I suppose the reason to run three routes at once would be so the blue stars are always there when I get to them, not counting the two near the start. Or another reason would be for a little extra challenge keeping track of where I'm going. :S
I'm also trying to eat a lot since I'm leveling pets, plus I aimed for the stashes of gold bars. This time I concentrated about equally on eating, gold bars and blue stars.
If there are other slimes around I completely abandon my route. I just try to go where they are not, lol.
I would guess this is the last Slime Party video I will make anytime soon. Then again I wasn't planning on making this video, so who knows. If I ever make it to level 5, it'll be a while before then.

The developer let me know the game was updated so here we go again. :)
The biggest change I see is that there are three modes now.
Tutorial - short informative tutorial at the start, no monsters
Easy - no monsters
Hard - with waves of monsters
The monsters are so easy to beat though, just hit a button when youre near them, and eating the monsters provides major growth. I am almost sure Hard would be the fastest mode to play through.
In any case, I still think this game is pretty awesome. :D")
