Car thief runs down cops while escaping The Mob Reporter 2024-05-03 | A man has been arrested and charged while his buddy is a fugitive after a police officer in Canada was run down by a vehicle during an auto theft investigation in Toronto.On April 30, 2024, at about 7:30 a.m., investigators with the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit and the Integrated Property Crime Task Force located two stolen vehicles in the area of Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive. With assistance from the sniffer dogs, officers moved to arrest two suspects. One man was arrested after a short foot chase. The second man got into an SUV and drove at police, hitting both a police vehicle and an officer. The suspect crashed the SUV into a building nearby and fled on foot.The officer was not seriously injured. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was released a short time later. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with my news on the U.S. Department of Justice’s sweeping cross-border cocaine and meth smuggling investigations called Operation Dead Hand, and particularly of the informant at the epicentre of it all — how he was recruited, what he did, and his incredible meetings with accused Mexican drug lords, American traffickers, and Canadian mobsters. Think about that for a moment.The traffickers used Signal, an encrypted messaging app. End-to-end encryption can be great at holding secrets, but not if one of the ends is compromised. Every text, every phone call, every photo he sent or received was collected by the FBI.Two related federal indictments named 19 people accused of running the dope north, using a network of long-haul truck drivers as couriers to get it across the U.S.-Canada border. 15 of them were arrested. Four more, two of them accused Mexican narcos, were named as wanted fugitives.One network allegedly had a leadership tier of Eduardo Carvajal, 50, of Guadalajara, Mexico; Jesus Ruiz Sandoval Jr., 45, of Guadalajara, Mexico; John Joe Soto, 42, of Guadalajara, Mexico; and Roberto Scoppa, 55, of Montreal, Canada.Scoppa shares a notorious family name. His brothers Andrea (Andrew) Scoppa and Salvatore Scoppa were influential Mafia leaders in Montreal before they were killed in 2019 during a mob war.The other network was allegedly run from Canada by Guramrit Sidhu, 60, of Brampton, northwest of Toronto. Under them, the FBI alleges, were an assortment of Canadian truckers and U.S. distributors. One man from Long Beach, California, identified by the FBI as Carlos Barragan allegedly worked for both rings. Now, you need to know that I obtained U.S. documents that were recently unsealed in court, including grand jury indictments and lengthy affidavits sworn by FBI agents that summarize their operations. The allegations contained in the documents have not yet been tested in court. None of the accused have yet had an opportunity to mount their defence in court, and one of their lawyers cautioned me that, quote, “The allegations are not necessarily accurate in all respects.”The secret double life of the snitch officially ended on Jan. 30, 2024, when a press conference was called in Los Angeles to reveal Operation Dead Hand. By then search warrants and arrest warrants had been executed in California, Florida, Texas, Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta. The five arrested in Canada face extradition to the United States. In California, those in custody started making appearances in court. Narco chemist making cocaine look like wood flooring🔥 The Mob Reporter 2024-01-14 | Believe it or not, this black tile is cocaine. It’s coke that has been chemically concocted to look like it’s part of exotic hardwood flooring. Somebody went to a lot of trouble trying to smuggle it out of South America. Now they are in a lot of trouble. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of an ingenious narco plot to move almost nine tonnes of coke into Europe that failed when it was snagged at a border checkpoint in the Andes Mountains. And stick around, because this case comes with something special for my suspicious viewers who always ask: What do cops really do with all that coke after they seize it? Well, they burn it — in this case at least — under the watchful eye of the United Nations.** PLEASE TAP THE THANKS BUTTON TO SEND ME A TIP.It was New Year’s Eve — Dec. 31, 2023 — when the dope was found, cleverly hidden in a shipment of wooden floor tiles. The day before, a heavy transport truck loaded down with wood for export lumbered into the customs checkpoint at Tambo Quemado, between Bolivia and Chile. It was supposed to take it to a seaport in northern Chile, where the wood was scheduled to be shipped by sea, through the Panama Canal to Belgium, and then to the Netherlands, where it would have been worth half a billion dollars, authorities said. This wasn’t the typical way drugs are hidden in wood; typically powder, crystals or bricks are jammed into hollow wood boards then glued shut. This was something else entirely, something far more devious. This was chemically altered to make to look like a rubbery tile underpad beneath each plank or tile. It’s clever camouflage. Bolivian authorities were very specific about how much cocaine they found: 8,776 kilograms and 200 grams. It’s a lot for one load, even in South America. It was a big enough deal for the president of Bolivia to announce the seizure calling it the largest coke find in the country’s history.Four were arrested. Three are Bolivian and one Colombian. The Colombian was the main guy, authorities allege, responsible for mixing the cocaine into its unique form. He was described as an engineer who specializes in resins. He was called the “big shot” in this case. Under arrest alongside him were the truck driver, the alleged owner of the shipment, and the owner of the Bolivian wood export company. The government didn’t want all that tempting dope hanging about long. Just four days after announcing the stunning find they hauled it to a remote field in a mountainous suburb, stacked it all up again — and torched it.Transparency is a great policy and process to follow, especially because the Bolivian government needed to show the world it was a tough-on-narcos regime active in the war on drugs. In September, you see, Bolivia was named and shamed by U.S. President Joe Biden ; the U.S. declared Bolivia a major drug producing country that failed to meet its obligations under international counternarcotics agreements. Albanian coke kings lose 12 tons 🇦🇱 The Mob Reporter 2023-12-17 | Never before have you seen so much coke in one place. More than 12 tons of cocaine bricks were seized from the most powerful drug barons in Europe — that’s Albanian narcos, also called the Balkan cartel. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with details on the operations that not only captured 12 tons of South American cocaine, but also 20 of the people alleged to be behind it.The enormous haul arrived from South America in two shipments. The largest of the seizures weighed more than 8 tons, equivalent to 7.5 metric tonnes, packed in the center of shipping pallets and surrounded by frozen tuna. The businessman accused in this caper has companies registered in the province of A Coruña. The company’s name is Spanish for Blue Sea. More like white tide. Police say it was likely planned to feed the increased demand for cocaine over the Christmas and New Years holidays. It landed in the Port of Algeciras at the mouth of the Strait of Gibraltar, and then shipped to Vigo, in Spain’s northwest, aboard a cargo ship registered in Liberia. The containers were then hauled 90 miles north by truck, to an industrial warehouse in Cambre. The smaller of the two seizures announced this week — almost four tons, or 3.5 metric tonnes — arrived at Spain’s eastern port of Valencia. And although less than half the size, in some ways it’s more interesting. The cocaine was hidden in secret compartments specially built into shipping containers. It was moved to a warehouse in Xirivella. The gangsters were cautious. Cops raided the warehouse, the restaurant, and stopped circling counter-surveillance vehicles. The cocaine originated in Colombia and likely packed for Europe at Guayaquil, a port in Ecuador. Most of those arrested are Albanians, police say. There were also a few Spaniards, a Colombian and a Dominican.Police say the Balkan gangs, Albanians first among them, are the cocaine kings of Europe, now. Accused crime boss all smiles under arrest 😁 The Mob Reporter 2023-12-13 | Alleged senior crime boss Masood Zakaria was hauled back to Australia in chains, where he was a most-wanted man after fleeing to Turkey just before a police task force was about to raid his home to arrest him. He was all smiles when he landed. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of the latest big fish caught in the net of international cooperation — the inglorious, enforced return of a fugitive; an immense man, physically, yes, but more importantly immensely influential, police say, in a hyperactive underworld where billions are up for grabs.Police say the 28-year-old Masood Zakaria is a key man in one of Australia’s most dangerous and powerful crime syndicates, known as the Alameddine.He is pegged as the Alameddine’s Number 2 man. He seems to be at the center of Sydney’s underworld, friends with members of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club, the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, and street gangs, including the KVT gang. The gangland war has been costly, including a feud with rival crime family known as the Hamzy clan, sometimes spelled Hamze. The rivals revolved around Bassam Hamzy, who has been locked up since 1999. Zakaria is now charged with conspiracy to murder. The target, police say, was Ibrahem Hamze. Zakaria was arrest in Bodrum, Turkey, now spelled as Türkiye. After fighting hie deportation, he was put on a plane to Darwin, Australia, and then flown to Sydney, where he faces serious charges. He was paraded through Sydney airport, as reporters asked him questions, which he answered only with a smile and a chuckle. He has a good game face. America FINALLY grabs slippery global MS-13 boss The Mob Reporter 2023-11-25 | It’s easy to understand why this notorious international leader of the MS-13 gang prefers being called El Crook de Hollywood on the street. His real name is Elmer. Élmer Canales Rivera. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news on the ups and downs of a man named as one of the baddest hombres of a bad bunch, a top shot caller for a gang declared public enemy number one by the White House, who was recently found and arrested in Mexico, and then whisked onto a plane to America, where he was arrested by the FBI when he landed in Texas.On Nov. 15, 2023, El Crook was formally transferred to New York, where he and others face charges linked to MS-13’s sprawling criminal activities over two decades in the United States, Mexico, El Salvador, and elsewhere. You know you’re a badass when there’s bullet holes right behind your police mug shot. Crook is accused of being a founding member of the Ranfla Nacional, the global leadership body of the Mara Salvatrucha, the formal name of the MS-13.El Crook’s arrest is more important than most gang busts, however. He is a highly sensitive subject in the Central American country of El Salvador. And here’s why. He was in prison in El Salvador when the United States unsealed an indictment for him in January 2021. He had been behind bars for 20 years on a murder beef when American authorities lodged an Interpol red notice and an extradition request for El Crook to the government of El Salvador. In November 2021, however, something happened.Instead of being turned over to the U.S., El Crook was suddenly and mysteriously released from prison and whisked across the border to Guatemala and disappeared. At that time, the president of El Salvador was — and still is — Nayib Bukele. You might recall that El Salvador’s president has become globally famous lately for his unprecedented crackdown on El Salvador’s street gangs. But now it isn’t just opposition critics and journalists saying this. The United States government says it’s true as well. The New York indictment of El Crook says he led the MS-13’s negotiations with the government of El Salvador starting in 2012. It gets worse. U.S. prosecutors say they will prove at trial that high-level Salvadoran government officials escorted El Crook out of prison, put him up in a luxury apartment, gave him a gun, and then drove him to the border where arrangements were made with a human trafficker to smuggle him into Guatemala. His trial in New York, prosecutors say, will feature evidence from more than a dozen former MS-13 members, wiretaps, phone records, and confidential informants. This will be one to watch. For prosecutors, this catch is a real Turkish Delight.Let me tell you about it.The Turks called it Operation Cage when it was unveiled in two waves, one on Nov. 2, and the other on Nov. 5, 2023. The Turks netted some big fish; 42 suspects in all, several of them wanted in countries in three continents. Many are members and associates of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club, called Australia’s number one criminal threat. Seven were named in Interpol Red Notices, which are reserved for fugitive wanted for serious crime.The best known of this bunch is Hakan Ayık. He’s notorious in the underworld, because of his social media photos. He became notorious Down Under as the so-called “Facebook Gangster” after news media started revealing self-indulgent social media photos, often shirtless and flexing, surrounded by signs of wealth and beauty. In Turkey he changed his name to Harkan Reis.Another big fish netted in Turkey is Duax Ngakuru. He is said to have assumed the title Supreme Commander of the Comanchero after biker boss Mark Buddle was arrested in Northern Cyprus, taken to Turkey and then flown to Australia last year. The headliner for the second wave of arrests was Maximilian Rivkin. Rivkin was also allegedly neck deep in the ANOM encryption business. America and Sweden offered a $5-million reward for his capture. Thousands of mobsters, bikers, narcos, money launderers around the world were tricked into using AN0M, a phone system claiming unbreakable privacy. More than two years I fingered Natalie Mottram as the leak that shut down the global operation that was secretly listening in on conversations that gangsters thought were private. Now we know I was right. Natalie admitted it all in court.While working on a police task force she was blabbing its secrets to criminal friends — a huge secret, in fact, revealing that EncroChat, an encrypted phone system used by gangsters in many countries, had been penetrated by law enforcement agencies who were now monitoring the supposedly private underworld communications. Her snitching ended the whole operation. EncroChat was a high-tech, seemingly impenetrable, encrypted phone system. Gangsters thought their communications were forever secret, anonymous and untraceable. After years of work, police in France managed to place a hacking tool into the servers EncroChat used. A collaboration of French and Dutch investigators, that later included British police, began a highly secretive operation of monitoring millions of messages and images.It unlocked a door to a vast criminal underworld. And Natalie Mottram slammed it shut again. The National Crime Agency, known as the NCA, which is Britain’s version of the FBI, coordinated the U.K.’s end of the EncroChat exploit, codenamed Operation Venetic. It started drawing data from the secret hack on April 1, 2020. It took only about three weeks for Natalie to blab about it. Natalie, now 24, is from Warrington, an English town halfway between Manchester and Liverpool. She was working as a civilian intelligence researcher at the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit. By April 24, 2020, Natalie had already told Jonathan Kay, a criminally connected friend, about the police penetration. He told others and warnings messages were sent to other users. The leak was disastrous for police operations in several countries. Police traced the leak to Natalie and she was arrested June 12, 2020, but not before she again alerted Kay and others. One of those pinched, is alleged Hells Angels Motorcycle Club chapter president Mustafa Hafizi of the Chinatown chapter. His dignified arrest contrasts with a previous capture, embarrassingly caught on police video and released publicly. His theatrics were called an “Oscar-worthy performance.” Hafizi’s co-accused is alleged Hells Angels associate and professional boxer Willis Meehan. He goes by the ring name The Hitman. He once played in the National Rugby League, signed to the Sydney Roosters. The six-foot-five southpaw quickly earned a name as a most promising boxer with impressive win after win. After 12 professional bouts he remained undefeated, winning 10 by knockout, courtesy of his powerful punch. Hells Angels richest chapters host huge party 🏍 The Mob Reporter 2023-07-25 | There is a lot of popular mythology about outlaw bikers — including legends of the biker club party. Some of the richest chapters of the Hells Angels, the largest and most notorious outlaw biker club, displayed its version as it celebrated their 40th anniversary. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with a look at the roaring celebrations of the major milestone for the first Hells Angels chapters in British Columbia, on Canada’s picturesque west coast. More than 300 Hells Angels members, select guests and supporters gathered at a sprawling Angels’ clubhouse this weekend to kick off a series of events, rides and parties. There were large tents, a pounding live band playing songs by Black Sabbath, Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd; there was eating and drinking drinking, meeting and greeting, a helium balloon truck, and awards. To ensure some mystery, they covered their gate to block prying eyes. The party on Saturday, July 23, 2023, at the White Rock chapter’s clubhouse in Langley, B.C., is believed to be the largest single gather of the HA the province has seen. There were representatives of Hells Angels from many chapters, across Canada and likely a few international guests. An original B.C. Hells Angel arrived to a warm reception: 78-year-old Rick Ciarniello, a veteran of Canada’s biker scene who was the often a club spokesman. Colombias drug-sniffing dogs are far too good The Mob Reporter 2023-07-08 | Frustrated South American narcos are targeting drug-sniffing police dogs. How cold is that? Police in Colombia held a funeral for a talented detector dog who died after investigating a suspicious shipment at a port on the Caribbean Sea. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of Kenia, a five-year-old Belgium Shepherd who had previously sniffed out more than 12 tons of cocaine. That kind of weight will hurt any cartel. And it seems the narcos got their revenge.In Colombia, they take their dogs seriously and treat them like comrades not tools. They give them medals and service awards, they host retirement ceremonies, and, sadly, funerals. Kenia was poisoned, police say. The scene of the crime was the Port of Santa Marta on Colombia’s north coast, a large, commercial port on the Caribbean Sea, in a beautiful region in a broken country. Kenia and her handler were inspecting cargo that was tainted with cocaine and other highly toxic substances, police said.At the same time, another detector dog is under around the clock security after being threatened by narcos. That dog’s name is Killer, a golden retriever who works as an anti-narcotics dog for the Sixth Brigade of the National Army in Colombia’s mountainous region of Tolima. Detector dogs are wonderous things. They can sniff out all sorts of secret stuff, from insects and electronics to guns and drugs. A few years ago, the Clan del Golfo, a powerful drug cartel put a $70,000 bounty on the head of Sombra, a German Shepherd who had uncovered nine tons of cocaine and flagged 245 traffickers for arrest. Billion Dollar Cocaine Bust — High Stakes Sting on the High Seas The Mob Reporter 2023-06-17 | Cartel shenanigans moving product across oceans to one of its hottest markets reveals an evolution in the global movement of bulk cocaine — as well as high seas drama from cops trying to stop it. Police in Australia say their case began in May with an intelligence tip that a bulk cargo carrier was heading to the Western Australian coast with a large load of cocaine. As police were monitoring marine traffic looking for suspect ships, there was an emergency rescue call from a small boat in distress; with three men onboard it floundered 13 miles off Australia’s west coast. When police learned the men had bought the boat with cash just hours before setting out to sea — with only themselves as the makeshift, inexperienced crew, it was a substantial red flag. Police suspected they were trying to connect with the incoming cargo ship. Officers looked for likely ships in the area at the time the cabin cruiser set sail. One stood out: The St. Pinot. It left South America a month before. The day after the rescue of the cabin cruiser, Australian Border Force officers intercepted the St. Pinot at sea. A Royal Australian Navy dive team retrieved 29 packages wrapped in blue plastic that were submerged in a water-filled ballast tank.These alleged narcos were apparently not frightened off by startling revelations of a large international caper that played out in the same waters. Nearly a billion dollars’ worth of coke was seized by U.S. authorities off the coast of South America in November. The DEA realized buyers in Australia would have no idea the load had been nabbed. Police made replicas of the illicit load, and pushed it overboard off the coast of Perth. Police then secretly watched to see who came to fetch it. Two boats arrived and started loading the parcels. Nine men were arrested in a series of raids on hotels and a marina around Perth on New Year’s Eve. Meth-Filled Mixers: Inside Shocking Smuggling Operation 🍕 The Mob Reporter 2023-05-14 | A trafficking syndicate smuggling product in dough mixing machines from Canada to Australia were caught in an embarrassing sting — sending them into a frantic panic, dumping their goods in the woods. But it was too late. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of a significant smuggling operation that spanned continents — but only one end of it is has been unravelled, leaving half of it so far untouched. Two of the massive mixers were caught at Toronto international airport. Canada’s border agents found them stuffed with ice for their journey to Australia. Canada’s federal police were called in and they contacted Australia’s federal police and between them they concocted a sting. The content of both mixers was seized and replaced with fakes. It was then sent on its way. When it got to Australia, they were delivered while secretly monitored by police. It worked like a charm. The smugglers were rattled and panicked. Six were arrested. One has ties to the Rebels Motorcycle Club, a made-in-Australia outlaw biker club, another to Asian organized crime. One was a freight forwarding company employee. During the raids, officers seized more than $1.5 million in cash. But there is no indication the Canadian end has been touched. It seems they might still be in the mix. Unraveling Mystery of $20m Airport Gold Heist ✈️ 🧱 Gone in a Blink: The Mob Reporter 2023-04-30 | There was a baffling airport gold heist worth $20 million in Toronto, Canada — and it looks like the crew got away clean. It’s a story of secret tunnels, high-finance, subterfuge and corruption. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with my investigation of this month’s perplexing score of a lifetime — a high-value shipment of gold and other assets that had just arrived on a flight from Switzerland. It was unloaded on the runway by Brink’s security. To get to a cargo holding facility, the Brink’s truck drove through a long tunnel beneath the runways as a secure shortcut to the other side of the airport. The tunnel is 560-metres long — that’s more than 1,800 feet. There is no public access, and it begins and ends inside the secure red zone of the airport. They took it to a cargo warehouse to clear customs.Then the shipment disappeared. Just gone, gone, gone. Nothing suggests it was a stick-em-up robbery or strong-arm heist. Everything suggests it was an inside job. The shipment was destined for a large Canadian bank, I’m told TD Bank. Somehow, it made it out in the wrong hands. Someone needed to know ahead of time what was in the shipment and when and where it was landing. Someone needed a crew, resources, and huge balls to scoop it. Someone needed to gather resources to move it, dispose of it. That’s a lot of someones. One security expert I spoke with even suggested it might have required a fake Brink’s truck and fake guards in fake Brink’s uniforms. There’s a good chance the gold has already been melted down to thwart identification. A Floating Island of Cocaine Found Off Sicilys Coast The Mob Reporter 2023-04-22 | They’ve discovered another cocaine island — this one was two tons of bricks found floating in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Sicily, the birthplace of the Mafia, which is no stranger to upscale crime, but this discovery raises eyebrows even there. Let me tell you about it.The Mob reporter here with quick news of $430 million dollars’ worth of coke that was just bobbing about in the sun and the surf — and this isn’t the first time. This the third coke island in as many years.More than 70 floating parcels were spotted in the sea, held together by netting and aloft by life vests as it bounced about in the waves — ready and waiting for someone to come and collect it. But someone else got there first. Finders’ keepers, I suppose. The startling flotsam was announced April 17, 2023, found off Sicily’s east coast, in the Ionian Sea, on the Mediterranean. That puts it in the water near Sicily, home of the Cosa Nostra Mafia and Calabria, home of the ‘Ndrangheta Mafia. Either one of those organizations are more than capable of moving this kind of weight.It was purposely dropped into the water by a passing cargo ship, investigators say, left behind to be collected by others, using smaller vessels, such as fishing boat or yacht, and then smuggled ashore for distribution. Authorities say it was spotted during coastal monitoring between Catania, Sicily’s second largest city at the base of Mount Etna, the famous volcano, and Syracuse to the south, which is the birthplace of Archimedes, considered the greatest mathematician of the ancient world.It is one of the largest single seizures in Italy. The last cocaine island we saw was off found in the South Pacific Ocean in February. Interestingly, that one featured the Batman logo. That was bigger than the Italian job. There were three and a half tons recovered by the New Zealand navy. Police estimated it was enough to supply all of Australia for a year. And is more than is typically sold in New Zealand over 30 years. What a thing to lose. A third coke float was about to be released off the coast of England in September 2021. It was codenamed Operation Whale. Two tons of bricks in waterproof duffle bags were hauled across the Atlantic aboard a private luxury super yacht and the narcos’ plan was to hold it afloat with 100 life vests they had onboard. El Salvadors mind-blowing gang purge 🤯 The Mob Reporter 2023-04-02 | The president of El Salvador launched an unprecedented war on the gangs that have long plagued the Central American country, arresting an astounding 65,000 suspects and building a huge new prison to hold them. It is astonishing to see. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of the state of emergency declared one year ago, that allows special powers to root out street gangs that controlled many Salvadoran communities. They publicize the strict crackdown with in-your-face images, turning the strong-arm tactic into a slick, publicity campaign. Finding 1.5 tons of buried coke The Mob Reporter 2023-03-29 | Police in Colombia unburied more than 1.5 tons of cocaine that was hidden underground. The huge stash of tightly wrapped, pressed bricks was found in a cove buried by soil outside of a house in a rural area in Nariño, in the west of the country, near Colombia’s border with Ecuador.Police say it was buried by traffickers while waiting to send it abroad. Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the Colombian National Police said two men were arrested who were guarding the shipment that totalled 1,552 kilos.Colombia is the largest exporter of coke, according to the United Nations. The national police force said it has seized more than 65 tons of coke so far in 2023 — that’s a lot. But other government agencies have seized a lot as well. The Colombian Navy said it has seized 56 tons this year. Clear there is a lot of it being manufactured. Death on a narco-sub: Terrifying discovery during underwater cocaine smuggling The Mob Reporter 2023-03-25 | Ever wonder if it’s safe crammed into a homemade narco-submarine, sharing limited space only with other narcos and tons of coke? Now we know: it’s not. When Colombia’s navy intercepted this narco-sub in the Pacific, inside they found three tons of cocaine, and two dead narco-sailors. A narcosub was spotted in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Colombia. Inside they found 2,643 kilos of cocaine tightly pressed into waterproof bricks — which was anticipated — and then something that was unexpected: Two bodies of narco-submariners. The Colombian military caught at least six narco subs over two weekends. Some were caught off Colombia’s Pacific coast and some off its Caribbean coast. Two were found in a blackmarket shipyard, along with anticipated cargo.Around the same time as Colombians examining their narcosub haul, off the western coast of Spain, in an area known as a smuggler’s paradise, fishermen spotted this: a narco sub seemingly adrift.Only the sub’s front tip was visible, as it floated almost vertically. Like an iceberg, most of its 50-foot length was underwater. It was found in the Ría de Arousa off the Atlantic coast in Galicia. They refloated the sub and towed it to a nearby port. There they had a good look at it, inside and out. Narcosubs are popping up more often, in more places. It seems global transit of bulk cocaine is undergoing another transformation, away from shipping containers arriving at major ports, or at least greater diversification towards increased underwater navigation. Mafia Bosss Incredible Prison Break: Bed Sheets and Inside Help The Mob Reporter 2023-03-04 | A Mafia boss made a daring escape from a maximum-security prison by climbing down a rope ladder made from bed sheets — becoming the first inmate to ever escape prison on an island in the Mediterranean. Let me tell you about it.The Mob Reporter here with news of Marco Raduano, an Italian Mafia boss who escaped while awaiting trial on murder charges. His escape from Badu 'e Carros, an old-school prison on the island of Sardinia, in the Mediterranean Sea, was on Feb. 24, 2023. Raduano, 39, nicknamed “Pallone,” is man of Sacra Corona Unita, a crime group in southern Italy’s Apulia region. It’s often called the “fourth Mafia,” because it is similar in form to the older and better-known Italian Mafias — the Cosa Nostra of Sicily, ‘Ndrangheta of Calabria and Camorra of Napoli.Raduano worked in the prison library and spent much of his time watching the movement of guards, memorizing their routine, and planning his break down to the smallest detail. He somehow had a key that got to him out of the maximum-security wing. The rope ladder was made from knotted sheets and was tied down at the top with supports that could sustain his weight. He likely had help inside. On the big day, he presented at the afternoon headcount. He then took advantage of staffing shortages that left the security cameras on the walls completely unmonitored, officials say. So, while the cameras caught the escape, providing this footage, it wasn’t seen until after it was too late. Once in the prison courtyard, he climbed a perimeter fence and likely had someone meeting outside to whisk him away. He had a two-hour head start before guards realized he was gone.There are calls for immediate fixes at Italy’s prisons. The guards’ union says prison staff across Italy has been reduced by several thousands, including removing sentries from prison walls. Not long after, bricks of coke washed ashore and police found their capsized boat, stuffed with more bricks. That humiliating caper, that seemed to have the very same idea as the mysterious island. Police estimated it was enough coke to supply all of Australia for a year. We know Allan Meehan is an outlaw because it’s tattooed on his neck. He’s the confident, swaggering leader of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club, which has a prodigious presence on the country’s streets. The Aussie underworld has been whispering that Meehan is under threat from rivals, with a heavy price on his head. His own lawyer said Meehan relocated with his family to a new state because of warnings of an underworld bounty. His lawyer said police told Meehan there was a $3 million hit out for him. Police disputed that price tag but not the underlying fact.The pricey residential suburb of Benowa Waters, where he was arrested on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast, features pleasant family homes and waterfront mansions. Perhaps most importantly for him, it’s a nine-hour drive away from Sydney, where most of Australia’s fiercest gangland friction happens, and where his face is instantly recognized.For police, though, his new home’s notable feature is it is in another state, in Queensland, north of his registered address in New South Wales.Back in his home state, he is under a Serious Crime Prevention Order issued against him in November. An SCPO, as they’re called, is like being released on strict bail conditions without having first faced a criminal charge. The probe was sparked by the arrest last year of two other alleged LockBite affiliates in Kyiv, Ukraine. That helped bring police to a bedroom community north of Toronto to search the home of an alleged colleague. They arrested Mikhail Vasiliev, 33, a dual national of Russia and Canada. They seized documents allegedly linked to LockBit, a Bitcoin wallet allegedly linked to a recent ransom, and two guns. He was arrested for the guns and released on bail while the U.S. Department of Justice got its paperwork in order for its arrest warrant and extradition request. He was then re-arrested and remains in custody pending a court hearing. But that was not the only weird thing about the policing on this file. He was named as one of the big fish in the FBI’s Operation Trojan Shield. Ngakuru was arrested in Thailand on Oct. 19, 2022. Thai authorities described him as an important member of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club, a powerful biker club started in Australia. He is named in a U.S. indictment as one of 14 alleged distributors of AN0M services to underworld figures. Airport staff were on hand to help the man who declared he was unable to walk, navigate the crowded airport, filled with a crush of passengers returning from summer holidays. It looked an unlikely scene to arouse suspicion, but a clever sniffer dog named Crai wasn’t fooled. Crai is a detector dog with the Guardia di Finanza, one of Italy’s federal police agency. More than 200 people were arrested in Cosenza, in Calabria, the toe of the boot-shaped map of Italy. Among them are mobsters, politicians, businessmen and government officials. Revelations of alleged corruption have been spilling out of a veteran mobster, who has been cooperating with prosecutors for eight years. Three government officials were suspended from duty and placed under house arrest pending further investigation: Marcello Manna, the Mayor of Rende, a town in Cosenza province that is home to the University of Calabria, as well as one his town councillors; Pino Munno, who oversees the town’s public works; and in neighboring Cosenza, the capital of the province of the same name, one of the city’s executive officers was accused, Francesco De Cicco, who is in charge of municipal maintenance.It’s no longer shocking in Calabria to have city officials hit by Mafia allegations. He’s surrounded by friends. Allan Meehan, the national president of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club has his arm spread around him. His president tagged the photo “Welcome back Tarek” and dubbed him “Hard2Kill”. One week later, he flew back to his hometown of Sydney from Melbourne for a wedding. As Zahed traveled down a busy road Sunday afternoon in a black BMW hatchback, tactical police moved in and aggressively arrested him. Hard2Kill is the kind of name that sticks in gangland.
