Two weeks ago the crew said that if you already own firearms, getting a CCW is a way around California's new Firearm Safety Certificate class. The comments filled up with people from harder counties saying a CCW runs them $1,500, so why bother.
Dakota takes that seriously and clarifies what the advice was actually for. She also owns the part worth owning: San Diego is easy, roughly $700 to $800 and a quick process, and it is fair to say that sounds tone-deaf from a county where it is out of reach. It should not cost anything. It is a right. Nobody here is making fun of you for not being able to afford one.
Michael has less patience. If a CCW costs you $1,500 and an FSC costs $25, then the recommendation was obviously not aimed at you, and you did not need it spelled out. His question for anyone typing that complaint: which local organization have you joined, how many letters have you written your sheriff, how many board of supervisors campaigns have you worked? San Diego County had 1,100 CCW holders in 2015. It has over 30,000 now. Same state, same laws. That was fought for, and it was not fought for in a comments section.
Then the second clarification, and this one the crew concedes is a fair catch. Somebody on the show said an FSC basically gives you the right to purchase a gun. It does not. There is no background check attached to it. It confirms you passed the test, and it is one of the documents you need at the counter if you do not have a CCW. It does not make you an eligible person.
