Medicate Me || Editor Society QQ Challenge

Metallic Lieutenant 2025-06-11 | I wanted to make this so much longer but I have made the mistake of taking on waaaay to many MEP parts this month (most of them being FX/Candy style) so I needed to cut this short bc I was using it as a procrastination device lmaoo

But-

The Editor Society hosts challenges every three months, and this challenge's theme was 'If I was in a MEP' where we got to pick a MEP and make an edit as if we were in that MEP, and we had to use the theme as well.

I had a lot of fun with this! If I had had more time I would have made this longer and fixed up some of my scene selection a bit more and added some more overlays etc etc I had a whole two other segments with scene selection ready to go but decided to just focus my efforts on the first two to save time. It didn't quite come out the way I envisioned it, but I am still happy with it.

I used Davinci Resolve for this entire edit and I think that was part of what made it so fun for me, I love novelty and Davinci is a new toy to me as I am slowly learning how to use it for work haha

This is just a small Chloe character study edit. I've never really liked it when people say Chloe is a terrible person. I feel that opinion of her really lacks the nuance her character deserves. I think it's a rather close-minded opinion that doesn't factor anything she went through into play.

Here's an actual full video for once, I can't remember the last time I actually finished a full video- I'm so glad I could finish one for once
I've had this video unfinished in my files for almost 2 years now, and every few months I would open it, add 2 clips and then forget about it for months again... I was feeling down today and remembered I had this still sitting here, and thought it might be nice to edit something again to get it all out and I managed to finish the edit in a few hours. I feel a bit better now. Expect more vent-type edits for a little while, sorry if that's annoying.

I didn't want to add too many effects or overlays bc I felt they were taking away from the scene selection.

Also, I hate text, hate hate hate hate hate it, I can never figure out good placement for it or how to make it look good :(

Metallic Lieutenant 2025-05-09 | Uhh so- kind of a vent edit I guess? Idk, this is just a really low effort edit that I've been using as an outlet for the past few days.

I'm extremely stressed atm but I could't tell you why even if I wanted to- Probably half of the problem is the fact that I literally cannot sleep, so it might be making my stress worse. I just feel too stressed to do much of anything atm, so I made this as a way to still feel like I was doing something and because I've been wanting to edit with a really edgy song for ages now and this is scratching that itch.

I feel done with this now even though there's no transitions or overlays. I'll probably regret it in a week though when I look back at it lmao
Tried to add some storytelling, but tbh it's kind of just vibes

Metallic Lieutenant 2025-04-25 | Okayyy so it's been almost 6 months since I last posted a MEP collection video- that's kinda crazy. I said I wouldn't take as many MEP parts for a while, which was good for me I think, but it also means I get to be in less MEPs, which makes me sad :((

I don't feel very strongly about this collection, I feel this is probably my weakest MEP collection to date in terms of good editing. I really only like the first 5 parts and the rest I don't really like at all. I hope that for my next MEP collection I can take on some more FX parts as well, I've been really wanting to improve my FX editing lately

On the bright side, I think my scene selection is improving a ton and I'm very happy about that!!

Editing Theme:
Like the sign-up video - Purple, dreamy space scenes and VHS effects. I want this MEP to look raw, but have small little effects like stars and planets, blur transitions, slow pans etc, as well as some masking with galaxies and space scenes behind the characters in some shots.

PLEASE NOTE:
your part will require at least some masking/rotoscoping and maybe some compositing, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, then maybe sit this one out.
But please feel free to join if you think you can do it! I wanted to make this MEP a bit of a challenge to everyone to expand their confidence and skills! Don't worry if you think it'll be bad, take this as a challenge if you're willing to try! I can help you find tutorials on the things you want to do if you need help x

I started this I think just after Christmas when I was having a bit of a down week. I decided that it might be nice to channel that into some kind of melodramatic edit, and I thought back to my edgy/emo days when I used to listen to Paramore a lot. Whenever I think of Paramore, I think of twilight, so, this just seemed like good match.
As bad of a story as twilight is, I fucking love it so much. It's my guilty pleasure, I often re-read the books or re-watch the movies as they hold so much nostalgia for me.

I decided to go with the route of showcasing how 'stupid' Bella is for this edit to fit with the song and how she continually makes bad and unhealthy decisions, even when she knows they are bad, and how she spirals down further and further into her obsession with Edward until it nearly kills her.

The spark and motivation for this project is gone now and I don't feel excited about it anymore but I am fairly happy with it how it is. I used this mainly as scene selection practice.

I think at this point I have more scraps than finished edits on this channel lmaooo

This one was edited entirely in Davinci Resolve. I wanted to challenge myself again to start using Davinci more. I was originally going to add more effects to this after I finished putting all the clips out, but I never got that far unfortunately.

Okay so I've been in a weird place editing wise the past few months and have been struggling to edit anything at all. I realized it was coming from a place of perfectionism and I was constantly worrying about wanting everything I make to be the best it can. I constantly felt bad about my edits like- "I know I can edit so much better than this, why are all my videos so bad"

So to get over that, I decided to start this project as a way to just edit. Just make something, if its bad, it's bad. So this was what I made. It's not perfect by any means, the scene selection could be better, the text could be more interesting, but I finally was able to make something.

I think forcing myself to just start a project and get it done (to a certain degree anyway, there was probably a lot more I could have done to this video) is a good step to moving past my constant worrying from the past few months.

I might make another project like this sometime down the line again. I want to spend next year trying to improve my editing even more, so I may do this again just to get myself out of a rut if I do fall back into negative thinking.

2nd davinci edit

Metallic Lieutenant 2024-08-18 | Okay so here's my 2nd davinci edit. I'm getting a little more comfortable with the program now, however I am still struggling with effects T-T

I can't figure out how to copy and paste effects and keyframes properly and I don't have the patience to keep making the same flash and blur animations over and over so I gave up on that in this edit lmao
For some reason whenever I try to copy and paste an effect from one clip to another the keyframes don't translate over? Or maybe I just can't find them? Idk but it just does not show up for me. I need to do some more research, but I am struggling to find a tutorial on how to paste effects over. Pasting the basic ones like zooms and stuff work but not effects?? T-T
I think I'm going to take a break from davinci for a few days and come back again later~

first time using davinci resolve

Metallic Lieutenant 2024-08-17 | So I'm trying to learn how to use davinci resolve so it's easier for me to freelance (I'm a video editor professionally as well-), I thought it might help me to know more than just premiere and AE.
This program is so confusing. Coming from AE with a layer-based system and having to use a node-based system is so confusing for my brain, I struggled to figure out how to make these basic flash and fade transitions. I definitely need more time with it.

This is just a test edit where I tested myself to make a multi-cut edit with some basic effects, an overlay and a voiceover so that I know the basics of audio mixing, how to use overlays and how to add effects.

After today I actually hate Fusion though /hj
Idk it just made me so frustrated T-T I miss AE, I need more practice and hopefully I will grow to like it.

I Run To You || Full MEP

Metallic Lieutenant 2024-08-10 | Here's the full MEP for I Run To You! It turned out so nice!!!

The theme of this MEP was 'Trust - in all it's forms'. It was about showcasing trust between characters, or characters learning how to trust others after not trusting anyone. Whether it was the trust of a child to a parent or protector, the trust of two friends or siblings, or even characters who had to learn to trust someone, participants were asked to showcase that in their parts.

I think everyone did a really nice job showcasing their chosen characters!! Everyone did an amazing job with their scene selection and I think the whole thing looks amazing! This MEP was the smoothest MEP I've hosted to date and I am honestly so grateful to all you guys, it's so much fun creating these MEPs with you guys! It's such a joy to work with you guys.

Metallic Lieutenant 2024-01-07 | Here it is!! I absolutely adore the way this MEP turned out!! Everyone did an amazing job! Thanks again to everyone who took part!!

The theme of this MEP was a little complicated but everyone executed it so well!!
There were two parts to the theme:
1) Participants were asked to pick a character who had suffered some form of abuse in their lives for this MEP.

2)
Participants were asked to use one of three elements to represent the emotional state of their character.

Water to represent moving on, acceptance, washing away of the past, trying to move on and live their lives after moving on from the past abuse.

Fire to represent anger, and ferocity of the trauma, their fight against it and their abuser as well as its direct effects on the character.

Stormy clouds to transition between the two to represent flashbacks of the trauma and how they are trying to cope.

The goal was to use to elements to represent the character's internal emotional state.

Metallic Lieutenant 2023-09-17 | Take this super raw scrapped edit. I had a random urge to edit with anime again recently so I decided to edit with my favorite anime for some fun! I scrapped it though as it wasn't quite coming out the way I would have liked, plus I ran out of usable scenes so the ending is really anti climactic T_T I'm surprised I got almost a whole minute out of using Obi though! All in all this probably took me 4-5 hours so It's not a crazy good edit xD But I had fun making it~

This will probably be my last chance to edit for a while as I tomorrow I begin the last trimester of my bachelor's degree, so I won't really have time to do any editing for fun for at least three months unfortunately :( So I took the chance to get some of my urge to edit out while I still can haha

The first one is probably the only part I'm proud of in this collection and even that one could have been better if I had had more time.

Notes:
The theme for this MEP was so much fun, I live for theme heavy MEPs and getting to do a psychedelic theme got me to try out all sorts of things I've never done before! I challenged myself by trying to make this 90% FX rather than using just footage so there was a lot of masking. My poor hand T-T

Notes: The theme for this MEP was really unique and I had fun trying to recreate the effects the host wanted, however using twilight was probably a terrible idea as I barely had any scenes to choose from, making the flow not so great.

Ik the voiceovers/sound effects aren't great, I didn't want to bother polishing them up, this was just something I did to relax myself and have a bit of fun. Life has been so hectic and busy lately I just needed some time to edit something for myself

Some of these projects were too ambitious for me and my ideas were bigger than my skills which lead to me getting burned out with them.

Notes: I wanted to try incorporating some old 2012 gmv and amv editing styles into a newer editing style and see what I could with with it!

0:11 - Mass Effect FX style edit
Notes: I was so proud of the first few seconds of this edit, but then I kind of lost the vision of what I wanted it to be and it all kind of fell apart and I lost motivation to continue it. It really just started out as me wanting to try doing more anime style FX editing with game footage to see how much work it would be for MEP parts in the future.

Notes: This was going to be a project where I attempted to use what I had learned in my title sequence class in uni, worked out, I used a lot of photoshop, did a lot of pre-vis, but when it came to making each composition, all the masking and animation I had planned, it got so burned out and decided to take a break.

Notes: Once again wanted to try out some more FX stuff, particularly with a space aesthetic, but this time I quickly ran out of ideas and put it on the back burner

Notes: I wanted to try out some effects from newer GMV editing styles and try and see what I could do with it. Once again lost inspiration and ideas for this one

0:53 - Mass Effect Raw Edit
Notes: I think I was just really bored one day and wanted to edit with Kaidan, and as it usually goes it then turns into the shipping edit bc- ... reasons. This one was so close to being finished, but I ran out of usable clips to keep the flow going so I scrapped it. All this one really needs is some more effects and things to keep the flow going better and it might have been finished.

Notes: Not much to say about this one, I don't really even know what kind of story I wanted to tell, I think I was just bored and wanted to edit with Aerith and Tifa... Ended up scrapping it due to me not liking how the story for the edit panned out.

But anyway, I'm now on holidays so now I have the fun job of catching up on all my online life work now like finishing up unfinished parts and organizing stuff for my other channel. I honestly am considering going on hiatus bc I lowkey need a break from everything but we'll see how it goes for now

At least this time my footage use is much more varied! I decided to try and use something other than Mass Effect for a lot of my mep parts this time around, wanted to get more variation as I was getting a little bored using the same clips over and over!

I don't know why but i hate all the color grades I did for these parts too, there's just something about them that doesn't work

Fading History || Tuts AEP Editing Challenge

Metallic Lieutenant 2023-02-24 | "You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it."

Here's my submission for the editing challenge I'm hosting over in the Tuts AEP discord server! The prompts this time around were: Empty, Devoid and Uncanny. I tried incorporating all these prompts into my edit but it was so hard!! For the 'uncanny' part I tried adding a lot of the humanoid aliens and the giant human reaper, but I'm not sure if it worked so well haha.

I wasn't going to participate this time because uni was going to start up soon when I started, but I found this slowed down version of the galaxy map theme from mass effect and I just fell in love with it and knew I had to use it for this challenge! This is super rough and if I had had more time I definitely would have fixed up a lot of the weird stuff, like the blue tinted Shepard scenes, I just wanted to make them a little blue but I didn't have to the time to go back and fix up the skintones so- you get frozen corpse Shepard ^^ I think If I had had more time it would have turned out so much nicer

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it despite some of the jankyness! (and render errors T-T) I might fix some of it another time and reupload it

I like it so much I don't want to leave it to rot on my PC, but not so much that I plan on finishing it... so here it is. It doesn't have an ending buuuuttt.... I hope the 'plot' is understandable enough without me going on a long winded spiel about it like I usually do on my edits haha. All i'll say is that everything in the 8mm overlay is a fantasy/her daydreams

This was actually going to be my entry for the Editor Society AMV competition but I didn't feel I cound finish it my the deadline so I just submitted something else I had already made.

I highkey hate the coloring I did on this though- Like what even is it?? Idk man but it ain't it that's for sure.

(P.s I edit this anime so much and have watched it twice but cannot for the life of me remember any of the characters names-)

I may or may not have a new obsession with Batman in which I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to figure out which comics to start reading first- Getting into batman is scary man, there are way too many different versions of Bruce I don't even know where to begin lol

Anyway, I have a new obsession with Catwoman so it's more than likely you will see a lot more telltale Batman edits on my channel for a few months until my obsession dies down lol

This edit was just something I started on impulse, I had been wanting to edit with this song for forever but never got around to it until now (I love this song sm). I wanted to use this edit to practice my typography but as you can see I gave up on that really quick because I ran out of ideas for interesting typo... buuuut anyway, enjoy!~

Metallic Lieutenant 2023-01-13 | Okayyy so I had this whole huge ass idea for this GMV, but I've kinda fallen out of motivation for finishing it.
It was gonna basically be about how Kaidan doesn't want to disrupt the chain of command so he buries his feelings and Shepard begins to realize that due to her developing feeling for Kaidan, she has lost the ability to think objectively about her crew, putting missions in danger to save Kaidan, or all round just worrying about him more than other members of the crew.

BUt uhhhhh yeah, I began overthinking a lot about this edit and ended up not having fun whenever I opened the project file, and ended up forgetting about it for a good while, and now here we are. Another scap on the pile haha

Have another scrap. This one is pretty much done (except it's janky af), but I hate the way the story flows in this one and to make it work I'd need to change out a lot of scenes, which I don't have time for atm so I decided to just scrap it :(

I really do love this song with Mass Effect though and I think if I had had more time this would have turned into an amazing edit. I had this song stuck in my head again the past week and remembered I had this edit sitting there, almost finished and that was then I realized that half of it flows pretty terribly T-T.

Notes: PVRIS AGAIN! That's literally the only reason I joined this MEP xD I've already editing to this song before, but the theme was super nice and I had a lot of fun trying to make it fit the theme! We were told to use both blue and occasionally splashes of color like in the song to show the 'burning' as well and I really enjoyed trying to balance it out.
It was also fun trying to put in scenes that showed something symbolic of their relationship, it's been forever since I watched Killing Eve so I had to go back and look through all the episodes to find them, but looking back some of the shots really don't flow that well, so I'll have to work on that next time!

The theme for the challenge was to use the three words 'Ethereal, Haze, Love ' as inspiration for your edit and this was what I came up with!~ I actually kinda struggled with these prompts, but eventually found this song and the rest just fell into place.

This was another excuse for me to practice my scene selection, and I think it turned out nicely! I hope I'm improving. I did run out of usable footage at the end there though so that sucked T-T

Danger to Myself Scrap

This one I was planning on fully decking it out with motion graphics and transitions and shit but I ran out of ideas so fast- This one I also tried to focus on not only transitions, but relational transitions between footage. So I purposefully chose a lot of these scenes because they related to one another e.g going from Mafia to Final Fantasy 7 using the flames, then using the witcher 3 after becuase it also had flames, then moving back to mafia to fit the romantic scene I had using the Witcher. Idk of that makes any sense, but I was trying something new.

I'd always been planning on coming back to it but I don't think I ever will. I have 1 million other unfinished projects that I might upload later on.

I thought this song fit Kaidan and Shepard really well.

I've had this half finished on my computer for months now, ever since I finished Mass Effect in like January- Today I decided to open it up and get it done but I kinda gave up on it! This is just another basic scene selection practice edit so I didn't do anything too fancy. Also the flow in completely off but I'm beyond the point of trying to fix it now xD I also practiced more with voice overs. I hope I am improving at something.

However I am extremely happy with myself for breaking past the 30 second mark and making it all the way to 1:20. I was going to make it go for longer but I found myself running out of useful clips so I decided to end it early instead of just adding the scaps of what I had left. This is probably the longest video I've made in 5+ years.

Mass Effect holds such a special place in my heart. I hope I can edit it more often. I also plan to do a Liara romance route next so look forward to me going back to my wlw edit roots.

This was inspired my ESS's hallucinate MEP quite a bit

I'm also uploading as a test to see if the youtube algorithm has dropped me or not as a lot of my edits were being recommended alongside some disgusting videos.
