You told me to buy a real bike… so I finally did! After four years of riding, modifying and building some seriously fast electric bikes, I’ve bought my first petrol-powered motorbike: a Husqvarna TE125 two-stroke supermoto.
My journey on two wheels began with the Sur-Ron Light Bee. As my confidence grew, I wanted something bigger, faster and more challenging, which eventually led me to the Sur-Ron Ultra Bee.
Since then, I’ve spent thousands of pounds modifying my electric bikes, converting them into supermoto builds, registering them for the road and paying for the correct insurance—all because I’ve always wanted to enjoy these bikes legally.
But throughout that entire journey, one comment has appeared on my YouTube channel more than almost any other:
“Why don’t you just buy a real motorbike?”
Well… I listened!
In this video, I introduce the latest bike joining the Southcoast Surron channel: my 2016 Husqvarna TE125. It’s a 125cc two-stroke petrol motorbike—and it’s completely different from anything I’ve featured on the channel before.
I explain why I chose the Husqvarna TE125, what attracted me to petrol-powered motorbikes and why I want to find out whether a traditional combustion bike can genuinely offer a better riding experience than an electric bike.
Is petrol better than electric? Does the sound, range and mechanical feel make up for the maintenance, fuel costs and lack of instant electric torque?
This video is only the beginning. Over the next few videos, I’ll be putting the Husqvarna TE125 to the test and comparing it with my modified Sur-Ron electric bikes. We’ll look at speed, acceleration, range, running costs, maintenance, reliability and—most importantly—which one is actually more fun to ride.
