Changes to the new YouTube Metadata editor
youtubecreator.blogspot.com/2012/04/new-upload-page-metadata-editor-for.html

YouTube in this new update has done away with the old claim form we used to Monetize videos. It has been replaced with a simple check box.

Double check your default ad settings here, to make sure your videos are earning what they should.

Also make sure that your Youtube account is associated with AdSense or else you won't be paid. support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=72866#US
You are only allowed one AdSense account per the Terms of Service. If you have multiple YouTube accounts they can all be linked to the same AdSense account.

It is very important that you have a detailed description explaining why you have the rights to your video. Especially if your video contains things like music, clips from other videos, or video game play.

Avoid using AudioSwap. Doing so will prevent you from monetizing your videos and may result in 3rd party ads being placed on your videos with the ad revenue going to the music publisher, not you.

It is very difficult to monetize video game videos. Your best bet is to get permission from the video game publisher to "commercially use their content in your videos." Once you get this permission post who gave you that permission with a link to a screen shot of the email in your video description.

Videos of you simply playing the game are almost always denied monetization. So be sure that your video has enough commentary from you to qualify for fair use.

For those of you in Networks, many of your Networks have already secured the licenses to do video game videos. Check with your Network representative to find out which games you can use for your videos and under what conditions.

If you use clips from someone else in your videos, your best bet is to always get permission to commercially use their content. Then post a link to a screen shot of that permission in your video description.

While getting permission to use someone else's content is always best, it is not always possible to do so. The fair use clause of the copyright act does allow for limited use of another's content even without their consent for the purpose of commentary, criticism, and or parody.

Furthermore, commercial use does not invalidate fair use. Cambell v Acuff-Rose Music Supreme Court http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/92-1292.ZS.html

A good video description would be along the lines of this.

"I own the copyright and world wide distribution rights to this video. This video contains a few clips from HappyCabbie's video (insert URL) and such use is protected by the fair use clause of the 1976 copyright act which does allow for limited use of another's content for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and or parody. Furthermore in the Supreme Court case Cambell vs Acuff Music the Supreme Court found that commercial use does not invalidate fair use. I have a good faith belief that the content in this video does not violate the copyrights of HappyCabbie or anyone else."

Regarding song covers. You must have permission from the record label to commercially use their song for your video. The lyrics of the song are copyrighted so get permission and document it in the video description.
