercial Dye Laser, the LSI DCM laser I picked up from eBay. This is pumped by my now refurbished LSI 337i Nitrogen Laser.
Dye Lasers are really col devices that produce laser light from the Ultraviolet - visible - the Infra-red. The re tunable as well!

This video covers the High voltage Power supply I use to power my Nitrogen Lasers! This supply is capable of generating 30,000v (more with some improvement) and uses a ZVS driver at it's core. The BA63 display is the kind of display you are familiar with a supermarket checkouts and can be had quite cheaply off of eBay.
In this video, I hack a BA63 Vacuum Fluorescent display to be driven directly by a Raspberry Pi Zero W using a bit of Python. I show how to connect these up and go through show you the process of pulling my python code off github and explain how the scripts work.
I have produced a number of sample Python scripts to drive these displays that do things such as: Display Text Clock that displays time, date and Unix time. Scroll text (various types) Larson scanner Clock that displays time, date, and Unix time.

In this video, I show three of my high performance designs for Home made TEA nitrogen Lasers.
Although Nitrogen Lasers are quite simple to build, they are difficult to build well. My first ever TEA Laser was held together with gravity and glue. The ones demonstrated here are worlds away from those first attempts!
The two Charge Transfer Lasers demonstrated, have high repetition rates, high output powers (peak and average) and are robust, with many thousands of shots possible before the dielectric has to be replaced.

The Raspberry Pi 4 can be made to work with the Google Coral for a killer AI combination! This combo an easily give your AI or robotics project the edge when it comes to object detection and machine learning!
This video discusses the installation script for Google Coral software on the RPi4 and also demonstrates two Live object detection scripts using MobileNet-SSD.
Amazing framerates and detection speed is possible with this combination!

Got my Google Coral this morning and tried it on the Raspberry Pi 4. And the script failed with "Need To Be Root". As with the Intel Neural Compute stick, the installer needs some fixes.
After a little bit of digging around at how everything works, I have edited the installation script that comes with the Coral, and now everything works just fine!

The Coral works impressively well with the Raspberry Pi 4! The Device seems as fast if not faster that Intel's offering (I have not bench-marked it). What I can say for certain is that the documentation for the Coral is excellent, easier to use than the NCS2, and there is even documentation on how to retrain models.Raspberry pi 4 Image recognition OpenVINO OpenCV NCS2Les Lab2019-06-29 | A quick video showing image recognition on the Raspberry pi 4! Currently it runs with 40 fps video,around 32 fps inferencing, and a detection rate of around 100 per second on a single NCS2! This is plenty to do some sensible video image recognition. I am sure with 2 sticks this thing will really sing. No more USB2 bottlenecks!

About OpenVINO:
Intel do not appear to have released updated code yet for the RPi4, and the current code won't run on Raspbian 10 Buster without some modifications. I have detailed these here:

The Beer bottle following robot part two! Updates include moving motor control to a separate process, increasing 'snappiness' Introduction of a 'hunt' mode, where if the target moves out of view, the robot does a sweep of the room for it.

Raspberry Pi3 and Intel neural compute stick 2. This runs in Python using OpenCV using the Mobilenet-SSD model. Code will appear on github shortly once I have done something more sensible with the steering algorithm.
