Hi everyone! I just finished reading “1Q84” by Haruki Murakami; this is the LONGEST book I have ever read, at over 1300 pages! Even though 1Q84 is technically a trilogy, I’m counting it as a single book. This was my first venture into Haruki Murakami’s work; I’d heard it was a bit on the weird side, but that didn’t deter me. I’d wanted to read 1Q84 for a while as I assumed it was a retelling of “1984” by George Orwell, a book which I thoroughly enjoy and feel is a very important piece of work. So, after all that, what did I think of Murakami’s 1Q84? Tune in to find out!

Hi everyone! Today I’m bringing you another Percy Jackson discussion video, concerning something that has always bothered me, right since the very first book: why want the Lotus Hotel & Casino shut down after Percy’s encounter with it? It seems like the Lotus Eaters are the ONLY “baddies” that Percy (or any other protagonist in the wider canon) encounters without defeating or at least preventing them from continuing to cause trouble. At the time it’s understandable given the time-sensitive situation they were in, but what about after the dust has settled? It turns out that this quandary is more complex than it may initially seem… ——-

Hi everyone! After reading book 4 in Rick Riordan’s Trials of Apollo series, “The Tyrant’s Tomb”, there was one plot point that left me…unsatisfied, and that was the tale of one of the book’s main characters, Lavinia Asimov. Perhaps due to her appearance being so far into the Percy Jackson canon, she is rarely talked about, yet I believe this character’s circumstances and story parallel the real struggles of many disabled people, especially children, placed in environments that don’t suit them, without a second thought. Hence, I believe Lavinia is a character and story worth highlighting. ——-

Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing Rick Riordan’s “Trials of Apollo” series. This is the third series set in Riordan’s Percy Jackson world, following Percy Jackson & the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus. This series stars the Sun god Apollo, who has fallen from grace and must earn his godhood back. A lot of Percy Jackson fans, at least in my experience, have not yet read or completed this series, and until recently I was one of them. Is there a reason for this, or are we missing out by skipping it? ——-

I’m 24 years old as of posting this, and although I read a wide variety of different types of books, including some definitely NOT for kids, I still find enjoyment, fun and meaning in reading books aimed at people half my age. Why? Well, hopefully after watching this video you’ll come away with a greater appreciation for children’s books and an open mind regarding what they have to offer to the adult reader!

Hi everyone! Today I bring you my review of two books by Michael Morpurgo, author of many lovely animal stories. More specifically, I discuss “War Horse”, a novel about a cavalry horse during World War 1 which was adapted into a film, and its lesser-known sequel, “Farm Boy”, which sheds light on what happened after the end of War Horse, and the effect it had in modern day. I also reveal a neat bit of history behind these books, which heightened my appreciation of them upon learning about it!

BORROW the ones you can’t.
Hi everyone! In this video, primarily aimed at fans of Amazon Kindles and other ebook readers, I’ll be going over some CHEAL or even better, FREE, and 100% LEGAL sources of reading material you might not have considered before! Why should you make an effort to KICK THE KINDLE? Because, believe it or not, you do NOT, in fact, own “your” kindle (or other digital) books that you PAID FOR! Absurd, right? You paid for access, but that access can be revoked at any time! So, I’ll explain why you should wean yourself off the kindle, and suggest a plethora of sources of reading material, including digital books, physical books, new books, secondhand books, printed books, audiobooks. Most importantly, the only pair books on this list are ones that YOU OWN FOREVER. Anything else is FREE.

Hi everyone! Following my completion and reviews of “Psyche and Eros” by Luna McNamara and “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus, I was having some…mixed feelings. The books weren’t…bad, per se, but there WAS definitely one commonality between them that genuinely bothered me: how these two books approached the subject of feminism and applied this to their female protagonists, both of whom were pursuing stereotypically masculine goals, and the other characters and situations they were exposed to. So I made this video to expand on my thoughts which sprung out of last week’s reviews, articulate the issues I found, how the ways in which books like these handle feminism can actually be harmful to the cause, and what can be done from a storytelling standpoint to avoid these issues.

Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing “Lessons in Chemistry”, a pretty popular book on Booktube and BookTok, and one of the most popular “STEMinist” books in general, it seems. I read this book for the 2024 Dymocks Reading Challenge, for the female author prompt, for which this book seemed to be a rather appropriate choice. But is this book worth all that hype? And more importantly, is it effective at conveying the still-relevant themes of feminism, women’s rights, and women in STEM?

Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing “Psyche and Eros” by Luna McNamara, a feminist retelling of the Greek myth of Eros, the Greek god of desire, and his wife Psyche. I read this book for the Dymocks Reading Challenge, for the prompt “Whirlwind Romance” (which funnily enough, is actually kind of literal in the case of this book!). So, does this book, as the cover proclaims, turn this seldom-retold Greek myth into the greatest love story ever told? Or did Eros’s arrow of love miss its mark on this one? ——-

Hi everyone! Today I finished “The Long Walk”, written by Stephen King, originally under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. This is the second short novel in his collection The Bachman Books. It’s an American dystopian story about teenagers competing to the death - published nearly 30 years before The Hunger Games. Fun fact - apparently the story itself is even older, buying the first novel Stephen King wrote even though it wasn’t the first he actuwlly published! ——-

Hi everyone! This is my review of “Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus” by Chuck Tingle, a very meta parody of Harry Potter, featuring smokin’ hot dinosaurs, evil sentient motorbikes, and a whole lot more typical Tingle craziness! After discovering the existence of this book through YouTube, I wanted to check it out out of curiosity. What happens to all those crazy characters? How much shade does Chuck Tingle throw JK Rowling’s way? Is this silly-looking parody even readable - let alone good??? Tune in to find out!

Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing the hilarious cozy crime sensation, Richard OSMAN’S Thursday Murder Club series! The series is incomplete as of making this video, however Richard Osman is taking a break from it to work on other projects, so now that I’m all caught up with it it seemed as good a time as any to review it in its current state. This series follows four eccentric, loveable old folks living in a retirement village who spend their days solving murders and, uh, “helping” the police (read: doing the police’s job for them!), getting into All manner of mischief and mayhem in the process! ——-

In this video I discuss Stephen King’s out of print novel “Rage”. Stephen King originally wrote Rage under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, and when Bachman was eventually revealed to be Stephen King, it was included in his anthology “The Bachman Books”. However, for reasons as discussed in the video, Rage was taken out of print, by the author’s own wishes. This video summarises the plot of Rage, explains the circumstances of its creation and why Stephen King came to not want it around anymore, and uses this case study to discuss book censorship and whether it can ever be justifiable. ——- My review of “The Long Walk”, aldo featured in The Bachmann Books youtu.be/f90Zr17Q3ew?si=6HxyuCc73Z9SOY8A

Hi everyone! In this video I’ll explain why these books are so underrated compared to the rest of Andy Griffiths’ books and why I still love them today as an adult. Just make sure not to fall out of any windows before the video’s over, okay?

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my TIER LIST of everything I read last year! Make sure to watch part 1 first if you haven’t already!
This video is perhaps a bit overdue but for some reason it took me til now to figure out how to go through EVERYTHING I read in 2023 without having to physically get all the books out-that would be a huge logistical nightmare as there are over a hundred of them! However, since I started booktube so late in the year, you guys didn’t get to find out most of what I read last year, so I felt it was necessary to show you somehow. So, we’re doing a tier list! Which books are GOD TIER, and which just SHOULD NOT EXIST? Tune in to find out!

——- Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing the gothic, mythological medical masterpiece that is “The Resurrectionist” by E.B. Hudspeth, a book featuring the fictional biography of Dr Spencer Black, who tries to recreate and showcase mythical creatures as if they really existed. This book also contains a plethora of anatomical diagrams of the said mythological creatures, and is thus as much a work of art as of literature. As a huge mythology fan I had to check it out!
