Mike Dailly | ZX Spectrum Next Wolfenstein 3D Demo @MikeDailly | Uploaded January 2020 | Updated October 2024, 18 hours ago.
Using my Ray casting engine, Jim Bagley and I have put together a demo of Level 1 of Wolfenstein. Not quite there yet, but you can see it coming together nicely. Still some optimisation to do in the engine - along with doors of some sort, and still lots of game things to do.
But feels nice and quick. Not really intending on doing a Wolfie port - but feels nice seeing it run.
Recorded directly off the actual ZX Spectrum Next hardware.
Technical...
28Mhz mode (probably closer to 23/24Mhz just now)
256x192 Layer 2 mode
16 textures or 64x64 (64K)
about 130 compressed sprites taking up around 250k
over 300K of custom auto generated Z80 code for rendering
