The Houston Chronicle just published a five-part investigative series on Empower Pharmacy, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the country, and it is one of the most important pieces of pharmaceutical journalism in recent years. All five parts were written by investigative reporter Julian Gill.
In this video I break down all five parts of "A Dose of Disruption," covering everything from the origin story of founder Shaun Noorian, to Empower's explosive growth during the GLP-1 compounding boom, to four FDA warning letters over the last decade, documented contamination findings including a semaglutide batch released with no recall despite bacterial growth in the clean room, serious adverse event reports, former executive allegations about the use of inferior ingredients, state probation in California, and the political relationships that may be shielding this industry from meaningful accountability.
I also discuss the SAFE Drugs Act of 2025, a bipartisan bill from two Indiana lawmakers, and why the Eli Lilly connection to that bill deserves scrutiny.
