Yeah, the Evil Ring kills you unless you equip the Blue Charm and then you can open the evil doors. That is that.
The narrow corridor where I used the Mirror (freezes enemies) can be done normally but you have to take a lot of damage from the scorpions as you cannot side attack them. On higher difficulties, you pretty much NEED to use the Mirror OR wait for them to travel up the corridor and then slash them there.
