Most supply chains don’t collapse gradually. They fail at a single weak point.
That weak point usually isn’t visible in your dashboard.
Jonathan Doller, Senior Solution Consultant at Logility, works at the intersection of AI, demand planning, constrained inventory allocation, and operational resilience. In this discussion, we examine where AI genuinely strengthens supply chain decision-making, and where it simply papers over structural fragility.
Resilience plans look solid in workshops. They often break under port closures, tariff volatility, constrained supply, and shifting demand patterns. Add climate risk, regulatory pressure, and rising capital costs, and the margin for error narrows quickly. AI is now embedded across forecasting, allocation, supplier risk screening, and scenario planning, but adoption without structural clarity creates new risks.
What changed my thinking in this conversation:
• The distinction between correlation and causation in demand planning. A company removed a promotional discount after AI revealed demand was seasonal, not price-driven, margin improved immediately.
• Constrained inventory allocation as a competitive lever. Allocation decisions during scarcity define market winners.
• The “single point of failure” analogy - supply chains often have a critical dependency with zero redundancy. Most leadership teams can’t clearly identify it.
This discussion is for procurement leaders, supply chain executives, risk managers, and operations decision-makers operating under cost, regulatory, and disruption pressure.
If you’re dealing with these decisions in real time, I’d like to hear how you’re approaching them.
